Sata confident new Justice Ministry team will deliver

President Michael Sata

PRESIDENT Michael Sata has expressed confidence that the team he has constituted to run the Justice Ministry is formidable enough to ensure an effective justice delivery system in Zambia.

Speaking shortly after swearing in former Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president Musa Mwenye as new Solicitor General at State House in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Sata said the combination of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito, Mr Mwenye and Attorney General Mumba Malila was the best team for Zambia.

The president said it was clear that colossal sums of money obtained corruptly was still held by some people.

He said the office of the DPP, Attorney General, Solicitor General and the minister of Justice must combat corruption and other vices with determination.

Mr Sata asked Justice Minister Sebastian Zulu and acting Secretary to the Cabinet Evans Chibiliti to make Mr Nchito available to take oath for them to start work as quickly as possible.

He said the justice system in the country had collapsed.

“This is the first time we are having a very strong team at the Ministry of Justice.

“As you start work, look at the conditions of the legal aid system because poor people don’t know what legal representation is,” Mr Sata said.

He said having stayed in prison for 40 days, he learnt that the country had massive challenges including lack of an effective legal aid system to benefit poor people.

Mr Zulu said Mr Nchito was out of the country.

Mrs Mwaba Kasese Bota was sworn in as Zambian permanent representative to the United Nations while former Works and Supply Permanent Secretary lieutenant-colonel Bizwayo Nkunika was sworn in as Zambia High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Former Siavonga MP Fredrick Hapunda was sworn in as Zambian ambassador to Russia.

Others sworn in were Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chabota Nkunika and Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Charles Kapembwa while former United Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president, Francis Simenda was sworn in as Zambian ambassador to Ethiopia.

The rest are Mr Ng’ona Mwelwa Chibesakunda (Japan), former deputy secretary to the Cabinet Robert Mataka (Botswana) Muyoba Chikonde (South Africa) and Wendy Sinkala (Namibia).

And Mr Sata said some countries had lost confidence in Zambia because former representatives such as Dr Nevers Mumba who returned from Canada recently left some activities that dented the image of Zambia.

The new Government struggled to receive clearance to send new representatives.

  1. When is Ala Bee going to spend 40 days your excellency? Twanaka ukulolela.

Dora needs to do sometime as well!

  2. finally…(mutembo, malila, mwenye)=plunderers nightmare. red lips kunda you are in trouble.we want our NCC monies..

  3. Mediocre! – The same old politicians are being recycled. Is Zambia short of leaders. All these young and vibrant graduates; when are you going to afford them an opportunity to serve their country? We don`t want the same old faces that have failed us in the last forty years, to continue representing us. Get some folks from UNZA, CBU, Evelyn Hone College, or Zambians in diaspora to serve in missions abroad.

  4. Mr President why are you recycling old people? These Nkunikas etc have passed their sell by date! The reason why it was difficult to have new accreditations in these countries is not because of Nevers Mumba ba President please. Mwilalanda ubufi! These countries were upset because you broke protocol by announcing names before they had been cleared by the receiving country. In diplomacy, you don’t publicly say ‘so and so is going to Russia’ before Russia has accepted that person. It is not Nevers who dented the image of Zambia but your uncouth methods Sir. Hope you learn.

  5. HE Sata had directed Kanganja to get CLEARANCE from the law investigating wings and work history about Dr Simon Miti and his appointment was revoked henceforth. It’s now over two months and as a person from Police, I can confirm that Kanganja has since handed over the report in which Dr Miti has been CLEARED. WHY is it taking so long to reappoint him as Ambassador to Swaziland. Somebody told me it’s coz he is from Eastern province and the revocation was meant to embarrass him and Eastern province.

Look the man has gone thru the due process of the law and deserve to be reappointed as a Diplomat. He has never been charged, arrested or prosecuted before, and has been a very KEY state witness prosecuting Kapoko and others. Let as follow the law and reappoint Dr Miti.

  6. I know Dr Miti. He is a smart , intelligent professional and can not be compared to some of the people Sata has appointed, the likes of Mpombo, Kasese Bota etc. If he has been Cleared I am sure Sata will reappoint him soon.

  7. I know Dr Miti from Ndola and board of central health. He is very fit to be a Diplomat. I knew he would be proved innocent. He has now been cleared and let Sata appoint him. Bravo Ambassador Miti.

  8. Dr Mwaba ps health has already given letters to other workers who were cleared together with Dr Miti and they have already started working. I am sure Sata will reappoint Miti as Ambassador.

  9. #1 Italian Bunga Bunga (Original),

Can you please clarify (because you seem to understand better this MORON Chimpanzee Foreign Minister Kambwili) who said the PF government has not appointed any party cadre to foreign missions!

This Wendy Sinkala sent to Namibia is a PF/MMD political cadre who is tented with political dirty in the MMD and was a friend to Sata (as they were together in the MMD)

This inconsistency makes it very difficult to believe what Sata and his relative Kambwili are saying to us Zambians!

For goodness sake! This evil Sata and his PF inconsistency government brings MMD cadres from foreign missions and send his friend and prostitute Wendy Sinkala at our expense!

    Zambians are intelligent!

  10. Shame to you # 5!!!!!!!! Since when did you the likes of Liato, Konga, Kunda, Nevers belonging to Eastern province????????? You are drunk with hate, see yourself as a zambian and not easterner, northener, and all the rubbish you want to feed the readership with.

  11. Zambia army commander, minister of justice, minister of mines and may others are not Bembas. Are they? Be fare in your criticism, not everyone from each tribe will be appointed. You tell us that you are very, very educated and appointments should be based on ones qualifications and abilities and this is what President Sata is doing. What more do you expect from him. Empty criticisms are baseless. In this era we don’t talk of tribes, as tribes died along time with Shaka Zulu.

  12. Literally a man’s world…gender biased .The times when these guys to challenge the past regimes’ questionable activities,over-reaching R.B,scrapping of clauses, mistreatment of journalists highlighting plights facing citizens etc..We never heard of them, the bright minds! What a shame and a let down.

  13. The times when we needed these guys to challenge the past regime’s questionable activities,
over-reaching R.B and cronies/sons,scrapping abuse of office clause, mistreatment of journalists highlighting the plights facing citizens just to mention a few..they went mute.
