Soccer fans in Solwezi have called on government to allow the AFCON cup trophy to be taken round to all provincial centres to accord the people chance to physically see it.

Some supporters talked to by ZANIS said it was a life time experience to have a prestigious trophy in the history of Zambian football and would want to experience real feel of it.

Zambia won the 2012 Orange Africa cup of nation’s tournament after beating Ivory Coast by 8-7 on penalty shoot out.

Meanwhile, two people died on the spot in Northwestern Province in separate accidents during celebrations after Zambia’s victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament on Sunday night.

Provincial Commissioner of Police Eugene Sibote confirmed the deaths to ZANIS in Solwezi yesterday.

Mr. Sibote said the duo met their fate in jubilations that took place in the province after mid night when the Chipolopolo boys scored their winning goal against Ivory Coast in Libreville in Gabon.

He said the accidents happened in Mwinilunga and Mufumbwe districts.

Mr. Sibote explained that in Mwinilunga, a 26 year old male nurse at Mwinilunga General Hospital identified as Maambo Hamabo died after being hit by a Toyota Land Cruiser as he was riding from the place he was suspected to have been watching the game from.

He said a 19 year old grade 11 pupil at Chizela high school in Mufumbwe was killed by a hit and run vehicle.

  1. #1 what do you mean UKO? This is a first for Zambia and the people in Solwezi are right and have a legit point. If you could take a dead body to all the provinces with the logistical nightmares involved, why not a simple gold ornamental?

     I second the call.

    • Iwe there is a time for everything, poverty can wait at this time. just because you are poor it does not mean you cannot party. Let everyone see it we have waited too long for this for us to care about money

  2. Yes, thats good idea that all the people of Zambia can have access to see the trophy. Mind you it might not be in the country next year. Only the captain and FAZ may accompany the trophy.. so easy take it round the country :)

    • That’s a good one, some Zambians just react wisely as usual ! Just wonder why others cannot follow that  humble MUCHINGA example or mannerism

  3. A real soccer fan would have travelled to Lusaka to meet the team and cup on arrival at the airport. I doubt this will go through, but who am I to say???

    • FAZ can make money out of showing the trophy to the zambia if they want to charge. But gvt can afford .. You know the $59,000 given to each players is too big the money. The dead president taken around the country was the most expensive exrcise so far.

    • Good observation ba Mwine. Zambians are spoilt and want to have things on a silver plate. Taking late LPM around the provincial HQs was done in bad faith i.e. for political reasons. This was very stressful especially for the bereaved family and must never happen again. Why was FTJ not taken around the country? The answer is obvious. The cup will be in Lusaka for some time and whoever is a staunch soccer fan will have to make an effort to travel to Lusaka and see the cup. If the cup will go to the provinvcial centres then it will have to go to all districts, constituencies, wards etc because lack of money will be the argument for all that want to see the cup.

  4. am not sure but there z no need to take the trophy to all provinces. only copperbelt is enough. why cause unnecessary confusion – how many parties do u want pa zed.

  5. The way our poor people like extravagance! It true ni ba kamushi..If the leaders listened to such junk, “Father Zambia” will remain poor like always. Like the fake Prophet TB Joshua.. “i see poverty looming in the country. The cup! The cup is stolen; smelted for gold; sold to some guy from Europe; I see the DEC; I see embarracement. Yes i see theft theft theft..”

Imwe baKamushi; what benefit will you get from the cup reaching Shangombo?

  6. useless! you fans. can’t you ask for improvement football clubs in your province if at all you have one. keep quiet if you donot have other things to do.

  7. Great idea. Please make room to invite school teams even from the villages to come to their provincial HQ and just touch that ka AFCON trophy. In that way we maximize our benefits of this memorabble occasion. We will be tapping into the grassroot of our game. Just imagine how motivated little boys and girls all over the country will be. Each will want to be a Katongo, Mayuka, Mweene, Musonda, Sunzu, Kalaba, Sinkala, Kasonde, Mulenga, Felix, and even a Janza or kalusha.

  8. am not sure this is a good idea am afraid they will be more live lives will be lost cos the are not careful.lets continue celebrating from our homes now.

  9. Wait means we keep this trophy forever right if we are defending it next year lol. hahahahahahahaha.

  10. Some of the negativity here is astonishing. This is a splendid idea and should be done for sure. I was expecting that it will be done. The cup should be taken to all provincial capitals! God bless ZAMBIA!

  11. I’m appealing 2government 2ensure people able 2watch znbc across the count
ry. People watch in drinking places eg I’m in lumwana mine area we don’t watch znbc direct

  12. Ba Lumwana its ok u dont evn surport soccer lk grt fqm kansas.& satanists dont surport tht idea i knw u stl want mor blood 4m poor zed whn thy com 2 view.

  13. I agree that the trophy should be taken to all provinces. In fact, even here it was going to be better has it been put at Mulungushi Conference Centre for people to see. It has never happened in this country this is why the security/organiser failed completely at the showgrounds. Many people wished to see Chipolopolo get this prestigeous cup but died with their dreams. Mind you, main sponsors came from mines so please think about it. Die a little financially for all people to rejoice…….

  14. those opposed to the idea greatly undervalue the value of motivation and emotional intelligence! zambia did not win the cup because it was the best team BUT one that had the strongest emotional drive. yes our players were excellent on the pitch but the hostory of Gabon gave us an emotional urge that could not be watered down by the mighty elephants. the boys in rural areas will also want to start believing in themselves after being inspired by the sight of the trophy.

  15. Well some fellas here believe government has a lot of money to waste having heard of the boys are getting $59,000. But they deserve it, they did there best and won a trophy worth $2m.  To do this would be madness because villagers would also want to see it. So let it go, and move on with your lives!

  16. I suppose the many deaths during celebrations are associated with satanic sacrifices which has engulfed the nation since pf won elections. There is just too many deaths in Zambia and this should not be taken lightly. Believers must stand up in prayers to God so that the nation is delivered from these human sacrifices.

  17. I don’t think it is a good idea because some of the provinces they have already separated themselves from Zambia, so why should we take the cup there. People should change the attitude “ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION” but some of you, you practise “ONE TRIBE ONE PROVINCE” IDEOLOGY.
