President Michael Sata today visited Defence Minister Geofrey Mwamba’s wife, Chama, who is admitted to Milpark Hospital in South Africa.

President Sata who was accompanied by Mr. Mwamba, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations George Chillah and other Government officials arrived at Listeria Airport aboard the presidential challenger at 10:45hrs.

After an hours’ visit to Mrs. Mwamba, Mr. Sata left the hospital and departed for Lusaka from Lanseria airport at about 13:00 hours.

And speaking shortly after the visit, President Sata said he had asked a Zambian doctor Dorothy Kasonde to liaise with her South African counterparts to see if Mrs. Mwamba’s medical condition can be treated using facilities in Zambia.

He also asked Dr. Kasonde to liaise with her colleagues to see if Mrs. Mwamba’s medical condition can allow for her to fly, adding that he expected a response by the end of the day.

Mr. Sata says he has left Mr. Mwamba in South Africa to allow him attend to his wife.

President Sata says he was cheered that Mrs. Mwamba was able to talk after doctors briefed him that she was unable to do so in the morning.

The President thanked the South African Government for having facilitated his movements while in that country.

Mrs. Mwamba has been admitted to Milpark Hospital for close to a month.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka t by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Mission in Pretoria Patson Chilemba.

  1. aha! All those beatings are manifesting now.

If she dies GBM must be charged. Lesson to all women, do not stay in abusive marriages. Leave! and get your own life. No amount of money or status is worth sacrificing your life for.

    • In the past, people went to that clinic because they had HIV/AIDS. None of them lived long. May be its because they were politricians.

    • You right, and with that weight there is no way he can perform in bed. 2 seconds his done. Divorce him, get a share of his money and find an able man to give you your needs

  2. Fire GBM so that he can attend to this situation which he created with his own two hands.

How dare Sata flies to South Africa on Zambian money in aide of a wife batterer.

Chama’s family make sure GBM pays for this

  3. CLOSE TO A MONTH IN HOSPITAL! AISH SHE MUST HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY ILL. GOOD JOB MR. PRESIDENT, YOU ARE NOT JUST A BOSS BUT A FRIEND TOO. YOUR LEADERSHIP CAN NOT TAKE YOU HUMANITY AWAY. I ADMIRE YOU. BUT CAN WE KNOW WHAT SHE IS SUFFERING FROM?

    • He is travelling on tax payers’ money. If you are sick or your child or mother, are they going to airlift to Milpark like they do for all these politicians and there wives?

  4. I wish her a quick recovery. She must be in a critical condition for Sata to travel by the challenger in such a fast manner.

  5. Does this sickness really require a presidential visit using a presidential Jet. Are there not more pressing issues to attend to in Zambia.

  6. A number of issues:
    1. Why is she in hospital — was she beaten by GBM
    2. Why was she not treated here?
    3. Who is GBM that a  WHOLE presidential entourage should go see his wife in SA?
    4. Has HEMCS changed his mind about travelling on tax payer’s money?
    5. How will this trip, funded with my money, benefit the common man on the street?

  7. That Chama woman has brought it on herself , why didnt she leave this man? he used to beat her to a pulp probably even damaged essential organs in her body. Mwaona manje. For the love money she decided to stay, no let her go and meet her maker.

  8. so the President flew to S.A just to see GBM’s wife and then Flew back………there’s something fishy about this move

  9. Number 13, you need to understand something before you contribute otherwise you end up looking ignorant and stupid. That’s a presidential jet. Such levels of hatred are childish. Did Mrs Mwamba choose to be sick? You must grow up not hatred on everything.

  10. Just how could he fly to SA just to see this woman and the heard straight back to the airport to fly back to Zambia? Well, I know Ma Namaya Lewanika, Aka’ mother died today and this woman was a freedom fighter but Sata did not even see any need to fly her out of the country but sees the need to visit this self appointed punching bag. More the reasons to secede from this country of fools.

  11. I feel sorry for this women! King cobra has supplied her husband with some venom! The bites were deadly! However, Mr president, do not mix public duties and private duties. In his case you have misused the public funds for your private interests. We the public must claim this money back from you. If it was Tchiluba or Banda you would have screamed so that the whole world can hear! You are hypocrite! Please refund the whole journey!

  12. Presidetial jet, jet fuel, on personal issues. RB visited a sick relative in chipata, it a talk of the day. Now Sata goes south to visit a sick friend its ok. ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke

    • I remember GBM appearing on MOBI TV before the election said something to the effect that he (GBM) was a relative to Sata by marriage.so chama must actually be Sata’s relative, except I dont know exactly how.

  13. hmm, it does sound a bit suspicious. Sata specifically flew to SA just to see Mwamba’s wife Chama??? This doesn’t sit right with me. And as the story reads, “Mrs. Mwamba has been admitted to Milpark Hospital for close to a month”…that’s too long for one to be in hospital. Is it because of the “beatings” GBM has been putting on her? Is it amalwele ya chikata? We need to know what is really going on here…yes we do, since Sata is using tax payers money for a trip that would otherwise be private. TELL US THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT THIS STORY!!!!!!!!

  14. Seriously this is blatant abuse of office, there is no way the president can fly to South Africa just to visit his friend’s wife and his friend happens to be a renowned wife batterer.kwangala oku…

  15. Mwayamba kale anso.Sikuti munali kukamba ati ise tikadwala tizayamba kuyenda chabe ku UTH, na kwa Levy kuja ku Chainama. Kale kale sopano anso mwayamba kale.

  16. No.19 – Aikona Kubambila

My understanding is that she is suffering from internal injuries inflicted by Mwamba as a result of one of his wife battering sprees. So, this trip wasnt worth spending tax payer’s money on

  17. It may be because of the beatings from the man’s whip. Clearly GBM is not one woman fellow. So he also has a parmanent sikalileke.

  18. When KK was in hospital in Angola this serpent of a president didn’t even make an effort to check up on him. Maybe afuna kupaona pa mukazi wamunzake!

  19. #19 AIKONA KUBAMBILA you are the ignorant and stupid one here! This is clearly private business being paid for by the taxpayer. Everything that Sata does using government machinery should be in the best interest of the country. I for one wish Mr.s Mwamba a quick recovery, and if Mr. Sata wants to visit a sick friend in hospital thats well and good…..BUT NOT ON THE TAXPAYER’S DIME!!! Sata is a hypocrite and has all the qualities of a dictator. Zambian politcs, kuti wapena trying to follow this circus!

  20. The money that should have been in my pocket by now, was spent visiting the wife batterer’s wife in hospital? This on top of money being wasted in endless cois, firing and hiring as well as re-aligning districts and ministries?

  21. These Zambian, that’s you never visit your mothers & sisters back home, because you think it is worst of money. Visit a sick person is more important than attending a funeral or inauguration of a president.
Most of you never ever attended a funeral back in Zambia since you run away from poverty. Do you know the relationship between GBM & Sata, imwe bashinka manyela

  22. This Milpark Nonsense should come to an end, Renovate Maina Soko and equip it, what’s wrong with our leaders, Bills at Milpark are Over R200,000 a week for VIPs. Can’t we invest in a Good VVIP Hospital in Zambia that can sustain itself like Milpark? NO INNOVATION & THINKING

  23. On a serious Note, SATA does not like travelling we all know, Rumors has it that she is very ill seriously ill hence the Visit, better off visiting a sick person than funeral. Was told by a Southern Friend who is a doctor in MILPARK, so Zambians pray for her, she is one of us. I wish her a quick recovery.

  24. Sata just used the ocassion to go for a quicky heart review. It’s the same hosipital where he has been mending his heart.

We know all the tricks. Levy always flew through London for a quicky check. So ba Sata don’t think we are dull.

  25. Actually SATA WENT TO MEET HIS DR. It could never be true that he went to visit the lady. I wonder what lie he will give during his next visit for his cadic problem. Shame, lies seem to thrive

  26. Couldn’t he giver her a phone call? hum! so he will go and see every cabinet ministers wife who will be sick? Mr president, mulebako serious…

  27. Entitalments, when presidents travel be it personnal, official or even medical they use govt resources, intentions well spelt. There are blessings in visiting the sick.Get well soon madam.

  28. Same old story of taking people to Mill Park. How come she was not not taken to the new private hospital next to Nipa. Could it be that the president also went for a check up?

  29. Levy Hospital being brand new can’t function?

What kind of machines did the Chinese install there?
    Flu tablet dispensers?

  30. When a foreigner travels to Zambia we are advised to get medical insurance that enables us to fly to RSA for the nearest reputable hospital.

Now that tells you how good the services are in Zambia.

    CHANGE THE SITUATION LOCALLY FIRST!!

  31. You insulted RB day and about sending patients to RSA what is that abused woman doing there?Tell if she dying due terminal stage of HIV oro it is due to internal injuries from “Tyson” ?If it is HIV related she better at home like yesterday because that we can professionally look after.Satana when did you get courage to fly around wasting tax payers money like that?We demand that you pay back this money or we shall get from your terminal benefits/estate.

  32. Lord I know you meant well Mr President but please not on our taxi payers money we berg. Less you forget that you used to condemn RB over such

  33. This tradition of GRZ officials using foreign private hospitals should seriously be paid from their own private pocket instead of using tax payers money. Maybe they could start taking out hospitals and Doctors seriously. How embarrassingly pathetic is this.

  34. Interesting – a president comes into a country and leaves without meeting his counterpart? What protocol is this?

  35. Ba ililonga and other dull fools around, which schools did you go to? As ililonga goes for work this morning, he will probably be driving his car at 80 km/hr and as he enters the premises of his work place, his car will be moving at 20km/h. At that point, would he tell the world that his car will be moving backwards, No! CSO told you that inflation was 6.4% last month and that now it is 6.0%. It did not say prices have reduced, No! Shame to all “educated” fools who call themselves economists and cant understand Grade 7 work.

  36. If I recall, the PF promised that they would halt these trips to South Africa for medical treatment. Instead they were going to equip our own hospitals with all the needed equipment so that government stops spending huge sums of money on foreign medical care. Now we can see that PF is eating its own vomit. How hypocritical can one be!

  37. The used to say RB travels so much when he was going around looking for investment for the country

Now its joy rides to see people wives in hospital…   hahahaha

    Did we not tell you

  38. If the president from the same mouth is questioning whether the illness can be treated here in zambia then he is contradicting himself by traveling for the same illness.
what type of judgement is that ?
who is footing the bill , is it GBM trying to compete with mandela or is it tax payers money to warrant satas questioning?

  39. Wasting money on Sata and his entourage just to visit Mrs. Mwamba when poor baby Daniel with a rare eye condition needed funds for specialist treatment and it had to take well wishers to contribute towards the baby’s wellbeing. Sata was mute about baby Daniel’s health, shame!

  40. May the soul of Princess lewanika who gave up the ghost at Lewanika General hopital rest in peace, kwa litooma. Our hearts are filled with great sorrow for a mother of the greatest sons and daughters of africa.she broght to this earth people of dynamic skills.muyo pumula kanawa banana.

  41. YOU BEAT HER AGAIN CHI MWAMBA KA. SATA YOU ARE FLYING MINISTERS WIFES TO SA WHILE US CIVIL SERVANTS ARE SUFFERING. THE POOR WILL DIE IN UTH WHILE YOU FLY TO EXPENSIVE HOSPITALS. YOU EASILY FORGET SATAN

  42. At least there are traces of wanting to fulfil some campaign promises about making sure treatment of senior GRZ officials is within our boundaries… though here it is misplaced coz this is GBM’s wife. If GBM has the money allow him to send his better half wherever he likes. Just make sure our health system is pimped up.

  43. #68 PM. My instinct is to curse you for that comment but instead I will pray for u. Wishing death on someones Daughter, Mother, Wife, Grandmother and Sister is not something i would wish on my worst enemy. Trying wishing her well so the President doesn’t have to go back. May God guide and forgive you #68.

  44. (Corrected) #68 PM. My instinct is to curse you for that comment but instead I will pray for u. Wishing death on someones Daughter, Mother, Wife, Grandmother and Sister is not something i would wish on my worst enemy. Try wishing her well so the President doesn’t have to go back. May God guide and forgive you #68.

    • I take offense in what you said; but since I love my country – I will forgive you. I am Bemba, but I neither approve of Sata’s actions, nor did I vote for him.
      One Zambia, one nation.

  45. mwefi bantu the president did well to travel .mwanawasa used to travel to china and watch the (sumos) very fat naked men,and RB used to travel to swaziland and watch very cute young naked women but you never condemed but our presido traved to see the sick lady you condem .dont just hate the person cause he defeated your useless presidents bafi coulor.

  46. They is something fishie going on, i dont think the whole President can leave state functions to go to check on one wife of a minister, is it may be he also underwent medicals in RSA. lets not be fooled the guy went for medical treatment not what has been said. is she that important that cabinet should stand still because of this woman that was abused by GBM.

  47. Chi namba 73, ulinkonko sana chimwaiche! i guess you are one of those sickler bulls from southern province.

  48. Opposition parties please make note of this trip. It shall be probed and investigated accordingly once Sata is out of office.

  49. While it is a noble gesture, it should have been done with the presidents own money. We were told in Livingstone he chose public transport to save money; why did he have to use the Challenger for a very personal errand? The cost involved to fly that thing is colossal. To start with it has to fly from South Africa, pick him and fatso up, fly back to South Africa, visit, fly him back and head back to South Africa to park. Thats a cost that could have been avoided. But then of course, cost saving is relative….

  50. WHATS WRONG WITH DE PRESIDENT PAYING A CALL ON CHAMA IN HOSPITAL. LETS BE HUMANE. I WISH GBM’S WIFE QUICK RECOVERY. LETS NOT MAKE FUN ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES. YOU LIVE ONCE ONLY AND NO 2 WAYS ABOUT.

  51. #5 pls note that the lady in the picture is mrs Mwamba not Sylvia Masebo as you have stated. This picture was taken during opening of paliament when mr Mwamba was PF MP during the previous government before she was beaten up.
    Thank you.

  52. hahahaha its really more pocket in our money…. this old sata is a problem  GBM  and sata ar friends..us pf we ar loosing the track….we laughed RB but now it is RB to laugh at us…. but ka sata takofya

  53. There nothing wrong to using the personal Presidential Jet on urgent matters such as this. GBM invested heavily in PF. Zambians must travel and see what other Presidents have and do.All this corruption and waste of government resources in Zambia is chicken feed…you have given corruption a bad name. The country is now infested with Nigerian 419 Banks, British, Zimbabwean and South African Banks and not a single Zambian owns a Bank for fear of being called corrupt and you are wondering where your dollars are going and exchage rates that are sky high. No wonder Liato had to burry his money…Its now cheaper to use the Kwacha as wall paper than to buy real wall paper. You’ll wake and find even all your mines are taken over by these so called Banks very soon. Wake up and have a life…

  54. Is GBM paying for his wife’s medical bills using the money he is siphoning off from the defence ministry and his shody maize deals or did boma pay for the patching up of her bruises?

  55. The reality has dawned for Micheal Chilufya Sata. I wonder what is going on in his mind as he sits in that house called plot 1. I wonder what coment he would be making if he was still in opposition. Sending people to hospitals outside of the country. SATA build one because you sang this song a lot when you were in opposition.

  56. Principal: I understand bana Chama is quite ill in Johannesburg (sigh…)
Aide: Well if you want to pay her a visit I can arrange…..we can leave at 09:00hrs tomorrow morning and we shall be back in Lusaka at 15:00hrs in time for you to meet those people from Mbala
    Principal: What? Are you sure?
Aide: Yes sir! In fact it will also give you a breather so you don’t have to think about gays and BRE
    Principal: Bwali cenjela mwaice…efyo nakusalile….!.

  57. It is easy to waste resources if one has never worked for it. Sata only worked in the coninal erra and he does not understand the pain of being a tax payer. He has leaved on it through and through hence it does not make sense to expect him to respect tax payers money. How does the entire presidency go to SA go come on a private visit using our resources with no shame at all. PF said Sata has experience, the question is which experience;
    1. abuse of funds – MENZA flats project and renovation of hospitals
    2. disrespectful of procedures – breaking the constitution at will look at the apppointments
    3. one needs a whole day to complete the list

  58. Where is kabimba to tell us the truth on this one coz it seems u know a lot than ministers, did your boss went to c this woman or went to c his doctor, if its true is ths cost serving on tax payers/ what is so special about this woman? serious hw can the president use the money made for other developmental issues just to go and this woman whose husband is batterer and why was the country not told when she was taken to that hospital but told SATA went to visit her u PF CHAPS U MUST BE SERIOUS

  59. Get well soon and in our prayers, Chama. Despite your long suffering at the hands of an abuser you are always smiling and polite. Battered wife syndrome is very complicated especially in Africa where families, children and grandchildren are involved. She should be supported instead of being mocked until she has the courage to change her circumstance. In the meantime she has been in hospital for an operation which didnt go well before and had to be redone twice. Stop speculating in such a mean manner and be more charitable to people in their hour of need. Let us pray for Chama and her family regardless of how we feel about the current politics or even MCS or GBM!!

  60. To begin with reporting on LT is far from impressive. they should have found out at least what is wrong with Mrs GBM, secondly a comment should have been obtained from the presidency as to weather this was a private visit or a state sanctioned visit. Looking at the president’s movements we can then conclude it was a private visit as he used a smaller airport and minimum protocol was observed. If its a private visit we dont know if it was paid for by GBM or th e state. Remember MCS has a private life and it is in order if it is not funded by the tax payer

  61. @teze bantu, spot on bro. Lets stick to issues and not aimless assasinations with very little facts. Much as Im not a PF supporter, I enjoy high level debate instead of hate harvesting and mean commentary on personal matters – its cheap and ‘unzambian’. Lets call ourselves to the highest ideals of who we are folks, sticking to issues. family matters like illnesses, misfortunes, mindless gossip etc should really be off limits. we have a responsibilty to raise the level of discussion and debate in this country so that people start to truly think about what is important when we make dicisions about our future and the country etc. gossip and slunder certainly wont get us there and is part of the problem right now. Lets put the Mwamba family in our prayers and leave this alone

  62. I smell a big rat here. Protocol is not tying up bane. A wife of a cabinet minister. No problem if it was UTH. Zuma not met at all and back quickly. The wife looks like Masebo indeed. I wouldn`t have known without reading.

  63. As important as the issue of wife battering is – I do not believe it should be the point. Presidents are not ordinary people in the sense that they cannot just drop in on a country without clearance, security protocal etc. I cannot believe that no one is astounded at the expense and trouble the president went to to visit an ailing friend relative or colleagues wife. Please someone tell me he paid for this because had any of the previous leaders dared to do this, it would be one of the reasons advanced for setting up expensive inquiries to investigate this apparent blatant abuse of office and public resources.

  64. I’m rather confused about Michael Sata’s movement in and out of South Africa. We are not told if any South African Government official was on hand to welcome the president and take him to Milpak Hospital.I know the Hospital very well because on five occasions I have taken my son there for treatment. All functions at this Hospital such as Pharmacy,Nursing,Laboratory,Canteen,
Cleaning,Accounting, various Hospital medical equipment etc are contracted out to private institutions specialized in any of the fields obtaining there. Can our medical people study that arrangement at Milpak Hospital and see if we can copy it here in Zambia. As for GBM,he has always been sending his dear wife at this Hospital even when he was not a Cabinet Minister.

  65. ” President Sata said he asked a Zambian doctor Doroth Kasonde to liaise with her South African counterparts to see if Mrs Mwamba’s medical condition can be treated using facilities in Zambia” What no-sense is this? Between a South African and Zambian, who understands the conditions and facilities available back home in Zambian? Why ask South Africans to advise you on the adequacy of your medical facilities to treat Mrs Mwamba when you know better what exists in your hospitals? The President wants to hoodwink Zambians to think that he cares more about how taxpayers’ hard money is being wasted in foreign hospitals. Zambians wake up! Dont allow Sata to treat you like you are children. This is being f

oolish in the eyes of us intelligent Zambians.

  66. imagine if it was RB visitng Mpombo’s (defence) wife with challenger and Satana was still opposition. Just imagine what Post headline could have been. Chaona mzako chapita.

  67. GBM, lol.. whats with the weight. No wonder he beats up the wife. Lets face it, with that weight performance is next to zero. Poor woman, get well soon and a get a D*** from SA with rechargeable battries coz you aint gona give you any from hubby for it is imposible.

  68. We sympathise with the Mwamba family over the illnes of Mrs Mwaba. Trusting she recovers quickly and return home. However, we do not agree that the entire president should see it fit to travel to South Africa to visit the sick. Suffice to say Mr Mwaba to be in S.A. for moral support to his wife. Mr Sata be-littles national issues to be of non effect to waste time and resources flying around without a national agenda. He condemned his predecessor vehemently on travels outside the country and labeled him a tourist president. How far is Mr Sata not to wear that badge and worse without any positive development registered todate. This has necessited Zambians to doubt his ability to lead with unclear national agenda and weak governance.

  69. It is very painful to realize that Sata & his PF never meant what they said while campaigning. How do they expect people to believe anything they are going to say in future? Some people think life is a joke!

  70. Realign her, i repeat, realign her from that monster GBM otherwise you will continue wasting valauable time travelling to SA to see her at the expense of doing meaningful work.

  71. Visit some one sick in South Africa hospital. Why did he not allow GB to have gone their a month ago when the wife was admited there. Now who is going to pay the bills. The president should have sent Guy scot to travel by coach to JB.

  72. Abuse of public resources quite alright but let’s remembr that GBM is Sata’s friend and one of the PF’s top financier, the PF would probably not have been in power now had GBM not bankrolled the party so Sata knows he owes GBM a lot. They could have used a commercial airline but who knows, maybe the Presidential jet has medical facilities Sata needs since he’s probably not allowed to travel much due to his own ill health, maybe he also took this chance to have his own medical checkup in SA,who knows.

  73. Who are we to judge let the Lord judge GBM if he is the causer ,MCS even in the bible its written i was in hospital and you never visited me ,even Jesus said it the poor you shall forever be with ,no matter how many hours you work trying to eradicate poverty they always be there So six hours from the office to see someone is in hospital is ok with me as your boss.Flying to SA using my money for a good cause is ok.People will always condem cant you feel better the entire MCS visiting you ,people buried our money yet there are still out there enjoying.Lord have your healing mercies on this woman Chama.

  74. Shame this comes a little late but for those of you screaming abuse of public funds by President Sata…… consider this;

GBM has been using vast amounts of OUR (we the taxpayers) money to pay for the medical bills. If Sata is trying to get this woman back into Zambia to be treated here and is doing it in a diplomatic way…… I don’t see the problem….. that trip to SA and back probably cost much less than what GBM is spending and will spend for as long as she’s there….

I wish her well, but it shudnt be at the expense of us taxpayers. GBM is a corrupt greedy man. Go to the ministry of defence and see the mess he is making. Its not rocket science  that is why Panji moved to a different ministry…..
