Seventy people whose houses are earmarked for demolition pave way for a major ring road project in Lusaka have been compensated.

The road project in some parts of Kabwata and Chilenje is expected to commence next month end.

Lusaka Mayor Daniel Chisenga said the 30 Billion Kwacha budgeted for the project has already been released to seventy owners while two households are yet to be paid.

Mr Chisenga says some of the people who have been paid have already started parking and preparing to move.

And the Mayor says he is impressed with some road works carried out in some parts of the city because there has been fresh focus on the construction of a good drainage system besides the roads .

Mr Chsienga says this will ensure that rain water drains easily and does not impact on the quality of roads after they have been constructed.

He was speaking after a tour of some of the roads in the city.

  1. UNLESS I SEE IT START .WHAT ABOUT COMING UPWITH IDEAS OF OTHER PROJECTS BECAUSE THIS ONE WAS THE IDEA OF MWANA WASA .LET UKWA ALL SO COME WITH A MAJOR PROJECT FOR THE COUNTRY. HOWEVER IF THEY ARE GOING TO DO IT WELL AND GOOD

    • Continuation is very important, development is incremental. Why do you people always want to start, change your thinking please!!! Let’s finish what was started then think of new projects it doesn’t matter whose ideas it was it benefits all of us period!!! Problem’s you always want to condemn even progressive ideas just because it is coming from pf. Let’s for once support continuity. Do you want pf to behave like Chiluba’s MMD about Kaunda?

  2. THE REPORTER PLEASE JACJ UP YOUR ENGLISH,ITS ITS PACK NOT PARKED, IT SHOULD READ THE RESIDENTS HAS STARTED TO PACK & NOT PARK.LUSAKA TIMES WHY EMPLOY JOURNALIST WITH LITTLE EDUCATION WHO CAN NOT EVEN SPELL SIMPLE ENGLISH WORDS BECAUSE EVEN A CHINESE WILL NOT SAY PARK INSTEAD OF PACK .ITS 48YEARS SINCE INDEPENDENCE AND OUR JOURNALIST CANT EVEN SPELL PROPERLY.COME ON GUYS JACK UP.

  3. THAT IS WHY I VOTED FOR MMD, LOOK AT HOW GOOD OUR ROADS ARE. I WANTED TO SEE THE COMPLETION OF RING ROADS THAT MMD FOUGHT FOR. LET US SEE WHAT PF WILL DO APART FROM TRIBAL APPOINTMENTS.

  4. guys I the think the pf needs to be given credit for at least continuing the project and not cancelling it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. @3 Whether the project was started by MMD, Mwanawasa, its a viable one and will benefit the citizens of Lusaka therefore its no folly to continue it. MMD did the planning and PF will implement it. Every major city in the world has a ring road and it help decongest traffic. There will be no need to go through the Central Busness District of Lusaka to get to Mazabuka, Chipata, CB etc. continuity mwe bantu……isuma

that is like the pot calling the kettle black.Go through your post and thereafter apologise to the Editor coz your spellings are worse off.

  7. At list MMD started the roads. What hsa PF sterted so far? Zero. The cities are now more dirty than any time before. This is what 90 days can do.

  8. Levels of thinking on this blog can get too low. PF is being excellent by completing all the roads started by the MMD. Do you think they will just sit there after these jobs are completed? Five years is a long time and personally I will judge the PF in 2016 and decide what to do with my vote.

  9. @MALIKOPO.
IF YOU GOT THE POINT THEN WHY DO YOU WANT TO SHOW AS IF YOU KNOW ENGLISH OVER THAT FOUR LETTER CORRECTION. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE AN EDITOR WHY DONT YOU ASK FOR WORDS FROM MUSHOTA OR GEORGE MPOMBO

  10. Thanks RB and MMD, but that is supposed to be said by donchi not me. But then that is too much to expect of donchi, they like to take credit for other people’s achievements.

    • SATA should work with RB closely for he has alot to offer the country.PersonallyI would like the two to exchange ideas on the development plan of the country.Though RB lost the elections, he is a good leader. I equally miss RB and the MMD.

  11. Haha Its JICA that planned for these ring roads, what has a blackman ever planned for? Nothing. JICA is even paying for it. Your city planners failed to plan for this for years. They just know what many other educated  Zambians know best, drinking and fu*king (and getting AIDS), while expecting others to do their sh*t. Ati its MMD’s project, no Its JICA’s hand-out project to Zambia. PF can get credit if it wants, coz black people are the same, opportunists!

  12. does it really matter who started what..? I will know what PF has started in 2016,so until then dont ask me what I have planned for Zambia and Barotse and no one shud say sh****t u hear me..!!! lol 2016 eish its faaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr VIVA PF

  13. Ba chimbwi muletasha! If they did not continue with the developmental projects you would have been sulking but they have continued but you are still bwatabwataling!

  14. PF should just tell Zambians where the hell is the King Cobra, whats going on and when he will be back.I have never seen or ever heard of such disappearance of a Head of state!GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  15. INDIAN ZAMBIAN ( mwenye)
I was in India 2 months ago, I cried when I saw how your relatives suffer. Some families have never lived in a house and don’t even know how a toilet looks like, when they want to answer call of nature, they just squat anyway and do the business as long as they cover their faces no problem- I mean generations here. So just shut up for now and leave practicing of rascism to others who are genuinely better.

  16. More details of the project needed, u are saying it will start next month so it means the design is ready , tell us how much the rign road will cost, who is the contractor, the road alignment/ where is it going to pass? What are we going to achieve by constructing such a ring road. The news is still half baked

  17. A good govt builds and continues with progressive projects and abandons bad practices like corruption,This projected was actually mooted by Sata when he was governor of Lusaka, anyhow regardless,PF did not come to destroy but to build.

  18. @ 8 you’ve also made an error in your grammer you dont say residents has but residents have.this is a foreign language so dont say too much because you end up making mistakes as you have done

  19. Oh god! this country!!!! can we really debate on WHO started instead of debating on the importance and merit of the said road? Since I am in an office, I presume most of the bloggers are in their offices. I personally check these websites to get appraised with new developments. The ring road is a positive development. Let us all level headed Zambians support the project. The Japanese have done an IDP for Lusaka. I hope most of the plan will be implemented.

  20. How can you honestly have a RING ROAD for Lusaka that passes as close as Kabwata and Chilenje??? This road is supposed to pass by state lodge area cutting across the bush to behind Jack Compount all the way cutting across Livingstone road may be somewhere near Andrews motel and round like that. WHAT RING-ROAD ARE YOU CONSTRUCTING INSIDE THE TOWN???? But BLACKS, why is it that thinking is always a problem??? Visit other countries to see what they are doing, please. Go to Kenya and see what a serious ring-road looks like. Kenyans are serious. You don’t build a road through innercity compounds and call it a ring-troad. A ring-road by definition is a pointer to the future size of the city. But ofcourse it is black brains at work…Zambian engineers have absolutely no reputation on earth.

  21. RING ROAD – my foot. You are constructing a path through Kabwat and Chilenje – please stop lying to people. It is not a ring road you are constructing! Even children think better than these adults in Lusaka. May be we shouold borrow kids from Europe to come and run our affairs. By the way, this is annoying because money has been borrowed to build a rinbg-road around Kabwata and chileneje so that residents can be driving round and round their houses. Seriously this is not a ring-road around Lusaka. Next Time we will hear that the ring road will be passing near Manda Hill and through the city center !!!

  22. @35 your observation is good. I have lived in Nairobi for some years till December 2011. The road they are calling ring road is not worth it. At independence, Zambia had less than 4 million people. Thats why we find houses in the middle of the main bussiness centre (bad structures). Poor planning. However what I don’t like is your use of the term “blacks”. I am Zambian. God bless.

  23. Right now, Kenyans are planning to build a city (named Konza City) at the cost of 3 trilion Kenyan Shillings (2 bilion US dollas), in-line with the vision 2030. It will be like Dubai with fast trains like those in Japany and Germany. It will be the centre for ICT and many more technological areas. It will be 50 km away from Nairobi close to Machakos. Also, Jomo Kenyata International Airport is already under construction, completion very soon (in less than 2 years from now).
Lets work for our country. It pains to see others do it better.

  24. bakolwe kusekana ifipato…whilst correcting your friend’s grammar, mind yours too! Dnt say ”the residents has started to pack…” say ”the residents have started to pack…” I will take it to be slip of the…
