Bill Gates visits Zambia

Share

Bill Gates the American business magnate is in Zambia. He is in the country to see his foundation’s work in the country. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provides funding for Malaria No More.Malaria No More is determined to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015.

According to Reports from the Ministry of Health in 2011,statistics showed that deaths from malaria had decreased by over 50%.

‘I’ll be looking at malaria intervention in Zambia, because that’s where we supported the first major efforts to distribute bed nets and get people to use them. After we began this work, the U.S. started the President’s Malaria Initiative, which essentially expanded what we were doing in Zambia and replicated the program in other countries.

‘Malaria deaths are way down from their peak in Zambia. Bed nets have been very effective. But we’re still looking for answers to some questions about them. How much do they help long term? How quickly do they wear out? Despite them, do malaria deaths eventually rebound, as we’ve seen somewhat in Zambia (particularly in the north)? Why the increase – is it because people didn’t use the nets, because they’re torn, because mosquitoes adapted, or simply because mosquito numbers vary from year to year?

Nobody ever thought bed nets alone would drive malaria to zero. They’re a really good tool, but you’ll need a couple other tools that you use in a deep way to ever get to eliminating malaria in a particular location or community. Everything we’re learning is equipping us to achieve our long-term goal, which is to eliminate malaria locally in a whole lot of communities, building to eventually emptying the malaria map,’Mr.Gates said.

  1. Thank God Sata is not in the country! We have been embarrassed enough! U never knw what comes out of ukwas mouth!

  2. I hoping to seeing this initiated implemented especially in rural areas. Make sure you put controls to the monies, make sure it reaches its intended target- the people.

    • Bill Gates no longer devotes his time towards any profitable investments himself but his venture capital firm handles that. He has dedicated 100% of his time towards philanthropic causes since he left Microsoft. He has so far denoted over $28 billion and his foundation almost single handedly wiped out polio in India after pumping in almost $2 billion there. His visit to Zambia is not for tourism or anything like that, this is a serious man and if I was President, would actually give him a state reception because of what he is capable of doing. I would make sure he met with KK and the two of them would come up with a very strong policy on malaria eradication in Zambia. He also wants to wipe out hunger by helping people work with modern ways of improving agricultural technologies.

    • If I was President, I would make sure he met with the Minister of Agriculture to find ways of employing all the villages to make sure all the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise benefited from his trip. Imagine what a $2 billion investment from his Foundation working with the Kenneth Kaunda Foundation would do to wipe out hunger in Africa by setting up the necessary schemes in Zambia as a pilot project for the entire world to see that it is possible to wipe out hunger.

My only worry is that the current crop of politicians may not even take advantage of the fact that the world’s largest philanthropist is in Zambia right now, they might miss this glorious opportunity to take advantage of things to do with him to bring Zambia back on the world map … out time is now.

  3. OH!!!! Good timing Bill, you have come at a time when our empty-head UKWA is away… he would have embarrassed himself and the country. Please leave before he comes.

  4. The truth iwe,
what has sata got to do with Bill Gates visit? He probably would not have met him anyway, had he been here.

  5. Most of the Green Bucks this guy has donated has ended up building mansions in chalala and buying cars from Pilatus. The intended activity has maybe benefited a paltry 15%.

    • The problem we have IS THIS MENTALITY OF BEGGING!!!!!!!! BEGGING Has NEVER GIVEN RISE TO INNOVATION & INDUSTRIOUSNESS (I & I), rather I & I , give rise to WEALTH!!!!!!!

  6. #8- My friend trust me you dont get to be that wealthy by being stupid. These guys know what they are doing and they are monitoring and accounting for those dollars. Dont let that little smile fool you, the man means well and he has a strong team watching and updating him on whats going on with the projects.

  7. every effort to improve the quality of life should be supported by all zambians. Thank you for helping us Bill.

  8. Mr. Bill Gates, come to Paraguay too, people are dying of dengue here. Dengue is even more dangerous than malaria.

  9. Nice to have such people with good hearts visiting our country. I f such billionaires can stay in our country without fearing for their lives it means our country is a good destiny and could attract even investors because security is vital. Wel-come “William” Bill and have a good stay and God bless you.

  10. The best I can do is to buy your MS products (not apple). At least I know that a cent or so will go towards protecting a poor soul on earth. Wish our money thirst politicians can emulate this guy and learn to serve people.

  15. so many many visitors from usa this time around H Clinton, Bush, SDA pastor, Bill gates name them all of them flocking to zambia leaving behind the energised BRE able to freely make noise for self rule – surely the ulterial motive of all these visits will one day come out – the nation is watcing…..

  16. Master Bill and Mrs Melinda, thanks for sharing your zillions with us. ‘Ppreciate if you can dig even deeper and give us something also for the drainage and roads. As you know, mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water. You know, kind of like dealing with the root cause of the problem!

    Thanks

  17. Bill, welcome to Zambia, you provide a welcome distraction to our gloomy politics.
But many thanks for your kindness. Pass our regards and appreciation to Melinda too.

  18. Source[The Gates Notes Blog,LT]… what is LT saying on the source of the story. LT just has to quote The Gates Note as the source of the story NOT 2 put LT as if the story was done by LT

    • Number 30 say what u want. I dont think commenting on other peoples thoughts is the dullest thing u can do. Think independently man. U are making this chat boring.

  19. Thanks Bill. God bless you, your family and your work.

Hope GRZ learns 1 or 2 things about fighting malaria in Zambia, so that in the end, we can wage the war ourselves, or at least those areas you have not reached.

  20. Welcome Mr. Gates. Hope you enjoy your stay. Politics aside, Zambia is and has been a peaceful and loving nation. I hope your efforts and commitment will help the general populace. I m sure if we had reasonable or half credible leaders you would have been accorded a proper welcome befitting your status, and just to appreciate what u r doing for people less fortunate than u. I have always admired your charity work, keep up.

  21. For a minute I thought It was true, Bill gates is in Zambia

Why visit Zambia instead of Scotland? with our summer weather ?

Thank goodness It is not true

I thought I would be deceived too, but I rose above it perhaps because of my PHD soon, MBA, CIMA, ACCA and oxford brookes Univ

    Thanks

    • ACCA, CIMA and PhD are your dreams, do not pretend to have them. I know that you got Shagged anal- style to get a passport. I am character assassin and am here to expose you. Why do you even write thanks at the end of your sentences like you’ve just finished giving head? Scotland is a village. Even Zambia gets more press. Go and shove it up your rectum!

  22. Bill, people do not even realise that you funded all the anti polio drugs we got as infants. Thanks a lot.

  23. Too bad for the Sata haters and the Bad News Rumor Party (UPND). No matter the hate and insults you will die in poverty

    • The tongas my friend are rich. They look poor but very rich. It is us who will die in poverty that is why our chief is busy asking for alms as we do not have fish to exchange with maize. What is wrong with us? We are good at talking, very good at it indeed. Tuleya tubombe, awe nakalya! That is why it is ease to beg because it is talking.

  24. Thank God for PF government we are witnessing God’s favor over our nation. So many VIPS visiting us,Glory be to God.

  25. bill gates welcome. but there was a time when a team from melinda and gates came to kabwe and promised to dessiminate agricultural information thru improved IT. what is the situation. food is life. eliminate hunger and malaria

  26. Thanks Bill, keeping donating nets, dont donate money Zambian people are too corrupt if you give them cash they will steal and they wont use it for its purpose of fighting malaria.

  27. Welcome Bill & Melinda. But don’t forget to visit Vic Falls & South Lwanga National Park &the Lower Zambezi.

    • Hey mate, the man is ON A MISSION, & NOT A HOLIDAY TO LAZE AROUND unlike some of you do when you make a few bucks!!

  28. Welcome Bill & Melinda. But don’t forget to visit Vic Falls & South Lwanga National Park & the Lower Zambezi.

  29. Ok. I have a big question for Mr Windows. Is there no any other better way to fight malaria than providing mosquito nets to the community? That sounds like a kid’s project… The better way is education and sensitization of the community on the matter on how to stop the breeding of the mosquito responsible for this infectious and deadly disease

  30. You zedians are *****s. When are u going to stop asking for help. Always help help.when are we going to change and also give to bill gates. Your president is in India to ask for a benefit in the 50million loan India is givig out. When are we going to help the poor in India. Let us learn to be self reliant. Bill is here and u guys are asking for more. Blacks everywhere are asking for help.

  31. Lessons to learn. Bill Gates is a good example of how the power of a good vision enables you to stay on track. When he co-founded Microsoft the vision was “ A computer in every home and on every desk”. Since then, the growth of Microsoft has been simply awesome and the vision has not changed. When he and his wife co-founded the Gates Foundation the vision was “ Every human life has equal value”, and since then the Foundation has become the biggest charity in the World and the vision has not changed.

  32. Why certain Zambians fail to draw a line between politics and economic issues? Bill Gates visit to Zambia has got nothing to do wit Sata’s absence. Don’t bring in the name of Sata in Bill Gates visit. He never came for him or politics.

  33. Thanks Bill for recognizing some of our problems very few share their wealth in good deed God bless you and your family

  34. @ dot com most are blind. This is how Africa was colonized before. Ask mr. Gates how many black people are in the hierarchy of his greedy soft. Don’t just praise and insult your own SMH.

  35. hehehehe! While Zambia are wasting time going to universities obtaining PhDs and stealing money Bill made it without a digree. Just determination. I on my path following him.

  36. I had hoped Bill and Melinda would visit Malaria Institute at Macha (MIAM). A lot of work has been done on Malaria there.

  37. It is really a nice and useful piece of information. I’m satisfied that you shared this helpful info with us. Please stay us up to date like this. Thanks for sharing.

  38. I’m a level 1 guy w/the Army and I absolutely love your prmgoamring. I’ve been following it on and off for the last 2 and a half years. But I have to be honest. I still really don’t understand all of the Jargon. Could someone please explain to me, at base level idiocy sort of simplicity what ALL OF THIS MEANS???Swim (SS Thu, 3S Fri): 10-20 x 50m on 0:45, hold within 3-5 seconds ???And how does the training differ between Single Sport (SS) and multiple or triple sport??? I’m sorry man, I’m just trying to wrap my head around it all. Won’t be able to attend a seminar or a cert for another year or so probably.

  39. Thanks for another wonderful article. Where else may anybody get that type of information in such an ideal method of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m at the search for such info.
