Former defense chiefs formally arrested

Time Posted: March 29, 2012 2:27 pm

File: Former Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Wisdom Lopa (left) and Zambia National Service Commander Major General Anthony Yeta

The joint investigative wings have formally arrested and charged three former defence chiefs.

These are former Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Wisdom Lopa, former ZAF Commander Lt. General Andrew Sakala, and former Zambia National Service (ZNS) commandant Major General Anthony Yeta.

The three have been arrested and charged with theft by public servant.

This is connection with the disappearance of the K1.5 billion meant for the operations of the three wings of the defence, namely Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service.

The three whilst acting together allegedly stole 1.5 billion kwacha funds meant for the defense wings for operations during and after the elections last year.

The three former defence chiefs have since been granted 50 million kwacha police bond each with two working sureties and are expected to appear in court soon.

Joint investigative spokesperson Charity Chanda confirmed the development to journalists a short while ago at Woodlands Police Station were they appeared

This is how rotten to the very core of our governance system had been under MMD.

Its a serious risk to work as a senior civil servant in Zambia,i thought the three defence forces mentioned are autonomous from each other.

Will the President give them immunity from prosecution for breaking the official secret act, or are they going to remain silent and die for the security of Zambia?

These men did not learn from the experiences of three other military commanders; Musengule, Singogo, and Funjika. Or did they also think MMD was going to win and those corrupt MMD leaders would look the other way? Zambia’ is really rotten to the core.

#9 and #13, Stupid chaps. Let you Civilians continue with this indiscipline, we shall teach you a big lesson. There is too much passiveness  among the Zambian Civilians. You will learn a good lesson if the military takes over. We need to transform these ****** into human beings. First we will  destroy you and build you up properly. You are still in limbo. Stupid chaps.

How is this possible? Look at the reshuffles RB made:
Addressing a news conference at state house the President announced that he has retired Zambia Army commander General Isaac Chisuzi and replaced him with Brigadier General Wisdom Lopa who was until now Zambia’s military attache to Ethiopia.
Mr. Banda also retired Major General Samuel Mapala as Zambia Air force commander and has recalled from retirement, Brigadier General Andrew Sakala as his replacement.
Others included Zambia National service commandant Raphael Chisheta has also been retired and replaced by Brigadier general Anthony Yeta who has been moved from the Zambia army.

I hope the balange balange culture in Zambia comes to an end. Look ati weddings kwati ya ma pop stars.you cannot spend hard earned money like they do on such things .The expensive 4x4s the list is endless. Instead of maintaing good roads for even small cars to move well we go for fima big motokas incuding those for ministers which is not the case in rich countries.

TOO MUCH STEALING IN ZAMBIA. MONEY FOR PROJECTS, ROADS, etc IS ALWAYS STOLEN through conniving. THINGS ARE EXPESNIVE DUE TO ARTIFICIAL COST OF FUEL. DRIVERS STEAL HALF OF THE FUEL IN TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES AND CONNIVE WITH PETROL ATTENDANTS FOR FAKE RECEIPTS. WHAT A COUNTRY!!!

Former secretary of MMD greatest thief arrest him. He spoiled the party, created UKWA kingdom and turning to arrest his former friends. Who is not a thief after all. They were just carrying the orders from their commander. A soldier does not still he follows instruction. It is good to be one just follow the leader. Everything that is going on now is due to UKWA agree or object… Follow the leaders..
