Government is to construct one thousand housing units and a shopping complex at a cost of 140 billion Kwacha in Mumbwa district.

Council Secretary Aaron Kamalondo has told ZANIS in an interview in Mumbwa that the proposed plan has already been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing.

Mr. Kamalondo has disclosed that Chiefs Mumba and Moono have agreed to release part of the land along the Lusaka- Mongu road where the housing units and a shopping mall will be constructed.

He says although people have settled in the area, the settlers will be given the option to either stay there or vacate the place

Mr. Kamalondo has added that those who wish to remain will do so on condition that they build modern and permanent structures in line with the plans of the council.

The Council Secretary disclosed that those who will opt to leave the area will be compensated with 20 by 50 kilogramme pockets of Cement and 20 roofing sheets among others.

    50 x K60,000/ bag cement = K3,000,000
    20 x K70,000/ iron sheet = K 1,400,000

    = K4,400,000 = US900 in Compensation.
    Those Mumbwa-Mumbwa will accept.

in fact it 20 and not 50 like you are saying
      so you should say 20* 60,000 = 1.2m
      20*70,000=1.4m
      grand total 2.6 million kwacha
please mwebantu lets be fair surely is this what they are calling compensation.
the fact that someone is poor it doesn’t mean that they are not humans. help them to live normal lives, like normal people should.

This is not fair. How do you give 2.4 million ZMK as compensation?? its actually ridiculous. You give them 2.4m and where do they go and build?? Affected people of mumbwa don’t even accept this shit.

Hello Kamalondo, a kaonde bull from Mufumbwe. Congrats. Give the villagers 10 million each like what LUMWANA and KANSANSHI in Solwezi did. I urge the villagers not to move.

Good move but the compensation offered is peanut. Give them K20m plus. GRZ will be making more millions after they’re gone. Shanty compounds could be a thing of the past if GRZ could tell the people to either build stardardized houses or be compensated to move out of the compounds

Ba nshilimubemba naimwe mule tufwisha insoni, You live in England and you think like someone from Mumbwa. This dependence on government is not helpful at all. Government should leave the construction of Malls and houses to the private sector, they can provide loan guarantees through the banks if they want . Guess what if they build the houses, only PF sympathizers will be given access to the houses. Government this, Government that, and people have been left like Zombies depending on dull people who doesn’t know what they are doing on a given day.
