The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia today met six opposition political party presidents on the suspension of judges. The meeting took place at the MISA-Zambia offices in Lusaka.

The opposition political party leaders in attendance were Mr Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development (UPND), Sakwiba
Sikota of the United Liberal Party (ULP), Brigadier Godfrey Miyanda of the Heritage Party (HP), Charles Milupi of the Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD) and Mr Edwin Sakala the President of the Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) while Chembe Member of Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima represented the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD).

Speaking on behalf of the opposition political parties, Milupi said the contention surrounding the suspension of the three judges was that President Michael Sata was not being transparent and sincere in the entire process.

The opposition political parties supported the fight against corruption and were committed to the urgent need for genuine judicial reforms which must include all stakeholders and must be done within a framework by which the outcome is acceptable to all.

And brigadier General Miyanda said the opposition political parties had noted with concern, the media blackout of opposition leaders on controversial matters such as the suspension of judges that were of national interest.

But MISA-Zambia Chairperson Daniel Sikazwe merely appealed to the media in Zambia to be ethical and professional in their reporting especially on matters of national interest because this would allow citizens the right to access balanced information which for them to
make informed decisions.

The debate on the suspension of the judges was a matter of national interest that needed to be covered adequately and in a balanced manner to allow the citizens to make informed judgment.

Sikazwe was also grateful that the opposition political party leaders found it important to meet with MISA-Zambia. Sikazwe implored the politicians continue dialoguing with MISA-Zambia on matters that affect the country.

Sikazwe said that MISA Zambia would study the de-briefing note but would only state its position on the matters raised during the National Governing Council meeting that would be held next week.

Sikazwe also reiterated the need for media law reforms in Zambia which would guarantee true media freedom, enhance media professionalism and ethical reporting. He urged politicians to use their influence to ensure press freedom in Zambia.

  1. Zambia will not be the first to put these kind of judges through this process. There is nothing irregular about this.

  2. It seems these opposition Leaders are becoming desperate now! They are meeting almost all organisation to get sympathy! And it seem no one is interested in their nonsense!! We want to know whats been going on in our judiciary!!

  3. why are people so worried about the tribunal. Innocent People are languishing because someone used money to win cases. Let us wait for the findings.

  4. I STRONGLY URGE AND ENCOURAGE THE PF GRZ TO SORT OUT CORRUPTION AND INERTIA IN ALL GOVERNMENT SYSTEMS AND OVER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE AND QUICKLY COME BACK TO DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES. AND ONE OF THE METHODS IS LIKE WHAT THEY HAVE ALREADY DONE-SUSPENDING THE JUDGES AND QUICKLY DISPOSING OFF ALL CASES OF CORRUPTION AND RELATED WRONG DOINGS ON THOSE INTRUSTED WITH RESPONSIBILITY IN ALL LEVELS OF MANAGEMENT. FOR ME IN FACT THE GVT HAS WASTED A LOT OF TIME IN TRYING TO SHOW THE BIG BROTHER THAT THEY ARE ALSO DEMOCRATIC BY LETTING WRONG DOERS LOOSELY WALKING FREELY FOR A LONG TIME…

  5. …EVEN IN WESTERN COUNTRIES THOSE ARE THE THINGS NEW GVTs DEAL WITH AND QUICKLY GET BACK TO THEIR DEVELOPMENTAL AGENDA- DEALING WITH WRONG DOERS. ITS A SIMPLE PRINCIPAL-JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED. THERES JUST OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE AGAINST MOST OF THE PREVIOUS GVT LEADERS INCLUDING RB TO WASTE TIME. IN WASTING TIME PEOPLE START TO SYMPHATHISE WITH WRONG DOERS BECAUSE WRONG DOERS DO WRONG THINGS WITH PEOPLE IN THE SOCIETY. AND ITS THOSE PEOPLE IN ORDER TO PROTECT THEIR INTERESTS, WHO START SYMPHATHISING WITH WRONG DOERS…

  6. …SO THAT THEY ARE NOT ALSO IMPLICATED IN WRONG DOING AND PROBABLY PROSECUTED AND SENTENCED TOGETHER WITH PRINCIPAL WRONG DOERS. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY WRONG DOERS STILL SERVING IN GRZ POSITIONS WHO ARE FRUSTRATING THE EFFORTS OF PF GVT TOGETHER WITH THOSE OUTSIDE WHO MAY EVEN BE IN OPPOSITION PARTIES OR OPPOSITION LEADERS THEMSELVES. THE COMMON MAN IS CRYING FOR JUDICIAL AND GOVT CLEANSING BUT YOU ARE NOT LISTENING. PLEASE, QUICKLY CLEAMSE THE GVT AND GET BACK TO YOUR DEVELOPMENTAL AGENDA. U LL NEVER DO BOTH IN 1 VEIN.

  7. If Mutembo will not be touched in this scum then it is as good as not having done anything. Anyway UKWA himself is a product of corruption so what would one expect.

    • Let us show respect to our President you will be judged by the Lord for all authority belongs to the Lord who allows leaders whether bad or good we are to honor our leaders and pray for them.Ba Sata has shown good character for trying to clean the bad system most of you are corrupt and you have been hit by the new wave of leadership viva PF

  8. This Sikazwe sounds far much mature than Roy Mwaba or is it because Sikazwe is not part of the famous clan??

  9. @Majority rule are you speaking from the Anus? Sata had too much publicity from people who had their eyes on their debts being written off

  10. This is a simple issue for the PF government. Just fire Mutembo Nchito and let him and Fred Mmembe pay back the K14 billion which they borrowed from GRZ’s DBZ. And this case will be closed.

  11. If these clueless opposition leaders, the majority of them without a single follower are serious, they would be busy dissecting the draft constitution and ensure we get one that will stand the taste of time. Instead of that, they are busy fighting to maintain corruption. Awe mwandi twanaka.

  12. Why don’t these opposition parties want the tribunal, they probably have something to fear. Continue seeking sympathy everywhere and those same people you are meeting will laugh at you tomorrow. Tribunal should be sooner than tomorrow.

  13. the opposition parties  are doing very good job of losing my support everyday, 2016 i will vote for Sata again!
