President Michael Sata warns diplomats accredited to Zambia against interfering in Zambia’s internal issues.

Time Posted: May 11, 2012 2:54 am

President Michael Sata has warned diplomats accredited to Zambia against interfering in Zambia’s internal issues. Speaking at State House when he met outgoing Canadian High Commissioner to Zambia and Tanzania Robert Orl, Mr. Sata said his government takes great exception of foreign diplomats entertaining opposition party leaders.

President Sata has since directed the ministry of foreign affairs to look into the matter. He said this when Canadian High commissioner to Zambia Robert Orr paid a courtesy call on him at statehouse to bid farewell.

President Sata commended the diplomat for not interfering in Zambia’s national affairs. Recently opposition leaders met with the EU delegation in Zambia.

And Ambassador Orl said Canada and Zambia have continued enjoying a mutual relationship that stretches from the colonial days.

He expresses happiness at his stay in Zambia and commended President Sata for his hospitality.

But Ukwa, you used to meet diplomats when you were in the opposition and you even met Hillary Clinton. What is your beef now?

…well and he (Sata) was equally questioned by then president (Banda). Or is it that you all forget so quickly? Listen, there’s always a need for any sitting President to question the intent of diplomats meeting with opposition leaders. FYI, diplomats can have an influence (negative/positive) on the internal and external policies of government. Therefore, it’s only in order for Sata to question or more like “warn” diplomats that, Zambia is an independent country and as such, can handle our own political issue without being dictated to. Therefore, NO external interference should be tolerated, period. There’s absolutely nothing
condescending about President Sata’s stance on this issue.

Anyway, and in other news, William Banda joins UPND. Lol, what a circus!

Sata used to meet with diplomats when he was in the opposition, why question it now? Hillary Clinton met him when she came and he (Sata) met the Leader of the Opposition when he came to Botswana, so what has changed?

Good to have you back LT. On the other hand, why should Ukwa suddenly stop diplomats from meeting with opposition leaders when he himself met them when he was in opposition? This man is now drunk with power and quickly turning into a dictator.

Prevarication, equivocation, double standards, drunkedness with power….take your pick.Mr Sata you cannot stop diplomats from seeing opposition members.Zambia is a democracy and it will not be practiced to your taste. If you want that then cross Victoria falls and join your comrade in repression and abuse of pwr.

I think this man is a luenatic. How can he forget where he has come from. No wonder why there is a rift between tribes in Zambia. Most of the leaders are i.d.i.o.t.i.c including the Ngambela, Mwata, Mpezeni plus more. They are all there for there personal interests. its a shame. they are killing Zambia or have killed it already with leadership style.

Why on earth these diplomats agree to move to Zambia when they are asked to is beyond me, It is punishment as a diplomat to be sent to a third world country, it does not surprise me that they would ‘interfere’ to find an excuse of going back home, I assume the people in questions are Europeans like my fiance

    Commonsense isn’t it?

    Thanks

Rupiah tried this. It did not work. Bingu of Malawi tried it. It did not work. Mugabe has tried it. His people are starving! Why are African leaders so predictable? They have an inferiority complex. He is the president. What does it matter who talks to who? Hi mandate is with the people of Zambia. Full stop.

Please you guys at LT. I kindly ask you to give prominence to this comment, or assist in any way you can. Please teach the guys at Watchdog to be as professional as you are because comments which are criticle of the opposition, especially Hakainde Hichilema, or even works which question the work of the Watchdog are being deleted from their site. meaning that most comments people are reading there are stage-managed to speak against the government. You at Lusaka Times don’t operate as unprofessional as that. I feel you are duty bound to correct your fellow media people if you see that they are becoming as embarrassment to themselves and most importantly to the profession. My complaint is shared by many who on a daily basis are having their comments deleted just because they criticise under5

May be Sata’s meetings with diplomats when he was an opposition leader undermined RB so he fears the same game is being played on him. The guilty are always afraid.

It is Mr. Sata who is not supposed to interfere with the diplomats and not vice versa. You screw the Americans or the British then you are doomed. You will suffer a heart attack. As Bingu!

Zambia is not a colony of the EU. Opposition leaders who had the meeting with the European Delegation in Zambia are selling the sovereignty of the country.

OMG – and this is just about 7 and half months after being elected into government. By the time this sick and insane so-called president has clocked 4 years in power, Zambia will be like the Bay of Pigs. This is the most i.d.i.o.t.i.c government in the world right now. Good luck to all of you who voted for him and hope you vote for him again in 2016. Can you imagine what other countries are thinking of you Zambians right now, for voting a cretin into power? No wonder South Africa does not want to have anything to do with Zambia anymore.

sick and insane cretin of a so-called president. I feel sorry for him and all those bunkums who voted for him and who are now dying in big numbers because hospitals don’t have drugs while the cretin president is busy protecting his massively corrupt government and cadres. We told you not to vote him in, you thought you are clever. You see now? I can tell you the truth hat many of you who voted for him will be lucky to see the next elections because of the way things are going with massive corruption, tribalism, nepotism, and completely nothing going on with the economy apart from the very few projects which Rupiah left behind. Good luck to all of you and I hope you vote for Sata again in 2016 – if you will reach there.
