MMD race is between Dr. Mumba and Mutati says Dr. Simutanyi

Share

Politic Analyst Neo Simutanyi says the race for the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) presidency is between former Zambian envoy to Canada Nevers Mumba and former cabinet minster Felix Mutati.

In an interview with Qfm News in Lusaka today, Dr. Simutanyi observed that the two candidates seem to have the attributes that the general MMD membership is looking for.

He stated that while all aspiring candidates have necessary qualifications to lead the party, the MMD needs a fearless and charismatic leader who is capable of providing checks and balances to the ruling Patriotic Front.

The political analyst added that the former ruling party should also elect a leader who appeals to all Zambians across the country and can easily be sold to the electorate.

Seven MMD presidential aspiring candidates yesterday successfully filed their nomination papers at the party’s secretariat with all of them pledging to fight corruption and to ensure that the party bounces back in power in the next general elections.

Former Vice president Enock Kanvindele was the first to file his nomination papers around 12.30 hours and was followed by the former deputy minister in the Ministry of Community Development Moses Muteteka.

Former Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao who reached at the secretariat at 13.30 hours also filed his nomination papers.

The rest were all out of Lusaka conducting campaigns ahead of the convention whose outcome would determine who would be at the helm of the former ruling party.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Kabinga Pande was represented by MMD’s Lusaka Vice chairlady Esther Malisawa, former Commerce Minister Felixs
Mutati by Sande Chilufya Chanda while Former ambassador to Canada Nevers Mumba was represented by Muhabi Lungu.

Former Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane who was the last to file his nomination papers was being represented by his wife Mate.

The MMD goes to the convention on May 25 this year.

Meanwhile, Dr. Simutanyi has charged that the appointment of a tribunal by President Michael Sata to probe the alleged professional misconduct by the three suspended justices is within his constitutional powers.

He said it is only through the tribunal that the three Judges can clear their names of the allegations leveled against them.

Dr. Simutanyi has also explained that it is still possible to apply for judicial review in the matter if the outcome of the tribunal is not accepted by either party.

    • Yes, this is the very one and the same FAKE ANALYST who predicted that Ala Bee would win.

This career liar Simutanyi made himself irrelevant to the Zambian political context, why on earth we tolerate such imbeci!es amazes me.

Simutanyi, please go and predict how soon your wife will fall pregnant. You may have better success with that if another man doesn’t beat you to the goal. If you had even an ounce of self-respect for yourself, you wouldn’t want to make any public pronouncements until you reconciled that prediction you made about Ala Bee winning. As far as we are concerned, you are a documented liar whose credibility rating is less than ZERO. RESPECT YOURSELF and JUST SHUT THE F*&K UP

  1. Hahahahaha, when flawed men became researchers, everything was known before the actual thing occured. reason, who ever paid them more money took the position they prefered, only to be judged wrongly by the voters. Shame to the intellectuals of lies!

    • I like your last line. I like all of what you say, but the last line broadens the range of people who should check themselves.

  2. Why is he campaigning for these two of the worst of the candidates. Nevers is a self-proclaimed pastor and Mutati’s image ruined a s a PF mole. Fresh blood needed in MMD. Tired of these let-downs

  3. I dont trust Simutanyi! This man embarassed the academic world by conducting an opinion poll which was not based on empirically verifiable facts! I hope he has completed his Phd!

  4. #9 HH cannot be challenged by anyone. If William Banda, dares HH,he will go faster than he went to UPND.HH is UPND and UPND is HH.He is wamuyayaya.

  5. Interesting that people are still crying for fresh blod. But where are the fresh blood. Let them come out and convince voters to vote for them. That’s democracy, isn’t it?

Sata came out and convinced voters to vote for him. Look, he’s in State House. That’s how democracy works. The winner is not neccessarily the most capable. But the one who is available and is ready to put in a good shift campaigning.

  6. Nevers is likely to beat Mutati. However, teh two can make a formidable force. Like Nevers for President and Mutati for Vice President. Musokotwane can be Finance Minister. His record is among the best Zambia’s had.

Sata and Pf are scared of Nevers, going by the amount of attention they have given him. So MMd will do well to give him teh benefit of doubt. Certainly he’s not been stable politically but people can learn. Mwanawasa came from similar situation. Even RB did quite well (compared to Sata so far).

Mumba and Mutati could give PF a good run for their money at 2016. Exciting days ahead!!

  7. Like it or not besides the ANC, MMD is the most democratic party in Southern Africa.  No other party has subjected itself to democratic election of leaders in Southern Africa apart from the ANC and MMD. With a good vision and leadership, yours if for the taking in 2016 if not earlier. The people have seen the current emperor with out clothes

  8. Yaaa……………!!! All Bembas! Why…mwe Lesa!!! Then we are better of with King Cobra.

  9. Kanawa kamokene said RB would win in the 2011 elections. Unlike TB Joshua, Neo Simutayni is a false prophet!

  10. I support Bishop Dr. Nevers S. Mumba BA Theology, MA Phil & PHD Phil. Viva another mu Bemba. I love Bembas because they are level headed.Unlike ba under5 and the rest.

    • So the rest of us that actually put a person at state house are not level headed. Wait for 2016, we might just elect HH, to cause you chikonko.

  11. After the false pridiction on RB, I will think twice to believe this one. But whatever the results, the new Leader has a lot to do, to win Votes.

  12. Grab the keyboards from all bloggers,I will let you finish, this is crap!Where is Mushota when you need her?

  13. HOW MUCH HAVE THEY PAID TO LIE…THIS ABOUT DELEGATES WHO KNOW MUMBA AND MUTATI WELL??? YOU WANT TO KILL MMD

  14. I feel Dr Simuntanyi is fack and he is good at facking results.I strongly feel Its Dr Situmbeko Musokwatwani.

The man is capeble of leading MMD to greater hights go Dr Musokwani Go and may the GOD lord bless amen.

  15. Mutati is awaiting prosecution for his shady deals when he was at ZESCO. World Bank report coming out soon. Please keep on supporting criminals.

Nevers Mumba is a non-entity both in and out of MMD.

MMD have not dealt with corruption in their ranks adequately and it is biting and chewing them in the arse. No point in pretending and sweeping things under the carpet.

Fresh clean leaders needed. None in sight.

  16. Former Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane who
was the last to file his nomination papers was being represented by his wife Mate.

What is meant by wife mate?

    • It means Mate is her name. It is a Lozi name pronounced as MaTe not the English word mate for friend

  17. mutati may have his short falls but i really feel the man is level headed, hsa quite a good standing in society. To me, he makes a better candidate than our fallen pastor who i think shod go back to the pulpit. Mumba was an evangelist that Zambia has produced. He should reclaim his anoiting.

  18. Is this it? Very Sad state of affairs, one is failed Pastor turned politician and the other is a corrupt  womaniser only in Africa do we tolerate this. These chaps have so many skeletons in their closets that in any part of the world they wouldn’t even stand as councillor.

    • why should they want to be counsellor when Mutati has won his guaranteed seat in Lunte like 3 times? and the petition too…?? Oh… get it, just barking as usual!!!!

  19. This is the same Neo Simutanyi who predicted that RB would win….and when challenged by other scientists he failed to explain his methodology. He is dodgy guy whose credentials I doubt very muich and I have absolutely no respect for him. As for the MMD presidency….I don’t think many people care what happens. We have enough problems keeping Sata’s corrupt government in check at the moment, we can’t split our attention to another party. Right now Sata is behaving like a riotous spoilt child running around making noise and breaking everything he has found…he is quite a handful. However, if MMD votes in a Bemba they are doomed. And maybe that is what PF is praying would happen, so that there is no serious challenge in 2016.

    • Simutanyi’s track record is indeed relevant here. Yes, this is the same lying arse of a fake analyst who predicted Ala Bee would win.

And he still has the audacity to lecture us?? The man is beyond useless.

  20. where are the women crying for gender let them stand also.it is their chance also to contest for mmd presidency, they are used to get positions on silver platter. mumba is not the only evangelist that zambia has produced that is a lie. we have got several engelist who have existed before, during and after mumbas time during his active period time in ministry. wheather people like it or not mumba is scooping the chance

  21. This leadership style of President Sata is characterized by some of the following traits:

suspension of election or selection process by those they serve
    suspension of most liberties
    control of media or press
    personal gain monetarily
proclamation of “I am in charge”
    rule by decree
    repression of all opponents
uses the rules when beneficial, breaks the rules at will
    cult of personality

In the 21st Century, this leadership style does not work well. It eventually ends in turmoil. Zambia needs a fearless opposition.

  22. Really, who cares? You’d think these numb-skulls calling themselves MMD would learn a lesson or two?

You’re recycling the same people that made you lose the last elections. You can not among yourselves find anyone sensible and credible enough…and it doesn’t have to be Jesus, but anyone other than these two? Well, you’re yet again setting yourselves up for failure and for your party (MMD), that is surely inevitable.

May the WORST man win. Next please….

  23. Oho, @ #28…CNC, so Musokotwane’s wife’s name is actually Mate…as in, ba Ma-teh and not mate as in pal or friend? Hahahaha, I almost didn’t catch that one. That was a doozy!

  24. Musokotwane is not serious…how can his send his wife mate…kekeke # 28 its the name…Lozi name MATE…read it in nyanga or bemba or Lozi not chizungu…yabaaa!

    • There was a squad waiting and ready to clobber Musokotwane, so he stayed away.

They want to know what he did with campaign monies.

  25.  I wouldn’t entrust any of these crooks with my nephew’s cookie jar, You should see the documentary: When China met Africa;  Mutati was in it when he was Commerce minister on tour in China….in one clip it showed him with an unnamed casually dressed Zambian Chief offering to sell his land to the Chinese investors to the point of boasting that size is not issue as paper work would be done right there on the spot.

    youtube.com/watch?v=PA9w3eVGJS8

  26. Nevers Mumba is winning this one. He is the only one vocal enough to stand up to Sata and PF. Mutati has been too quiet. It seems Mutati is more a technocrat than a politician. he’s like Situmbeko.

What MMD need to do is to Have Mumba as President and Mutati and Situmbeko around him. Kavindele should retire.

    • And who cheated you that this is about confrintational ability?

It is about what the partties can deliver to the Zambian people.

  27. Apparently, they believe they have a dream…pwahahaha. Anyway….

And in other news: RB heads to Lesotho for another international assignment. =d>

  28. Felix Mutati is winning because he has a loyal membership base which nevers will find very difficult to move. MMD structures feel nevers smells inconsistency and desperation. Guranteed, this is mutati’s race. I was in western province and mutati is expected to do better than situmbeko in his own bedroom.

  29. Mutati can appeal to zambians across the board and MMD should elect him for President. Nevers can make a good mouth piece but his management and organizational skills are below par as evidenced from a failed church and two premature political parties he aborted before they could see the light of day.

  30. Good luck to all the candidates, if I was MMD (I am still UNIP – I know some are laughing at me already but I don’t even care) I would have voted for a candidate that has spent the last ten years on personal development the most. One who has advanced himself academically, one who has given himself the most national/international exposure, one capable of putting a winning team together and really loves Zambia. It is very likely that this election for their presidency will determine the further of our democracy which the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise really need. I hope you have by now paid your dues with the Registrar of Societies and can function as a going concern. I have a lot of respect for anyone who throws his name in the hat wanting to serve others in public service.

  31. In the words of President Bill Clinton “… public service is a noble thing to do”. In the words of President John F Kennedy “… There are risks and costs to a program of action, but they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction … Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction”. Once more, good luck to you all (Mumba, Musokotwane, Mutati, Muteteka, Simbao, Kavindele, Pande, and those to file later per your rules). Finally, in the words of President Theodore Roosevelt “… A vote is like a rifle; its usefulness depends upon the character of the user”. Good luck MMD, I hope you will make the right choice this time around, we are all counting on you as the stakes for the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise are very high.

  32. Quotable quote:- “YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WITH SOME OF THESE DOCTRATES”

By none other than the late Princess Nakatindi Nganga Wina.

  33. No 9 and no 28 guys you have made my day!!!I am still in stitches.William Banda to challenge HH is a myth.I am sure there credible candidates in UPND.Now coming to wife-mate I am just lost. This is what I love most about Zambian not those tribal cave lunnies.

  34. NEVERS MUMBA for MMD president. As much as I disagree, his being a former pastor shall makes us ever more critical of him.

  35. The selection of a leader for MMD is true democracy in its finest hour. This party remains the beacon of democracy in Africa. Players may have had short falls but the principle in MMD validates democracy. Let the best candidate be voted and embrace the rest of his coleagues to plan a strategy that would appeal to Zambians to free themselves from a tyranical govt that has taken us back 20 years. They are already shaking in their camp with effective rebattles to come from a new MMD with new blood, articulate, intelligent and visionary leadership.

  36. Ba Complexity: I can count on you to validate that but if I remember the only one ever to be democratically been chosen was FTJ (MHSRIP). Levy (MHSRIP) was awaken at night after the third term bid failed and RB was pushed through by NEC. This is actually the very first time the MMD will elect it’s Party President democratically in the last 20 years. Please prove me otherwise. In fact, the reason we have HP was because the General felt otherwise, the reason we had FDD was because the other General (MHSRIP) felt he could not take over democratically, the reason Dean (MHSRIP) formed his own party was the same and the reason we have PF and MCS in office was because of hand picking Levy. I can go on and on, please prove me otherwise … thanks a trillion

  37. Mumba, sr. you seem to have given Complexity even more credibility by saying “but if I remember the only one ever to be democratically been chosen was FTJ (MHSRIP)”. Not even the Chiluba chap was democratically elected. He too was just chosen by the founders of MMD as a spokesman and then he hijacked it mulundu wa pakamwa.

    • Being “Chosen” by a party is very different from BEING DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED!!! Which FTJ was – Don’t try to rewrite history!!! Despite his mess-up post elections, the former is embedded in history as it happened. Yes the MMD chose him, simply becoz he resonated with people & appeared to have sacrificed enough when he was ZCTU presido!!! None of the others in MMD could have pulled it off, hence the consensus!!

  38. I guess the only good thing we can try and salvage from this intra-party MMD election is the importance of the democratic process empowering the common man. Admitedly, the MMD lost this plot soon after they were ushered into power.

None of the candidates are credible or free of corruption. And those who are not free of corruption (Mutati, ZESCO kickback, Musokotwane, Kamwala bicycles and Formula 1) do not have the personal integrity to say let me not stand until I am cleared. This MMD election will be a wasted opportunity to revisit the fundamental reasons the party exists at all. Sad day for Zambian politics
