Vice President GUY SCOTT says if Zambia is not careful Zimbabwe will benefit more from the joint hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Conference.

Dr. Scott says this is because Zambia has dilapidated infrastructure, which needs to be fixed.

He says there is need to invest in infrastructure development if Zambia is to benefit fully from the joint hosting of the United Nations World Tourism Conference.

The Vice President says government will also have to address issues affecting the tourism industry such as visa charges.

He was speaking when he featured on a special programme on Radio Mosi-o-tunya in Livingstone last evening.

And Dr. Scott says there is nothing controversial about President Michael Sata inviting NAREP President Elias Chipimo Junior and FDD President Edith Nawakwi to Rio, Brazil.

And speaking on the same programme, Chongwe PF Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo said Zambia’s joint hosting of the UN World Tourism Conference will put the country on the map and create employment.

And Dr. Scott has appealed to Patriotic Front-PF party members to embrace new members who are joining the party.

Dr. Scott who is also PF party Vice President explained that there are many people who are joining the ruling party and that it is important for members to embrace them and develop Zambia together.

He was speaking when he addressed PF party members shortly after he arrived in the tourist capital Livingstone on Friday.

Dr. Scott says it is evident that the PF party is growing in Southern Province following the large crowd, which even followed him to his room.

The Vice President has also urged members to be tolerant and welcome those who had left the party.

He said members should not waste time on petty jealous and that they should work together in fixing the country.

Dr. Scott is in Livingstone to see how the tourism sector is doing and to drum up support for the PF candidate Joseph Akafumba in the Livingstone Central Parliamentary by-election slated for 5th July, 2012.

The Vice President is accompanied by his wife Charlotte and Chongwe PF Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo.

  1. He said members should not waste time on petty jealous and that they should work together in fixing the country.

the statement from VEEP is true especially that he is benefiting from a position he should not even hold since he cannot serve as an acting president.

  2. Let’s invest in infrastructure ba Veep kaili. We are ruling… What does Livingstone need? What is lacking? A cathedral, a conference hall, top notch hotels, good roads, recreation centres.

  3. Yabuta inshila ku Livingstone ba Scot. Politcs thats why someof us  nkiatwishi mwee. One of the new members is masebo herself

  4. VERY TRUE. NO ONE WOULD LIKE TO LODGE IN LIVINGSTONE LEAVING A WELL ORGANISED AND CLEAN SIDE (VIC FALLS TOWN, ZIMBABWE). UP TO THIS TIME LIVINGSTONE TOWN IS A SORRY SIGHT AND YOU CALL IT A TOURISM CAPITAL WITH SUCH FILTHY! ITS A SHAME, REALLY. LIVINGSTONE TOWN NEEDS NEW TOWN BUILDINGS AND SHOPPING MALLS, NEW MODERN ROADS, BETTER COMMUTER TRANSPORT (AND NOT THOSE DEATH-TRAP MINI BUSES). YOU DO NOT NEED FOREIGN INVESTORS FOR MOST OF THE THINGS MENTIONED ABOVE.

  5. SCOTT WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT AS GOVERNMENT, YOU KNOW VERY WELL THAT THE CONFERENCE WILL BE HELD NEXT YEAR AND WE ARE ALREADY PASSING HALF THE YEAR. PREPARATIONS WERE SUPPOSED TO START IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SIGNING CEREMONY TOOK PLACE.

  6. Dr Scott

Its because you are Chibwi’s with no plan.  You boss does not believe in tourism how do you expect to benefit.
Even you a white monkey seem to have been lost in the maize field

  7. Well it is not possible to repair the infrastructure (roads, etc) before the conefrence takes place next year. So in effect the Vice to acting President Chikwanda is telling us that Zambia will not benefit at all, regardless of what Sylvia Masebo said on the same programme!

  8. So who is Guy telling? why does he think they are in govt for? overnight we ave become a donor cuntry. then comes this dirty muzungu who talks about nonsence. if the heat is too much, let them leave the kitchen!!! CNP is busy carrying a village of relatives and here we have ashameless ceremonial Chola boy veep complaining about dilapidated buildings forgetting the nauseatting street-vending mess. we need every cent to make this a success. what srt of buffoons are these guys?

  9. MK. ulichipuba sana, if you do not have aything to say, shut your big mouth. Leave our VEEP alone and our president.

  10. This is ridiculous coming from Guy Scott. Perhaps he should cross over to the other side then.

  11. Scott is telling the truth. This is what we have been saying for a long time. RB would have at least done something unlike PF with no plan and have already failed.

  12. The Land of talk, talk it was a joke and disappointing to hear Mr.Sata in Brazil say Zambia does not need Aid but give us technology,Technology will not work in a failed state with failed basic leadership at all levels of society,This is what you need to do Balance the Budget without depending on the sharks (Western suckers) IMF,World Bank,Cut Govt and come up with a 7 years job creation plan which will accomplish two things create jobs and help build the economy

  13. As much as we need to fix infrastructure to reap from this joint conference we need to be awake to the fact that this is a one-off conference. What strategies do we have that will build long term self sustaining tourism like our east african brothers?Unlike zambia those countries have built a thriving tourist industry.Lets not look to one time conferences like this if we’re serious about attracting tourists.

  14. why does this man talk like he is still in the opposition? he should be instructing the relevant branches of government to start working on the said areas not just making statements in the media.
if the vice president can not initiate developmental projects in the country then who can?

    • The business community develop countries not the governments. But of course the government should make good policies that will attract business people like myself to invest. When we invest we develop.

  15. The way these guys come short, contradict each other, u-turn, dodge, bungle up, renege etc… on issues, and then start the cycle all over again, you would think they are in the Olympics competing for medals. It’s simply unbelievable. In particular, for a person with above-average education and exposure like Dr Scott, it is very insulting to the electorate who voted for him, to talk and play dumb and inept on developmental issues to this extent. At PhD level, he knows damn well he is supposed to plan, provide direction and leadership, and not deliberately talk like a dumb retired outsider. This is very insulting. He should learn from Mr Chikwanda, or step down. What is he good for then?

  16. Guy Scott must realise that PF is no longer in oppostion. The reason you`re in power is to work and not simply talking. This isn`t inspiring coming from the Veep.Pull up your socks bwana VP and get to work. It`s alright to keep quiet if you don`t have anything sensible to say.

  17. You guys roasting Scott. Leave him. He is telling us the truth because he is incapable of doing what needs o be done because he is regarded as a chola boy. If he was given the freedom to do what a VP is capable of doing, he can do amazing things because he has knowledge unlike the other PF cadres.

  18. Scott is right, however , he is only “rehashing” what has been known for over 30 yrs, since our Copper revenues started going down – Re-diversfying!!! Tourism is one of our greatest potentials, however, has been woefully neglected by all govts!! THE PROBLEMS have been
1] ACCESS – meaning ALL WEATHER ROADS – TARMAC!!
2] ZAMBIAN TOURISM ENTREPRENEURS – becoz of corruption, locals are unable to compete with foreign investors who are given Tax-Free periods for bringing in minimal or NO development (Which is what Scott is acknowledging!!!) have given back-handers to ministers & govt officials to gain Concessions & Operating Licenses in Parks & Hunting areas.
3] IGNORANCE OF POLITICIANS – Thinking that bringing animals to Lusaka’s doorstep is developing tourism – Hence Lusaka Park!

  19. We are good at identifying the issues/problems/areas of need e.t.c. but do not seem to have the acumen to do anything about it – even in the face of abundant resources. We are always talking about further talks to address yester years talks about the talks we held about having further talks to develop.

  20. The Taj Mahal became a UNESCO in 1983. The Taj Mahal is familiar component by white domed marble. The Taj Mahal’s construction start on 1632 and completed in around 1653. The eight wonders of the world Taj Mahal is on of them. Taj Mahal architectural beauty has never been surpassed noted by some western historians. The Mughals are built Taj Mahal’s beauty monument. Taj Mahal is built by white marbal.
