Visiting former United States president George W bush has said that Zambia is fortunate to have dedicated partners that are committed to serving lives of people, especially women. Mr. Bush also noted that health campaigns currently being spearheaded by cooperating partners in the country will not be successful unless there is commitment from government, particularly from the president and the first lady.

Speaking at the University Teaching Hospital-centre of excellence in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Bush said that Zambia is blessed to have a doctor as a first lady because she fully understands the plight of women.

The centre of excellence has since been bestowed as the African Centre of excellence for women’s cancer control with the support of the pink ribbon, red ribbon partners.

Mr. Bush, who is also patron of the pink ribbon, red ribbon campaign has donated a PRO-therapy machine to the ministry of health to help increase the number of women being screened.

[pullquote]Speaking earlier, health minister, Joseph Kasonde said that  it was embarrassing but pleasing to see former US head of state George Bush using his resources to paint a health centre, which is supposed to be done by the locals.[/pullquote]

And first lady Doctor Christine Kaseba Sata expressed confidence of the expansions of the works of the pink ribbon red ribbon partners to other parts of the country.

Speaking earlier, health minister, Joseph Kasonde said that it was embarrassing but pleasing to see former US head of state George Bush using his resources to paint a health centre, which is supposed to be done by the locals.

Meanwhile, US ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella has called on other cooperating partners to consider investing in saving lives.

Former US President George W. Bush is visiting Zambia to promote a health initiative that focuses on cervical and breast cancer prevention and treatment.

  1. Such are an example of leaders Zambia needs,, humble and leading by example not leaders who always dreaming of how they will insult the opponent once they wake up. GOD Bless you George.

    • This is Bush as former president and mind you he is not in America. Go back and look at his time as president, different picture!,

    • Ba Napapa, tuletasha bane. How many former presidents are doing what George Bush is doing? Did FTJ do that, or other African former presidents. Lets learn to appreciate even the little that peoplem like George Bush are doing. If that bit of money was given to our government to paint the same building, it would have been stolen. Ask Kapoko.

  2. , health minister, Joseph Kasonde is the one who should be embarrassed for doing nothing about it.

  3. I have always liked this man. He is the best example of a leader who is also a servant at the same time, and let us not forget that he is a good example of a decisive person.

  4. We really appreciate your help sir and we wish you and your wife good health. I hope other leaders could emulate you. Whatever people can say about you this shows your commitment to humanity.

  5. Zambia is fortunate. How? I dont trust this man and i cant be surprised if i hear that he came to check on his experiments which is being conducted using poor Zambians as speciemens! Just thinking loud anyway!

  6. I salute you George, You are a true leader??A BIG SLAP ON YOUR FACES ZAMBIAN POLITICIANS. Bring back humanism week, that you take breaks and participate in such initiatives. Embarrassing?? Zambian health Minister should be the one to be. Not just busy getting fat (IFIMAFUMO) because of laziness.

  7. Even when you were in office, you did many things behind the scenes to help improve lives in Africa. You were the first US President to host African leaders while in the Oval Office, you were the first US President to come up an initiative for duty free imports from Africa (AGOA), you fought HIV/AIDS and malaria while still in office, the list is endless. To me you are the first hero for Africa among US Presidents.

An American legend from the great State of Texas, you are; leading by example … you always do, putting your money where your mouth is and you never just talk about things, you always demonstrate them with your hands on approach … thanks a trillion, Mr. President. I would like you to leave Zambia with the Keys to the City of Lusaka. A honorary Zambian Citizen you are!!!

  8. hey dont forget ,the Bushes are here for Barrick mine and not what they doing. URANIUM in the north-west is more business they are here for. Cancer is the face they are putting on. but well done and good job .though.

  9. Georgie may have no been the sharpest tool in the kitchen cardboard but under his administration health funding to Africa increased tremendously with excellent results…unlike the others who are merely “pledgers” at talk-shops and don’t deliver.
Its a shame though that most world leaders of his stature tour the developing countries when they are out of office..remember this Texan didn’t have passport before he was President!!

  10. George did more good things to African Americans than has Obama has done to African Americans and Africans in general. Obama has put more Africans into poverty than any President has done in the history of USA.

  11. I am feeling guilty, I have never painted not even a toilet! Maybe we should bring back Humanism week so all of us (Including Key Board Warriors) can make our presence felt in society instead of just blogging and criticising.

  12. imwe bantu where are my conspiracy theorists at,something just doesnt add up here, why all of a sudden Zambia is on the Americans wanna help list Clinton, Gates,Bush with two quick trips dont just be praising!!

    • Skull and bones for sure. shud u b grateful for people coming to give ur household stuff that will shorten ur life? wake up!! dont just praise for the sake of being grateful. mukapwa ukufwa!!

    • So, you would rather these people did not come to Zambia. Want Mugabe only? What good has he done for Zambia? Cowards fear even their own shadows indeed.

    • Some of you conspiracy theorists are educated beyond your intelligence and as such see ‘things’.

The US does not need any of its former presidents for it to lay it’s hands on Zambia’s resources. Storelli, IMF, World bank, USID, Hillary and  staff are already doing a good job at that. The former presidents need to come and donate to Zambia so they can gain donations for their charity organizations, positive publicity and tax breaks on their personal wealth.

  13. Africans should emolute this white man a former usa president doing the dirty work per zed shame on our lazy people

  14. President Bush, I as a Zambian salute you Sir. I might not have been a fun of your other policies but on Africa and Health in particular you where and still are a giant in ensuring that the issue of health and the plight of Africa because and American agenda. Once Again Sir, i salute you. A lesson to our politicians and leaders, the best way to make a name for yourself is to care about people, because humanity is the reason everyone is on this planet, without people you can have all the money in the world and it means nothing.

  15. I wish our politicians would mobilize cadres to perform duties of common public good like cleaning, painting, planting trees and building, etc instead of just mobilizing for these unproductive unnecessary elections.

  16. Very few politicians would make themselves dirty for nothing. I will wait before I sing praises for Bush. I have seen these things before, and how they have ended. I am not judging Bush, am just being cautious!

  17. People, please let us learn to be thankful. George Bush is doing for us what we have not been able to do. Even if he gave us or our govt the same money to paint the same building, we will steal it and pocket it. that is how bad we can be. Ask Kapoko.

We would rather globe trot than paint a clinic.

Thank God for George Bush, his wife and all other people of like mind, for what they are doing to make life better for poor people. May God bless them abundantly and with good health. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN!

  18. #24 Jack

How many toilets have our own leaders painted in Zambia? Tuletasha.

We are masters at wasting the little resources we have. It is not that we cannot do what Bush is doing. We just do not care about our poor people. We would rather go abroad for medical treatment than build a hospital locally. We would rather globe trot than build a school. we would rather engineer by-elections than build a bridge. We’d rather we appoint relatives into positions they dont qualify for than have the office effectively operate for the good of everyone else.

Is it capitalists we are talking about?

  19. George Bush is a war criminal. he has the blood of millions in his hands. Shame on Zambia for habouring him and calling him exemplary. Shame on all who take him for a hero

  20. I love your statesmanship George Bush! You are such a great man! You are awesome! God bless George Bush1

When others are going to Bahamas for Holidays you choose to come and help and contribute to the poor!

  21. ##26 butler from Zimbabwe, yeah Zim and proud

You are a Moron Chimpanzee! You will end up being taken to the International Criminal Court together with Mugabe your relative!

Mugabe is the war criminal. Mugabe has the blood of millions of people of Matebeleland (1980) and 2008 election violence. Shame on you for condemning innocent George Bush. Shame on you who Mugabe for a hero in Zimbabwe!

  22. ##24 Jack Lianda Chileshe,

What do you mean? Even China and Russia who believed in Communism abandoned it for Capitalism ans because of Capitalism China and Russia and among the fastest growing Economies in the World and they will outgrow the USA at some point!

So if George Bush tells to do something do and follow it! Don’t follow what Mugabe tells you to do because he is power hungry!

  23. :xwishing you a fab birthday on the 6th George but for today enjoy (4th of july fireworks) by kelis:”>

  24. ##24 Jack Lianda Chileshe,

What do you mean? Even China and Russia who believed in Communism abandoned it for Capitalism and because of Capitalism China and Russia and among the fastest growing Economies in the World and they will outgrow the USA at some point!

  26. ##13 1984,

    There you go again!

That is the problem with so called christians like you they are full of false conspiracies that does not exist!

I feel sorry for you because you live a life of fear of the unknown! Come over here and learn to live in reality and not the spiritual that does not exist!

  27. Skull & Bones, Freemasons, Illuminati are behind GWB.This world is enroute to a New World Order and the forces behind this are way ahead of most of you keyboard warriors.Ready or Not the Papacy is taking over this world as we know it.Mind you we have an illuminati at state house.

  28. Bush is here for money, not painting the toilets and clinics. all this is just cover up, his actual interest is Barrick mine and supply of cancer medicine. in the next 5 yrs, he will make alot of money out of Zambia

  29. former president george bush, why do you gutys address him as president while rupiah banda as former????

    • Because under US politics, a former president carries the title of “President” to his grave even after leaving office. We don’t address them as “former president”  but as President Bush, President Clinton, President Reagan, President Carter, President Nixon, President Kennedy … all the way to President Washington. And their prefix is a capital “P” not small “p” for President.

  30. former president george bush, why do you guys address him as president while rupiah banda as former????

    • Because under US politics, a former president carries the title of “President” to his grave even after leaving office. We don’t address them as “former president”  but as President Bush, President Clinton, President Reagan, President Carter, President Nixon, President Kennedy … all the way to President Washington. And their prefix is a capital “P” not small “p” for President.

      Hope that helps.

  31. you all are busy saying thank you thank you, what have you done for your country or what are going to contribute to zambia.you should have been the ones going back home to paint the toilets and clinics.well good on you GB mate

  32. Criminal what do you want in Zambia perhaps he is looking for chemical ali.maybe he is trying to to dig a hole to mugabes palace. you shall be bewitched my friend mugabe is a wizard.

  33. #33 SHAKA OZ – Woe unto you that have eyes but cant see, ears but cant hear. Not everything happens by accident in the political world, everything has been carefully planned out.The spiritual control the geopolitics today.Continue hopping in darkness at your own peril.

  34. Sata should be working along side the president of USA – where is he? Ata se no diplomacy whatsoever… ati president of Zambia – villager of Zambia PF. This Sata should be taught respect

    • just comment on the subject at hand ,not talking about Sata like that iwe.i do not support Pf but i see no reason for that Nawa Kaoma.you should get your head checked ASP.

  35. In America once a president always a president – that is why his still called President G Bush… Not Banda and KK Go back to school and read somemore – foolish people…! your president is stealing from you and going around the world begging for funds when these materials can be obtained in Zambia. Prsident Bush did not carry paint and brush all the from USA – Why doesn’t our government clean the street and public toilets?

  36. Its beggars belief that our Health Minister should be embarrassed to see Georgie painting, its a big cultural difference indeed….in the West, leaders will fall all over themselves for this very opportunity;  to get their hands dirty or mingle with locals especially at Charity Project, where as in Zambia an official only arrives suited up to cut the ribbon or sign big cheques and read a boring long speech before he is ushered off in his limo. In this gov’t, ministers only get their clothes dirty from kneeling on the ground  for votes when they are campaigning for Parliamentary seats.

  37. I cannot picture Sata,RB,Mugabe ,Lubinda or any zambian minister get down and do some dirty work for the sake of zambia and her people. Its just beneath them. They want to stay clean and only do the part that feeds their ego like commission a market or ocassionaly drive a grader to start construction of a road but never the dirty work.

  38. but mwema zambyans ukulala – you think the former president of a super power can come to your country dirten himself with paint for nothing – dont you know you have uranium deposits? do you think Hilary can come for nothing? imwe sure mwe bantu imitwe sheni shili kwisa????

  39. THERE IS NO WORD OF PRAISE AND GRATITUDE I CAN SAY THAT WILL MUCH WHAT MR AND MRS BUSH ARE DOING FOR THE COMMON PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA. BUT ALL THE SAME ITS GREAT AND THEY ARE DOING IT OUT OF LOVE FOR MANKIND. THANKS VERY MUCH MR AND MRS BUSH.

  40. Some of you conspiracy theorists are educated beyond your intelligence and as such see ‘things’.

  41. How many innocent Iraqi and Afghan people died at the hands of Bush and his colleagues? What about the lives of the American soldiers who have perished in the wars started by this man are their souls less important or unfortunate? When is Bush and Blair going to be taken to the Hague for the war crimes they committed? Answers….?

  42. Ba Guy @ 38 and 39 above … Because under US politics, a former president carries the title of “President” to his grave even after leaving office. We don’t address them as “former president”  but as President Bush, President Clinton, President Reagan, President Carter, President Nixon, President Kennedy … all the way to President Washington. And their prefix is a capital “P” not small “p” for President.

Hope that answers your question, thanks a trillion.

  43. UKUSHITASHA AMA ZAMBIANS kwati balimifulamina, what is wrong with just saying thank you?? Has any of your leaders even yourselves done anything in Zambia as role models?? Sad to read such evil comments from people that behave like cults / Satanists themselves

  44. All i can read is write up from these *****s MMD and hh boys talking rubbish.
Thank you Mr Bush for your work of charity, may God bless you as you  go back to your country Sir.

  45. This is embarring !!! fools ! You should be ashamed of yourselves ! Does it have to take a person to come all the way from USA to come and paint your clinic? Gorillas? YOU REALLY DO LOVE FREE THINGS DONT YOU !!! GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND WORK 4 YOURSELVES !!!!! SHAMELESS BEASTS !!!

  46. I hope LT will save this story and its comments in the Archives, so that in the near future we can refer to it when you people start seeing the benefits America intends to get from these ‘family projects’ of Bush.

  47. Zambians are lazy chaps indeed.1 month ago stolella usa ambassoder and usa citizens were cleaning freedom way.what happened was shameful.when a white woman was picking papers a black man started throwing papers and boxes where a white woman picked dirty stuff.a white jst said how can u do such a thing?please go and pick yo dirty before we arrest u.I was ashamed.zambians want everything on da table.leaders can’t even show examples ooo they know is wearing suits.zambian people are thieves naturally.look at churches we have in zambia but stearing everywhere.what a country!dual citizenship in zambia?this country will be meeting point 4 drung dealers.please real zambians help our people.it’s we are a bit lost coz o we care is money.saving other should be a first priority.

  48. Zambia is blessed to have a doctor as a first lady because she fully understands the plight of women. well said (Mbushi)Bush. only a fool will sit back and watch the women die, wake up Dr. (1th lady)

  49. Why are there many doctors with Bemba names have you noticed, tonta awemba paka 7 years ungo ubelenga tyala! Sorry I got this from some chap who claims to be Alabis great grant nephew. Ati ba Alabi ni ba malume babataate babataate bake, manje basanza babo bamene banakwatila ati … banyina senge alandile … something like that, uko kwala ku Mutenguleni.

  50. THE SUDDEN INTEREST BY THESE TOP GUNS SHOULD MAKE ANY CLEVER PERSON SUSPICIOUS. THE DELIBERATE PICTURE TAKEN OF HIM WILL WIN OVER A LOT OF THE SHALLOW MINDED. TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ INTO WHATS HAPPENING PA ZED. SOMETHING JUST DOES NOT ADD UP. LORD HELP US

  51. Boyi ‘napapa sana’ @ 22 and 58, I agree with you 100%, ifi ciimo ciine nokupoka K10 ku Chibanda tawishibe ati chilekukongweshafye elyo tawakwata nomusango wakubweseshamo inkongole, but time to pay back comes and you must pay back or else it  takes away your life: honestly how can hyenas be humanitarian all of a sudden……….!!!

  52. Considering the crimes G W Bush committed in Iraq, it is important for him to do good works in his last days of life. There is nothing special the chap is doing, only punks can praise such criminals!

  53. This is nothing special by the American boy, these gestures are never free and it is so sad to see all you chaps getting excited about this George Sanga! The next thing you will hear is that you owe them hypocrites millions of dollars. Never trust and entertain these Americans please!

  54. Thank you Mr President Bush for having given Zambia the biggest share of the PEPFAR funds which has saved a lot of lives in this country. It is sad that President Sata may not be aware that some of the people who voted for him their lives are well preserved thanks to the help which came through this man from the America people. Yes, in other parts of the world people may have one thing or the other with Bush, but it should not be with Zambian. Just in case some people are not aware the ARVs which have saved this nation upto 60% funding is from the USA after his initiative to pass the Bill to support PEPFAR.
