Renowned Congolese Rhumba musician Fally Ipupa has urged his fellow African musicians to sing songs that will highlight the continent’s rich tradition and heritage.

Ipupa said Africa has got a lot of talented musical artists hence the need for all them to promote local traditions that will stand the taste of time.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka today, Ipupa pledged his readiness to work with other local Zambian musicians in the quest to promote the music industry.

He has also praised the Zambia National Soccer team for winning the MTN 2012 Africa Cup of Nation trophy and promised that he will dedicate one of his shows to the Chipolopolo boys.

The Congolese sensational musician is in the country to perform at the 86th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial show which is being held under the theme, “Building in today’s prosperity”.

The show opens its gates to the public today August 2nd to August 6th, 2012.

He has since called on all show-goers ton brace for more music as he samples from his latest album entitled “Power” describing Zambia as his second home.

Meanwhile, Show Society Sub-arena Chairperson Jembu Chilonga said all is set for this year’s show and urged show goers not to worry in terms of security.

Mr. Chilonga said the Show Society Organising Committee in conjunction with the Ministry of Home Affairs, has deployed police officers and other law enforcement officers to keep vigil on properties and people that would be reported missing during the show period.

President Michael Sata has invited his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe to grace this year’s show on Saturday.

  1. Cultural license and artistic freedom should make room for composers, lyricists, producers and arrangers to evolve. Some will stretch skills beyond the pre defined traditions and gain new ground and others will limit their works to what they do best. Then again some won’t know the quality or standard of their material and might make local headway but fail to create any kind of global impact. Others will get lucky. Africa is a large continent with the most ethnic groups on the planet and more rhythmical and linguistic options than most. Good on you for reaching out to those who may benefit from collaborations. Our time will come.

  2. How can africans be talented in music when they don’t even go to music schools? In zambia any chipuba can sing and make a living without seing a music classroom, kaponya’s like dalisoul, kanene, kaiche are all useless, and what help will this fally chipuba offer to us?

  3. In the first place, why are we importing entertainers? Don’t we have enough of them in Zambia?
In 2011, the Tourism Board imported Mbilia Bel to come and perform at their function. This time it is the show management importing yet another Congolese. How much will be paid to this Congoloese? Is his performance more worth than our own musicians? Why should our musicians be curtain raisers to a foreign performer in their own country?

  4. mmmmm zambians always criticising and condeming ,its cultural interacction kaili,no more comments mmmmmm nadabwa pela.

  5. mmmmmmmm zambianos always criticising and condeming.its cultural interaccion, tommorrow J.k might go and perform in congo also. mmmmmm no more comments nadabwe

  6. The headline is a bit misleading…it says “Produced” instead of “Produce”. Anyway, it’s a typo I guess. Yeah, you are right we need to be proud of our heritage in music.

  7. Ipupa is right. Congolese music is totally African and doesn’t parrot western lyrics in a stupid bid to make quick cash and blend in. It has organically evolved from traditional music iya ku mushi, imfunkutu, itumba and other tribal sounds to make a mark on the international music scene.Congo Music is a true representative of African music and all Africans should be proud of them.

  8. @ Akulu, what you are condemning is called ‘natural talent’

And yes, Fally has a lot to offer. He can sing, dance and play instruments, a talent most artists do not have even if you put them in a music class.

Some men and women are intimidated by Fally coz he can wine better than them!

  9. I notice you happen to be really are seriously excited about these types of! Were planning to construct my own, personal webpage and you simply now have forced me to by incorporating wonderful info.
