The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has joined the Catholic Church in calling on government to revoke the deportation of Catholic priest Viateur Banyangandora to Rwanda.

Party National Secretary Richard Kachingwe says the move is unfortunate and shows how intolerant the PF government has become.

Major Kachingwe said the church plays a critical role in speaking for the voiceless in the country and must not be intimidated.

He said father Banyangadora’s observations during a sermon, in which he allegedly preached that the rich in the country are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer, is a genuine comment that should not result in a deportation.

Major Kachingwe was speaking at the party secretariat in Lusaka this morning.

And MMD national treasurer Mwansa Mbulakulima has accused the PF government of not having the intentions of enacting the new constitution before the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Mbulakulima said his party has information that the PF wants to do away with 50 percent plus one threshold, the presidential running mate and the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation from the constitution.

He has therefore demanded for a clear roadmap of the constitution making process stating that it is an entitlement of every Zambian.

  1. Zambia has enough problems of its own and you are all getting heated up over a genocidal priest. No wonder the country is in its current crumbled state. You are all just so puny

    • The sitting administration can not distance itself from the “crumbling” state of affairs in the currently. It is demonstrative of the lack of leadership and direction on the part. Therefore it is the Govt that is at fault in everything that is reducing our country to a laughing stock.

  2. One priest has gotten all your nickers twisted! This country has enough problems to worry about than one genocidal priest! Zambians must laern to be patriotic so as to avoid the loss of focus for development that we are noticing!

  3. Can’t we allow this issue to the church and concentrate placing and hammering the shortcomings we observe on daily basis. We have minimum wage, promises, direction, farming season is by the corner,Zambia has alot of issues to attend to.Malaiti ayenda daily and ma roads are getting damaged with the highest number of road fatalities, where are we going. If the Gvt does not need our advice by being arrogant…leave them to fail on their own.

  4. MMD can climb up on the highest mountain in the land to join others and make as much noise as is practically possible, the Minister has clearly stated what you need to do if such calls are to be taken as sensible for any serious consideration.
In fact MMD was notorious for issuing deportation orders over tramped-up charges with no bearing to threats of peace and security to the nation.
Can MMD wise up and stop making noise please!!

    • Fr Frank Bwalya and Duffy made their noises and made clowns of themselves while matching the streets in red and no one deported them or summoned them to Police HQ for “routine questioning”. Sata included with empty tins at filling stations and the like…..

  5. Too many small frightened and tribalistic men in PF government who can not take constructive criticism; therefore cannot grow to make Zambia better in the face waning popularity. 2016 is a long way off, a change of guard is imminent in mid – stream!

  6. It seems to me that Zambia has become a Police State, what ever one says against the Govnt or let alone the President, is threatened by arrest. who are we frightening?

  7. Zambia is now constantly in reverse gear. Controversy at the expense of development is the daily PF menu. What a country!

  8. You voted for them. alas yo were warned by the wise. Now it is coming to pass. A police state for sure. THug government in place. I bet they will start searching for who is sending these comments. They are still in the 70’s and 80’s. Be careful countrymen. we are in for the worst. HH’s posse beaten. Priest deported,Employers warned. what next!!!

  9. you *****s dont grasp things at all…this bishop is wanted in rwanda for genocide cases..some catholic radio stations were implicated and this bishop escaped justice till he was discovered in zed..revoke..what revoke?let him go and answer..he is a national security threat.

    • You are a rotten egg! How does a wanted man hide as a priest in a church as a preaching in public? Your thinking stinks…

  10. I would like to be on the side of the church, but on this one it is their own creation, let them deal with the situation the best way they know.

  11. By the way what is the position of Fr Bwalya and Bishop Mpundu on this matter? Silence could mean these two are in support of the move? What motivates these two beyond tribe matters….

  12. You are fretting over the deportation of one priest, and yet thousands
of Zambian workers are being abused and labour laws flouted.
These are the issues a decent opposition party should be addressing.

  13. Im still trying to make the link between the deportation of the priest and the enacting of the constitution *CONFUSED*
