FODEP wants Kabimba to relinquish PF position

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) says new Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba should relinquish his position as PF Secretary General.

FODEP Executive Director Mcdonald Chipenzi in a statement released to QFM says it is FODEP’s strong belief that the PF constitution will be respected by not allowing the new Minister to continue holding the position of party Secretary General and that of Minister simultaneously.

Mr Chipenzi says this will also help reduce fears of politicization of the Ministry of Justice.

He adds that the newly appointed Minister of Justice has a huge task of undertaking genuine and apolitical judicial reforms and deliver a people driven and owned constitution.

He says Zambians and other stakeholders are extremely expectant of how the new Minister will handle the constitution making process especially contentious clauses such as the running mate, 50% 1 threshold for the winning presidential candidate, which clauses he personally had a lot of reservations with.

Mr Chipenzi adds that it will also be interesting to see how the new Minister will rekindle the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) processes in Zambia which currently seem to have taken a sluggish pace.

He further states that FODEP hopes Mr Kabimba will rise above partisan interests in the discharge of his ministerial duties and ensure that justice is delivered to all Zambians regardless of their party, religious, regional and tribal affiliations.

He says it is the desire of FODEP to see that Government is correctly advised on legal matters and the Judiciary operates without government interference as has so far been observed since the PF government assumed power.

Mr Chipenzi says this will help restore public confidence in the work of the judiciary and in the principle of separation of power among the three arms of Government.

  1. I think it will be in national interest if only he resigned as Pf`s secretary general. As him being Justice minister i have no problems with that.

  2. The fact is that Kabimba is a PF member and SG whether he resigns or not he remains PF. Even without holding duo positions, as Justice Mninister he can influence the constitution making process to incorporate the wishes of his Party (PF). Resigning as PF SG has little or anyway relevance to the constitution making processing.

  3. Mwebantu, Hon Wynter Kabimba is correct to hold PF and Cabinet position. What about His Excellency and his vice, have they dropped there party positions? What is the difference with SG for PF? Fodep, you have missed the plane. Dont chose to show ignorance in the public.

  4. Leaving Justice in the hands of the few and the executive arm of govt is a joke and mockery to Democracy…Kabimba MUST deliver NEW TRULY DEMOCRATIC CONSTITUTION produced by a constitution conference and enacted by parliament without govt interference ( it was a promise within 90days-Where’s it?)
Two agendas need speed for Kabimba( 1) Immediately, suspend this barbaric colonial sir Roy  “CONSTITUTION “which continues to breed bad leaders that are heartless, leaders that oppress citizens and the source of our economic exploitation. (2) More urgent too, CHANGING the “GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES and JUDICIAL SYSTEM” that has become a conduit for muzzling people’s democratic FREEDOMS, Oportunities and RIGHTS. Until this constitution is changed, Zambians will continue to fight in cycles .

  5. THE PARTY AND IT’S GOVERNMENT IS NOW WELL AND TRULY BACK WITH A VENGENCE!
Many accused RB of bringing back UNIP, BUT they did not see this coming! A Justice Minster who admires Fidel Castro, a President in cahoots with Mugabe, a government that re-nationalises industries and recognises the Secretary General as number 3, dictates salaries and commodity pricing… That sounds like UNIP to me. Is there any wonder that KK is so happy these days? Where his children failed, his ‘boy’ Sata, has succeeded.

  6. Those that want to insult me, better tell me if Kambimba’s mother is not related to our President, I will respect you even after the insults.

  7. FODEP you are dreamers, who are you to demand that our new Minister of Justice relinguish his position as Secretary General of our beloved Party. If you have nothing to say just shut up. Our Honorable Minister will only vacate the position of Secretary General of our Party when we as a Party have found a suitable replacement. Our Executive NIEC leaders can serve both in the Party and in the Government.Let me remind you we are in power.

  8. He surely qualifies as Justice Minister and he deserves the position but I also hope that he resigns his party position. If he will respect the PF constitution then we have hope that he will respect the republican constitution and the views of the people on the 50% + 1.
