Napsa Stars, Zesco United Advance in Barclays Cup

Record three time Barclays Cup winners Zesco United and debutants Napsa Stars reached the semi finals of this year’s competition after winning their respective quarterfinal matches at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on Saturday.

In the early kickoff, Napsa left it late to beat Red Arrows 1-0 thanks to an 83rd minute goal from Martin Tembo.

Arrows seemed to be the better side of the two and dominated play in both halves but poor finishing cost them a place in the last four with top striker Lubinda Mundia being the main culprit.

Meanwhile, controversial striker Lottie Phiri begun his second spell at Zesco in grand-style with a 43rd minute lone goal to help the Ndola side to beat a determined Konkola Blades 1-0 in the second quarter final match at Arthur Davies.

Zesco scored against the run of play after Blades had dominated the opening 40 minutes punctuated with neat inter-change of passes.

The Barclays Cup semi finals takes place on October 27 while the final is set for Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on November 17.
