Visiting United Kingdom Princess Anne has today visited former President Kenneth Kaunda at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

The Princess arrived at the hospital around 10:15 hours and ushered into the fast track VIP ward by the hospital’s senior management.

During the closed-door meeting Princess Anne wished Dr Kaunda well.

Briefing journalists after the visit, UTH Managing Director, Lackson Kasonka, assured that Dr Kaunda was responding well to treatment and had made steady progress in his recovery.

Dr Kasonka explained that the former president was admitted to the hospital with high temperature and suspected malaria.

He said after various investigations Dr Kaunda was suspected to have minor chest infections which he could have picked from trips he made before he was brought to the hospital.

Dr Kasonka said the high temperature is also suspected to have been picked from the environment at the funeral house.

He said when he was picked on Saturday he was weak and had high temperature but has since stabilised and the temperature has come down.

Dr Kasonka said currently the former President is being treated for suspected malaria but he is well and is expected to be discharged from hospital by the end of today or tomorrow.

He assured the nation that a team of doctors are currently doing everything possible to ensure Dr Kaunda gains his strength.

Dr Kasonka said the restrictions were made to ensure the former first President is not stressed up but rather have enough rest.

He has further thanked Zambians for their concerns about the health of Dr Kaunda and urged them to continue with prayers for his quick recovery and join the rest of the mourners in mourning his wife.

Dr Kasonka said Zambians should rest assured that Dr Kaunda is all right and making steady progress as he even watched the match between Manchester United and Liverpool.

He dismissed rumours currently speculating that the former President is very ill because of the restrictions to visitors who would want to see him.

The Royal Princess who arrived this morning is in the country to celebrate Princess Elizabeth the Second’s diamond jubilee.

Early this morning the visiting Princess called on Acting President, Alexander Chikwanda, at his office and held a closed door meeting were economic issues were discussed.

  4. Indeed. Diplomacy at work. Thought the hospital visit would be private and the other one open door but probably low key politics is best.

  5. But isn’t she also going to have a meeting with the the Vice President?
By the way UTH seems to be offering good services at least according to the picture am seeing here. I like what the Doctor said “he even watched the match between Manchester United and Liverpool”

    • My friend that is the VIP high cost department which no ordinary citizenry can go near to. Only rich and political figure have access-very unfortunate for the poor masses in our country

  6. Dr Kasonka sir, did anyone notice that the Intravenous fluids had run out and the bung was fully open posing a danger of air going through the line? Ama standards pa Zed pena awe mwandini!

  7. Oh I remember UTH medicine- every high fever is malaria lol! He was stressed and probably dehydrated after all the travelling and his wifes death don’t pump unnecessary drugs into the old man. There is a Presidential suite at UTH,as far as a I recall KK was the only one to ever use it.Perhaps thats the ward he is in now?Otherwise UTH proper doesnt look like above picture.

    • Eeh, imwe sure! I covered my face in shame and wanted to hide reading that…the whole organization, none of the proof readers/editing team picked that sure??? Ine insoni!

  8. SO UTH HAS FACILITIES FOR TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE. THIS ONE IS FIRST CLASS. AND THE ONE I KNOW IS SECOND CLASS.

THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE A REAL HOSPITAL!

THE OTHER ONE LOOKS LIKE PEOPLE SLEEPING AT KAMWALA BUS STOP.

  9. @1, ndipo chikubaba such a silly observation

@8, the world isn’t a classless society, you expect same treatment as former presido, silly boy.

    • Mushota how old are you? Did you not know that diplomatic relations and maintaining a good relationship with the UK is good for the economy and the Zambian people. Are you aware that The British High Commission has awarded scholarships to 22 talented Zambian students to undertake post-graduate studies in the UK. You are unbelievable!!

  10. #19 Mushota – what cant you believe in your eyes in this picture? Is this not the same as Gartnaval Hospital in Hyndland, just opposite your one roomed flat.

  11. The British/Commonwealth heritage is someting I am proud of and I hope the nation can endeavour to entrench many of its tenents such as civility, rule of law, culture of reading. independence of mind yet tolerable, tenacity/ never say die attitude etc. The course Zambia has taken of political violence and a culture of hard drinking, tujilijili, shake shake, lawlessness, corruption, easy money from crooked deals, filthy/no town planning is not what the British left us with.

  12. That is the very minimalest standard how EVERY BED in every public hospital in Zambia should look like.
SUSPECTED malaria? You don’t have tests to confirm this after 4 DAYS?
And is that a personal ultrasound machine?
Zambian institutions just annoy me. Ok, having said that, get well soon Mr Kaunda. Twatotela because you are using the very faicilities that you run down when you were in power.

  13. let her go to liteta leprosy  hospital not high cost zambian hospital then she can visit barotse activists in prison because her impire is  partly to blame

  14. Kasonka you are an embassarment and shame to the medical profession. What if the old man has a pulmonary embolism or MI, did anyone even do an ECG or cardiac enzymes at UTH, let alone a CTPA? His wife just died for Gods sake and he has history of recent travel. If he survives its despite m o r o n s like you kasonka .

  15. One VIP ward with a few tu ma fancy things here and there doesnt replace the culture of depravity and incompetence that surrounds the health establishment in zambia. This old fool has lives a happy life and doesnt really care what happens to him now, just like most zambians anyway.

  16. @3Mpangula: What’s wrong with Ba Mudala watching the Game?? He is in Hospital he needs something to forget abit his problems (ulindoshi??). Chililo nipamunobe? It does not mean that when you are morning you cannot watch football? Keep your foolish Analysis to yourself. The man is going through a lot. It’s not easy to lose a partner you have been with for many many years. If you come from broken families then you don’t understand what true love is. Just stay in Croatia who would care? Continue sweeping the streets, You will never be Croatian anyways.

  17. Wonderful gesture by Royal Highness Anne.
KK put Zambia on the international map.
Mention Zambia anywhere and folks will say, “President Kaunda!”
Some do not even know that there have been 4 other presidents after him!
    Great man! Get well soon!

  18. God bless you KK. May mama Betty’s soul rest in peace. Viva to you for using UTH and not flying out to SA etc. God guide and protect you always.
