President Michael Sata yesterday held private talks with his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe at the New York Place Hotel.

The president was accompanied by Foreign Affairs minister Given Lubinda, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mwaba Kasese-Bota and Finance Deputy Minister Miles Sampa. The meeting lasted for an hour.

And a governance activist Bonnie Tembo has said that Zambia has made history by becoming the first country in Africa to demand for a permanent seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

President Sata, during his address to the UN Security Council in New York demanded that Africa must have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Mr. Tembo commended President Sata for his courage and bravery to speak for the entire African continent.

He said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that most conflicts being presided over by the UN Security Council emanated from the African continent and that it was only logical therefore that Africa must have a permanent seat on the Security Council.

He said the President’s pronouncement was a good call that needed to be supported by all well meaning Zambians and Africans in general.

Mr. Tembo who is also former Anti Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) Executive Director said President Sata is on course on most of his pronouncements.

He urged Zambians to ignore people who are bent on opposing the head of state even on matters where he was right, saying such people were simply jealous.

Addressing the High-Level meeting on the Rule of Law in the General Assembly Hall in New York, President Sata urged Africans to “stand up and be counted”.

  1. Sata can not talk of rule of law . He does believe rule of law thats why his cadres can bit up opposition leaders and he is quiete. Him and Mugabe drink from the same cup

  2. Look at all this confusion, then someone calls this a govt.
Sata goes and gives parliamt a useless speech, goes 2 UN with issues which shouldn’t concern him (it was Mugabe who told him 2say it no doubt) and now, he’s having a PRIVATE meeting with a Dictator. For whattt? Bad company. Yaba.

  3. Mugabe Sata’s Role Model. He Sata claims to go look for investors when he goes abroad but look at the company his surrounding himself with delusion-ed little old Impotent Mugabe who knows maybe what there discussing about is important like BEDROOM issues nad Denying Opposition Freedom Of Speech (rallies). what can we benefit from Zimababwe surely sweets.. Internationally No one takes him Sata seriously no wonder he sort comfort in the arms of his PAL Mugabe but still they could have met back home in Africa than worst Tax money to do there chat in New York.

  6. Sata and Mugabe taking over Africa! that is a big big joke. If Yassar Arafat and Muhammar Gadaffi could not manage to take over Africa who is Sata and Mugabe? What can they do? Kusabaila fye.

  7. THOSE OF YOU CRITICAL OF THE TWO PRESIDENTS’ MEETING are probably attuned to cnn, skynews, bbc and those western media! Feeding you with the Washingston- consensus crap! There is nothing wrong with him meeting MUGABE!
The western propaganda with never tell you that African states have now turned EAST where the MIGHT SUN RISES WITHOUT CONDITIONS(China) and have done away with the colonialists, Neo-colonialist and imperialists  warmongers!

  8. Really, the first African president to raise the issue of having seats on the Security Council….?

I can understand ZANIS having its sycophantic nose up the President’s backside (and failing to fact check?) but not an “independent” NGO that claims to be against voter apathy. Rubber stamping and boot licking is not how you promote democracy!

  9. Is the Permanent seat on security council about REGIONAL or race? Which Africa did win World War II? Anyway, Armadenajad also made a similar speech as Sata.

  10. #10 AND THE OTHERS ABOVE, SATA PLANS HIS TIME. TIME TO TALK TO INVESTORS IS SPECIFICALLY SET ASIDE. HE CAN NOT JUST TALK TO ANYONE AT ANY GIVEN TIME TO COME AND INVEST IN ZAMBIA. HE FOLLOWS HIS PROGRAM. SATA AND MUGABE HAVE A VERY BIG HYDRO DAM PROJECT ALONG THE LOWER ZAMBEZI- AT ANY GIVEN OPPORTUNITY LIKE THIS ONE THEY MAY WANT TO REFRESH ON THAT. MORE OVER WE ARE NEIGHBOURS. MOST OF YOU ZAMBIANS ESPECIALLY DIASPORAS AND EDUCATED ONES DON’T HAVE BRAINS.

    • Wala Peter. More over Zimbabwe is our neighbor and a sister country to Zambia. Whats really wrong with these so called Educated Zambians. No patriotism in them, no Africanism in them either. No wonder you don’t understand what Bob stands for. He is a true African demonised by the west for standing up for his on people. Africa thats why we lag behind, too much intellectuals with out brains

    • Do you really think Mr. Mugabe is “standing up for his people” by suppressing their democratic rights, fostering violence, rigging elections, and sending Zimbabwe into an economic tailspin. If this the kind of “patriotic leadership” you wish to see from PF? Shame you and your narrow-minded, ignorant views!

    • Peter; they are called “educated fools”; bitter people who have been taught to follow what ever books say regardless of the evidence on the table. They are the are t heminority and by the look of things, Sata and his PF government will be in government for a long long time, for as long as they can perform; So you will see how these cowards will behave. Dont worry about their nasty comments, ba kolokombwa aba!!

  11. spyglass u r biggest fool ever.u don’t even knw wht goes around in de world. If i knew whre 2 find u i was going to give u a big lecture dat will change your mind set 4 ever,we don’t need ***** around us,u r so pathatic i cnt believe dis.

  12. I personally don’t see anything wrong with this meeting ,BOB is Zimbabweans problem and only they can sort it out if it really does bother them,I personally agree with the statements BoB,Ukwa, and other leaders before them have made at the UN concerning AFRICA and imbalances globally, most of you seeing a problem here equates to intellectual slavery, lumpen mentality and a lack of understanding of Africa’s issues and are scared of what the US will think about the two meeting, what are they gonna make us poorer than we already are!!Get rid of that intellectual slavery and focus on the real issue,Africa and the world needs a fair balance even if BOB,UKWA or who ever says so,”We have to stand up and be counted”,gone are the days of being spectators and bystanders!

    • O.k get out of their country. you say white-boys meanwhile you are enjoying their country. Go and insult the white-boy from your country . hipocrite

    • His lighter probably because he now has people to bath him unlike before he was scared of water probably juju instructions.

  13. Sata,Uwkwa i don’t understand why he is so much in love with Mugabe.Ukwa has also started applying Ambi to his face and jaribu thats why he is now looking lighter.Has Miles been in New York since the Euro bond meeting, thats almost a month!

  14. @ Peter, good observation. Keep it up. Some one is even talking about sim cards registration. Most countries have done that. Sorry to suggest; please visit places. A child that does not move….. Registration is for our own good. We are coping most of this things from Kenya instead of being at par. Even the mobile money transfer mode, Kenya was the first country in the world.

  15. How old is Binnie Tembo? Maybe thats the reason he is former AVAP director, total ignorance, dont they teach social studies at Chipata school of primary school teaching?

  16. But why hold private talks with Bob in NY when they could have done so in L/stone or Vic falls? You are neighbours for crying out loud!Take the opprtunity iwe CNP to hold private talks with high profile leaders whom you do not see everyday like the Obamas and the like….muletina ukulanda buga?! That is why Sata was addressing empty chairs coz no one takes him serious. He should just have handed in his written speech that embarassing himself and us like that!

  17. Dear my President, do not import some undemocratic ideas from the Wamuyaya. Wamuyaya iw well known of silencing dissenting voices such as the opposition, NGOs and media. I am afraid that he may contaminate you if you continue courting him.

  18. Africa cannot develop because of such behavior like that expressed above where we do not give respect to our elders regardless of their achievements or failures. If G.W Bush was an African, he would have been handed over to the ICC, BECAUSE OF SUCH AN AFRICAN WAY OF THINKING! God can not be with us because of these elements! Please, let us change for the good sake of our Africa and children.

  19. I just adopted the supplement always on Friday, was introduced getting doing it immediately and taking 1 single undoubtedly. since i have took one I aren’t getting that meals beginning to feel in the least. will probably be a month and I taking 8lbs and many long,in. does not just the fat decrease, and also the particular and i also find that i am more interested and am do not influenced to put things a single day besides.

  20. A platform is set in a forign country for them and others to meet(NY). Now what is wrong in them meeting abroad. Or was it in South Africa where the demand for an UN permanent seat should have been made? Till when shall Africans be made the western puppets? We do not need only the west to prosper but the whole world. Western economy is subtended on Africas minerals. Deny them control of that then watch the space, we are equal. Why has it been only African leaders whom were investigated by the ICC over the last century? Ill tell you; because africans were made believers of western colonialism hypocrity. Is it not enough yet. Every little thing by african leaders is measured in terms of the Obamas, Bushes,Clintons. What about the Mandelas,Kenyatas,Mbhekis and other prominent African leaders.
