Teachers flee schools for alleged witchcraft in Kawambwa

Share

Teachers at Alex and Muyembe Basic Schools in Kawambwa district have abandoned the two schools for fear of alleged witchcraft in the two areas.

The two schools have since remained without teachers for the past two months.

And Labour Deputy Minister Ronald Chitotela has given a seven days ultimatum to the district administration and the police in Kawambwa to resolve the witchcraft wrangle between teachers and the community at the two schools.

Mr. Chitotela made the directive when he paid a courtesy call on Kawambwa District Commissioner Ivo Mpasa in Kawambwa today.

The Labour Deputy Minister who is also Pambashe area Member of Parliament has also expressed displeasure at the unofficial departure of the teachers from the two schools.

And Kawambwa DC Ivo Mpasa said his office is working together with the District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) to resolve the alleged witchcraft issues in the area.

Mr. Mpasa also cautioned civil servants in Kawambwa district to ensure that they follow right procedures when leaving their posts in case of any anomaly.

  1. why cant the chief in the area chase those wizards out of his kingdom, lacking teachers retards development, take the witchdoctor to sort out that issue not any civil servant.

  2. Typical, every year we hear of teachers and health workers abandoning their posts in Luapula in fear of witchcraft. What do you expect when their politicians including those with PhDs are masters of the vice. Honestly people in this area should join the civilized world.

  3. This is a social-spiritual problem, which needs careful handling. My suggestion is this: Listen first to the experiences of the teachers who have alleged that that there is an occurence of witchcraft in the area. Try also to listen to the local residents about their daily experiences in the area. With this and other research methods, Pastors, Priests, and other men and women of God, can come in, if after careful discernment, they discover some traces of witchcraft in the area.A special blessing or prayer of deliverance can said/made to cleanse or win the place and people back to God. Otherwise, without proper evidence, harm can be done to innocent people if the assertions are based on fear, hearsay, or grave suspicion.

    • Wise words Chileshe! Iam still at a loss whether the vice really exists or it is peoples’s perceptions of others based on long held traditional beliefs. At primary school we used to have occasional treats of magic from various magicians that at the time appeared real and very convincing. But after regularly watching revelations of how it is done behind the scenes, I have realised that it nothing more than someone’s clever tricks. If you sit the magician down and ask how it is done, people may just realise it is not somethin worth killing someone for or be frightened. Otherwise if that really existed, it would be the best weapon to bring wealth by confusing the west into believing all their investment must be made in Zambia.

  4. So only Bembas practice witchcraft in Zambia. What a dull assertion to make. Who turned into a lion at death?, Who was Chilala the serial Killer, etc. Men please avoid tribalism guys, all people in the world practice witchcraft your tribes inclusive.

  5. Freakazoids! The teachers are just afraid to stay in the rurals. Dont let evil triumph over good, you brainwashed kafundisha

  6. Most of you guys who have commented are just as backward as these teachers. How can you even believe that Bembas or anyone can summon spirits. Magic is just trickery or illusion. Everyone knows that. The minister should just tell these fools to get back to work or risk being fired. Talk of spirits is so antediluvian and medieval. Try getting a proper education, not just degrees.

  7. ensure that they follow right procedures when leaving their posts: Iwe, ulefwaya abana babene bakafwe? Transfer yamu government iyi tekina ama years.they are right to leave.Ichikalipa chumfwa umwine.

  8. Am a bemba & has never been to my village coz of the above issue. ififyena fyalichila ku luapula.on this i cant support my tribe.
