20 Zambian students selected to study in Australia

Share

20 Zambian students have been selected by the Australian government to study in the field of agriculture at various Australian universities starting January next year.

And the Australian government will next week host a two-day preparatory workshop for the 35 Zambian masters’ level awardees in Lusaka.

The 20 Zambian students are part of the 400 selected African students of which 380 are expected to study at a Master’s level programme while 20 will study for the Doctor of philosophy PhD level.

Australian High Commissioner to Malawi, Mathew Neuhaus said in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday that scholarships are part of the “Australian Awards in Africa Program” which is aimed at delivering 1000 scholarships per year across Africa.

Mr. Neuhas added that the move to select the 400 students from Africa is also part of his government’s objective to provide high quality training to talented African professionals.

He said the training of African students will further help the professionals to contribute positively to their local and regional economies upon completion of their post graduate studies.

  1. Good. I know two of my friends who have been offered this scholarship. But what is the correct figure? 20 or 34? Or

    • PG, your mind is shallow and you will continue wallowing in the same toilet politics. This program is advertised in the newspaper and the selection is done in South Africa by the Australian Government. The Autralian govt conducts interviews in SA and on the panel, there is only one Zambian representing DHRD the rest are from Australia and other countries. Toilet politics is dangerous.

  2. Who are those students? We want to know their names…!!! Our journalists should also try to practice more sophisticated journalism by publishing the names when such a story breaks. It is just so amazing how poor our journalism standards are. Are we supposed to be happy and say thanks to God after reading a dhort story about so many Zambians being sent to Australia? Give us the names…! Is it so difficult? Come on…!! Or is thatsory meant for us to start thanking the Australian government? Please reporters strive hard to meet the sophistication of your readers. OMG…

  3. I hope that these Zambians that will be in Australia on scholarships will not go back to Zambia for a short period then return to Australia to live but dedicate their lives to help develop Zambia at least for a good number of years then if they want to return to Australia after that they can. Rather than go to Zambia for one year or two then quit there Zambian job.

    • Ene am going back in a very short while from now. I came to learn and to get ideas to help develop our country. Next year look out for the name you have seen and buy the products(they are of very high quality) and help develop our country make sure you visit our website next year. Most of these guys who come forget that they are taken overseas to learn in order to go back home to help develop our country. Instead when they come they want to return and live here or in that country forever in this case Australia. That’s not a problem but at least they should spend a good time home and contribute that which they have learnt pass it on to others then return.Notice that these are talented Professionals so its would be good for them to contribute positively back home…

I wonder why you need the names. Please remember that security is important journalists are NOT obliged to write someone’s without his/her permission. If you live in Europe, you know this system very well. Have a blessed day.. Just waiting to hear the fate of the national team in Uganda (decider for CAN -13)

  5. Kofi Annan once said “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family”. So, guys do Zambia proud, your families proud and above all do yourselves proud.
