Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi says she is not aware that President Michael Sata has intentions of appointing her to the position of Republican Vice President.
Ms Nawakwi said she has met the President on several occasions but at no time did he mention giving her a job in the Patriotic Front (PF) Government.
She said when she featured on the Sunday Interview on the Zambia National Broadcasting Services (ZNBC) Television that it is surprising that such an important office can be given to a citizen in the press.
Media reports especially on an online publication have suggested that President Sata wants to drop Vice President Guy Scott and replace him with the FDD leader.
Ms Nawakwi, however, dispelled the reports saying some people in the country were in the habit of trading rumours as a way of keeping themselves entertained.
She said there is a perception in the country that when one is in the opposition, they must do everything possible to demonstrate that those that are in Government are their enemies.
The FDD president said she does not subscribe to such kind of thinking saying it is the same line of thinking that has robbed the nation of the cost utilisation of ideas.
She said it is time that people changed the perception that when an opposition leader is seen with members of the ruling Government, then they were trying to defect.
And Ms Nawakwi said her party was still intact, and that suggestions that the party’s fortunes had dwindled under her leadership were only a perception.
She claimed that her party was still very strong despite only having one representative in parliament.

Just today, two falsehoods spread by the Zambian Watchdog have been unearthed and dismantled.
1. Prof. Luo has denied that she is resigning to take up a UN job, she says she doesnt know anythingn about it and she is working up to five year mandate. 2. Hon. Nawakwi has dispelt the Vice President rumour, again by the Zambian Watch Dog. The ZWD clearly hopes to create discontent within the PF and Government to weaken it through creating divisions, suspicions and feelings of mistrust!!!

We all know the source of that “Nawakwi for Veep” story, the ZWD…the prophets of doom! I feel sorry for the bloggers who follow that site religiously believing everything they are feed. Any logical thinking person would analyse “of what value to PF/Sata is putting Nawakwi as Veep?” surely!!! Politically Nawakwi is a spent force nor does she have the political clout to affect the political landscape by being appointed Veep. The sad thing about this online publication “ZWD” is anyone who denounces HH/UPND or says anything positive about PF Govt becomes an enemy and sooner than later “ZWD” will have a story demonizing that individual. In the view of this anti-PF Govt/Pro HH publication ZWD, Zambia is a failed state under PF and most article carried are borderline on division!Â

If you don’t like the ZWD don’t visit it thats what some people do, but surprisingly, even ministers were caught on camera browsing the ZWD. Why is Nawakwi bothered to answer to rumours -these are part of our social life, best is to ignore. I concur with you though on your point that she is a spent force.

What is not being addressed in the comments with regard the to Guy Scott is that he cannot act in the absence of the president. I believe it creates confusion and friction. Just imagine you are in a company as Director reporting to a MD and for one reason or another you cannot act when your boss is out and so the manager who is your junior has to act. Who gives orders to who. The acting president give him work and as VEEP delegates the work to acting president in capacity as Minister. the more serious issue will be if God forbids we are faced with the issue of losing a sitting president again. This is not to say we should change VEEP and far more than that it is not to say Nawakwi should be appointed
He is barred by the constitution Kafupi chiluba enacted in 1996 because his parents where british. This was meant to bar our founding father Dr Kaunda in 1996. Such are the repercussions of making a Zambian foreign like he chose to be born of british parents.

Critics, Edith has a masters degree in economics and held several ministrial positions in the MMD just like our president, Michea Sata. She’s as learned as they come. “Of what value can she bring to the government” Come on now, lets get real and I am a PF supporter but not a loyalist with blind hatred of anything non PF. This woman is one of the very few affluent and financially knowledgeable zambians. Just because she’s in opposition does not entail she cannot contribute to the well being of the country. And by the way, it was the tribal paper the ZWD that made all these insinuations about Nawakwi about the Veep gabbage. Why so much hatred against women. Micheal Sata is not going to replace Dr Guy Scott who was the first PF MP with anyone jumping onto the band wagon now.

For the life of me, I cannot see how a party that has lot 20 seats in parliament to remain with only one can still be perceived as being very strong. If the ideas that brought about this tragic state of affairs to the FDD is what Nawakwi is keen to sale to the govt, she may as well just keep them to herself, stupid cow!
