Napsa Stars Win 2012 Barclays Cup

Share

Promoted Faz Super Division side Napsa Stars are the new Barclays Cup champions after beating Power Dynamos 4-2 on post-match penalties at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola today.

The game went into penalties after ending 4-4 in extra-time in a dramatic 120 minutes of end-to-end action.

Power took the lead in the 9th minute through striker Graven Chitalu who headed-in the opener in the 9th minute to score his first of two goals on the day.

Napsa failed to get level midway through the first half when Mike Silyawve’s penalty was parried by Power goalkeeper Joshua Titima who also subsequently deflected Harry Milanzi’s rebound.

Napsa made it 1-1 after Chabusha Malumani headed in the equaliser in the 44th minute to go 1-1 into the break.

Chitalu completed his brace on 82 minute but Napsa defender Vincent Mangamu scored a rare goal deep into time added-on of the 90 minutes.

Spencer Ngalande put Napsa ahead for the first time in the game with just a minute played into extra time but Emmanuel Chimpinde put Power back on level terms four minutes later.

Power retook the lead from the penalty spot through Felix Nyaende but Ngalande completed his brace to make sure the match went to penalties a minute before the break.

Power were undone in the shootouts when Thomas Nyirenda skied his kick and Simon Bwalya’s attempt was saved to hand Napsa the 2012 Barclays Cup title.

  1. Thats how it should be in football no personal holders cups.
Zambian football is improving day by day especially on the new pitches, a sign that with good stadias, clubs in Zed can go a long way.

  2. just the names can tell you how low our zambian football has sunk ati chabusha malumani, pwahahaha! kuti aba ni player? listen to this godfrey chitalu, kaiser kalambo, bonny muma, godfrey munshya, michael musonda, wisdom chansa, kelvin mutale nomba ati simon nyaende??? pwahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. I watched the match, it was really great to see the upcoming NAPSA defeating Power Dynamos in their land Copperbelt. It was so entertaining. NAPSA has a long way to go!!!

  4. Number 2, you are still leaving in the past? Ubulimi bwakale tabutalalika umwana.
Take tym to watch zambian premier league next season and you ‘ll appreciate the talent.Do you think we won the AFCON 2012 cup by chance?

  5. Thomas Nyerenda please, you can’t finish like that. Has he ever scored a penalty? He is the one who made Zambia loose to Nigeria in the Angola Africa cup of nation.

  6. Never ever give a spot kick to Thomas Nyirenda. The guy is not confident, even his face shows that amankala na chibwibwi when confronted by a goalkeeper face to face.

  7. Where is billy Mwanza former dynamo and zambian national team defender? anybody know? congrats NAPSA, power dynamos we lost. next time will make it.

  8. those primitive zambians who still clad themselves in ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE teams t-shirts must abandon their stone age mentality and begin to support the FAZ PREMIER LEAGUE. Yesterday’s match (napsa/power) proved, Zambian soccer is more skillful tactically than the fluffing epl soccer with very poor refereeing standards. Support your own dont call yourself ” am manu, arsenal, l/pool, chelsea as if they know you there. [-(

  9. this was one of the most exciting finals played in this country and thats how it should end. The game was again spoiled by znbc commentators who once more again proved to be biased. How could they declare that the cup was going to power when the match was not yet over? Once more they were proved wrong and put to shame when napsa equalised and eventually won the cup. Mr chibamba kanyama can you please find some professional commentators to cover all sporting events in view of the coming zone 6 games to spare us the embarassment at international level.

    • good point. i ususally turn off the volume when watching football whose commentaries are run by these overzealous commentators. ma rubbish yeka yeka. bulad fulu.

  10. Lesson number 1: the indiscriminate firing of coaches does not help-Power fired Kabole for no clear reason after he steered them to important victories.

Lesson number 2: have a nice stadium does not guarantee attendance-the stadium was full, I mean full of empty seats
