Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili has said government is dedicated to improving the quality of lives of young people in the country.

Mr. Kambwili said government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sport, was committed to scaling up the provision of skills training to the youth who drop out of the school.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Nathaniel Mubukwanu at the 9th graduation ceremony for Kalingalinga Youth Resource Centre at which 346 youths graduated.

He said the PF manifesto, which government is implementing, has prioritised vocational and skills training as a prerequisite to youth empowerment.

Mr. Kambwili noted that government is investing heavily in education and skills training especially among the youth so that most of them, regardless of where they are, can have access to training.

“The Ministry of Youth and Sport has developed a policy framework whose strategies aim at mitigating the challenges the youth face,” he said.

He observed that his ministry still needs to do more in the area of providing skills training not only in Lusaka province but in the country as a whole.

He has since called on other partners to come on board and join hands with his ministry so as to mitigate the challenge faced by the youths.

Mr. Kambwili congratulated the graduates who were trained in various life-long skills that include food production, metal fabrication and Information Communication Technology (ICTs) among others courses.

He urged them to use their skills and create employment.

And Kalingalinga Resource Youth Centre Advisory Committee Chairperson Doras Chirwa said the centre focuses on job and wealth creation strategies such as entrepreneurship development.

Mrs. Chirwa stated that the graduates were now ready to compete as employees.

  1. Why waste resources on people who are not serious by dropping out? Trained without jobs? Find jobs with people who are on the streets with grade 12 certificates first
He just wants to be seen like he is a thinking minister

  2. the centre focuses on job and wealth creation strategies such as entrepreneurship……then….developments graduates to compete as employees….contradicting

  3. Yah, that sounds cool but I would suggest that our lovely peaceful Mother Zambia, the Queen of Africa, introduce a system which would allow grade 12 dropouts to re-seat exams within a the same year. The so called “lifelong skills” may come later. You Luanshya man, Kambwili how much do you get? Lets talk about money men!!!!!

  4. Lest u encourage laziness amongst the pupils.kindly focus on those who dropped out 2 yrs ago or earlier grade 7 and 9 inclusive.

  5. How come TEVETA (Technical, Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Authority) is not mentioned in this? I thought the Trainees skills will get more recognition if regulated by TEVETA so as to guide and give benchmark, and the honorable Minister’s effort will pay more dividend, or did I miss something?

  6. Like you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Minister is this for the so called cadres or every youth that has been unable to complete their education? are you sure they will be able to get jobs once they finish their training? I only ask because there are school leavers who have completed their Grade 12 successfully but have been unable to get into tertiary study. I would advise the government to initiate a problem-centered approach in decision making.

  7. “Mrs. Chirwa stated that the graduates were now ready to compete as employees.”

Yeah right. Being an employee does not only mean having some useless piece of paper. It’s also about having the right attitude and ethic. You can have all the papers you want, but if you are one motherf*****g lazo, you are a lazo. How about teaching all these youth some work culture and ethics as well.

  8. @4, NOT EVERYONE IS GONNA BE A UNIVERSITY GRADUATE. LET THEM LEARN SKILL AND IF THEY NEED OR WANT TO FURTHER UP THEIR EDUCATION THEY CAN ABLY DO SO USING THEIR FINANCES MAYBE WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THE GRZ. THEY CAN ALSO USE THEIR ACQUIRED SKILLS TO UNDERSTAND THINGS BETTER.

  9. @5,YOUTH IS YOUTH. FOCUS SHOULD BE ON YOUTH AND NOT ON WHO DROPPED OUT WHEN AND FROM WHICH GRADE.YOU STILL WANT THE SYSTEM TO FAVOUR THE ELITE? THINK B4 YOU INK.

  10. Not everyone who drops out of school is lazy. Some do it out of cir circumstances beyond their control. After all there must be hope for everyone.

  11. Dont call them schooldropouts, that is not good language respect them where ever they are, no one is better than them, they just didnt continue with school because of different reasons, no one is useless they are also zambians who can contribute at another level

  12. Kambwili should be enrolled in the programme for reasons I will not go into now but which are universally known. The bigger problem at present is lack of job creation. We have many qualified individuals and school leavers with no jobs. Our tax base is slim and economy not diversified or sophisticated at all. If govt can create jobs and also invest in core infrastructure then all will follow but if we will be just listening to dull speeches from CHIkambwili and CHInsanda then zebige ni CRY for maza Zambia!

  13. People must be encouraged to work hard, there must be a limit of qualifications for those who should be given training. This idea as much as it seems good, it will encourage laziness among the young people. We should not just get every Jim and Jack. This is why we end up with presidents who are stu pid and end up destroying the country even further! Those who do meet qualification should be sent back to school instead and only get the most hardworking who deserve further skills!

  14. education is the key to success, i left school in grade 10 didn’t mean i stopped educating myself. I have travelled to 25 countries since then and i have more money in my pocket than most graduates!

  15. There should be no school drop-outs after 40 years of independence. Every child should be guaranteed a school place up to grade 12. The so called drop-outs later on become a problem to the country. Most of them are unemployable. All they are capable of doing is joining political parties as violent cadres. We need to up the bar. Grade 12 is no big deal. Everyone should attain it as a minimum. Throwing kids on the scrap heap before this is a not only cruel but also irresponsible.
