Zambezi Portland Cement boss Ventrigilia deported

Share

ZAMBEZI Portland Cement operations director Daniela Ventriglia has been deported to Italy by the immigration department for being “a danger to the peace of the country”.

Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu declined to give details saying: “I have heard a report through media queries but I have nothing solid to say on whether he has been deported or he has been asked to put his work permit in order. If you contact me tomorrow, I will be in a position to give you the correct story.”

Zambezi Portland Cement Operations manager Mwamba Kayula confirmed that Mr Ventriglia was flown to Italy yesterday.Mr Kayula said in Ndola yesterday that Mr Ventriglia, 34, was picked up from his office in the morning and driven to Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport. He alleged that the Ministry of Home Affairs did not give reasons for the deportation of Mr Ventriglia.Daniela Ventriglia is the son of ZPC proprietor Antonio Ventrigilia.

Mr.Kayula said the deportation had affected the daily production of cement which was at 1600 tonnes of cement, and that the company would not reach the half production capacity. He appealed to the Government to rescind the decision as Mr Ventriglia was behind the success of Zambezi Portland Cement.

“This man has been operations director for the past two years, he was born in Luanshya, and we still need to continue with his good work at the company,” he said.

Mr Kayula said that Zambezi Portland Cement has a workforce of 600 employees.Copperbelt police chief Mary Tembo said in a separate interview that police were deployed to the company in the morning when confusion erupted. When word went round that Mr Ventriglia had been picked up, workers paralysed operations until police officers moved in.

“There was confusion in the morning when the workers started making noise about the deportation but the situation has returned to normal. Workers have gone back to work and police have continued to monitor the situation to ensure that peace is not disrupted,” she said.

A bitter share dispute engulfed the cement company for a large part of 2009 until 2011 between the Ventrigilias and billionaire businessman and philanthropist Dr Rajan Mahtani who is supposed to have provided the cash for expanding the company.

The deportation of Daniela Ventriglia shocked many workers at the cement plant. His father is reportedly out of the country but his two brothers and his mother are within Zambia.

  1. mr sata whats ur problem with ur government who ever had issues with mahtani now needs to pay for what,mr sata pliz spare ur name from shame, don’t follow mahtani blindly, let him deal with his problem affirmatively.am telling u sir u ll cry

  2. SATA & PF do take us for granted. Ninshi kanshi imwe.. Tomorrow mukamoneka ifipuba when this will be back mu Zambia like the Catholic priest!

  3. philanthropist Dr Rajan Mahtani

    Huh?

So I guess Times of Zambia/Daily Mail have taken on the task of re-branding the man for PF? What next, maybe a war hero, astronaut, intrepid explorer, musical virtuoso, or perhaps just a shining beacon of honesty and integrity for Africa?

Someone bring me a bucket – I think I’m going to be sick!

  4. daniela and his mother deported to italy on a 13pm plane@ ndola airport, the the father to daniela together with danielas’ brother are in south africa, otherwise the entire family was supposed to be deported. reason, the venttrigilius have not paid mahtani.

  5. “Mr.Kayula said the deportation had affected the daily production of cement which was at 1600 tonnes of cement, and that the company would not reach the half production capacity. He appealed to the Government to rescind the decision as Mr Ventriglia was behind the success of Zambezi Portland Cement.” SO, MR KAYULA YOUR COMPANY CANNOT PRODUCE WITHOUT A WHITEMAN. SO, CAN YOU GIVE US A FEW REASONS WHY THE COMPANY SHOULD RETAIN YOU IF YOU ARE JUST A PLACE HOLDER? YOU HAVE NO SHAME IN YOU, HAVEN’T YOU? SO, ALL THESE YEARS YOU LEARNT NOTHING FROM YOUR DEPORTED BOSS FOR YOU TO CONTINUE PRODUCTION?

  6. PF is a govt of *****e. Why would you summarily deport people without giving them the chance to appeal. This is not the way to run a country. Sata is very primitive. Mahtani should be very careful with the games he is playing because every dog has its day. Don’t destroy the country out of spite.

  7. “I have heard a report through media queries but I have nothing solid to say on whether he has been deported or he has been asked to put his work permit in order. If you contact me tomorrow, I will be in a position to give you the correct story.” or perhaps it may be easier to say “I m drunk, please ask me again tomorrow”
How else does one explain all these trigger happy deportations – or is it Mahtani, as we have heard in other sections of the media

  8. “The deportation has affected the daily production of cement at Zambezi Portland Cement.” Ninshi all the “PLANT” was deported ( I mean all the machinery, Land nafimbi nafimbi).

Ba operations manager give us a different excuse.

  9. Mahtani is going to run this country down. Our reputation abroad is receiving a hammering and we shall pay heavily in future because of one man’s greed and vindictiveness.

  10. This is just a case of corrupt Mahtani using his pawns in PF to fight his enemies. Mahtani wanted to steal the shares in ZPC. Now that his pawns are government, it is the perfect time to hit back. Epela.

  11. The deportations have become too much in Zambia. Mahtani must be involved in this somehow. If their was confusion about the deportation of this man at his work place it means people loved him. I wonder how the government can say he was a danger to peace. The man was born in Zambia, but it Italian? does he have Zambian permanent residency? something fishy here.

  12. Oh boy, here we go again. Isn’t this same Lungu who reversed the deportation order of that Rwandan chap?

I just wish this govvernment would get their sh1t in order for just once. I mean, I voted for PF but the sh!t some of these cabinet ministers do is just astonishing at best. It’s like some of these chaps wake up every day thinking….hmm, I wonder what I’ll do this week that will make news.

Ba ka teka please get your cabinet in order PLEASE! Think about it, how does a minister say this:
“I have heard a report through media queries but I have nothing solid to say on whether he has been deported or he has been asked to put his work permit in order. If you contact me tomorrow, I will be in a position to give you the correct story.”
    Really? Really? Really?

  13. Why don’t you deport the Ethiopians languishing in jail and serving 15yrs.is deportation reserved for the rich whites who piss of Sata’s friends like Mahtani etc.The way the country is being run is like animal farm. Some people are more equal than others.Very bad international image.I miss MMD

  14. Zambians you must love your country more than you love some crooks, would you allow the police to do their work some of you have never lived in foreighn lands to know how it feels to be away from your mother land

  15. HAHA DEPORTING A WHITEMAN BORN IN LUANSHYA. HE IS LESS ZAMBIAN THAN ANY BLACKMAN BORN IN LUANSHYA. FUNNY THAT THERE IS ALSO REVERSE RACISM

  16. This explains the reason why Lafarge has hicked the price of Cement beyond a common mans reach, so Zambezi Portland is not producing because of the absence of a Luanshya man in whitemans skin? Whats the problem with these boys at Immigration are they school leavers on on the job training?

  17. A good Indian friend told that when Mahtani comes to your house or whatever property it maybe ,hez just making sure you’ve no grass to hold on to because you have had enough time to resolve the matter in court with him already and you so he comes to check if it is really worthy it! This was 2010 two years down the road deportations implemented and yesterday i searched the net i could not find any information on mahtani ,who is mahtani and what is he ?

  18. 34 yrs old is already a director of such a big company, in a foreign country, he must be son of a mafia. Only Zambia. Immigration might be right on this one.

  19. it seems they are now getting drunk with power and have no idea what they are doing. Be reasonable in your decisions and let the due process of law be used. Deport the chinese who are de-humanising your people and stealing your copper. Stop serving your self interest.

  20. Imwe these were the same people who use beat the workers at ZPC. where on earth have you seen the company employing guys to be beating people if they cry for improved conditon of service. Deport Tony as well, n the guy who they say is the Operations Director is not even a member of EIZ. Shame

  21. So you can be born in Zambia. Your family is living in Zed but you get deported to country you have probably never spent much of your time in just because it is the country of your fore bearers? If this is the case everybody (except maybe Bantu Botatwe?) will be deported to whence their fore bearers came.

  22. we should stop hero worshipping, how can oneman affect operstions of a big company? it shows you something is wrong. he could have been born in luanshya but if he had an Italian passport then he desevres to go

  23. we tired of Sata and his gang of friends, mahtani had heart problems when Rupiah rightfully put him to task but all of a sudden his well and back to his tricks. mahtani is the one that needs deporting.

  24. As a former employee of the same company, i think its a relief to my former workmates who are still working for the same company. Those directors are cruel, and the so-called operations manager is just a body guard for the ventriglia. How can a grade 7 be operations manager?

  25. Therez nothing like sata this sata that here, Zambezi portland cement ltd, used to be the campaign centre for MMD in’s last year elections and those guys used to boast that the president and zambia as a whole are in their pockets. Lets not allow foreigner to mistreat our people as well as taking part in our politics. IT A VERY WELL COME MOVE GOVT HAS TAKEN, THERE MUST BE SANITY AND ORDER IN THIS COUNTRY, ALATWALICHULILE KULIBALYA BANTU. Ubuchenjeshi bwa nkoko pungwa tasakamana. LONG LIVE SATA, LONG LIVE PF.

  26. ZAMBIA IS A POLICE STATE PERIOD! ALL PF CADRES CAN PONTIFICATE SATA AND HIS GANG OF DESTRUCTION, BUT THE COUNTRY AT LARGE IS BLEEDING ….

  27. @SHIMINE ….  IS IT WRONG TO SUPPORT A RULING PARRTY, MMD WAS THE RULING PARTY. JUST BECAUSE YOU AND PF WANT MANTANI’S MILLIONS AND HURTING THE COUNTRY IN THE COURSE OF YOUR DESPERACY.

  28. How come there is no mention that Mr. Ventriglia was born in Zambia? He lived most of his life in Zambia then in Italy. The justification for his deportation makes no sense. How is he a danger to peace and good order of Zambia? When in fact for the past 34 years their father Antonio Ventriglia has been a successful business man, employing hundreds of Zambians in both Ndola and Lusaka. The deportation is a result of some selfish politician’s agenda to destroy this family. This is a real disgrace to Zambia. They’ve aligned themselves with the greed of one Man (Mr. Mahtani)
Concerned Zambian Citizen demanding justic for Valerio and Danielle deportation. ( Its our right to know the truth)
