All is set for the launch of the one trillion kwacha Chama- Matumbo Road Construction Works in Chinsali District of Muchinga Province by President Michael Sata on Wednesday this week.

The road construction which is one of the major projects to be undertaken in the province will create 1000 new jobs during the construction period which is expected to last for two years.

In coming Muchinga Province Minister Charles Banda told ZANIS in Chinsali today that preparations for the launch of the long awaited road which is part of the 8000 Kilometers Link Zambia Project under phase one have advanced.

Mr. Banda said the road contractor China Jiang Xi is already on site and has mobilized almost all the equipment needed to commence the works.

Mr. Banda who visited the launch site in the company of his Permanent Secretary Charles Sipapanje said he is impressed with the preparatory works which have been done so far.

And China Jiang Xi Chief Engineer Peng Xuan said his company is ready to commence the works that include construction of three bridges.

Mr. Xuan said 3 camps have been formed with one group starting from the junction of the Muyombe Lundazi Road passing through Chama Boma in order to ensure that the project is completed in time.

He said that a good number of the required equipment has since arrived with more expected to come in the next few days and will be distributed to all the 3 camps.

Meanwhile the commissioning of the US$4.1 million Shiwangandu Mini Hydro Power Station in Chinsali district by President Michael Sata has also been set for Wednesday this week.

Muchinga Provincial Minister Charles Banda who confirmed the development to ZANIS today said the Shiwangandu Mini Hydropower Station Project which was undertaken by ZESCO and its partners has been fully completed and ready for commissioning.

Mr. Banda said the Mini Hydropower Station will be powered by water from a dam made on Mansha River and will supply electricity to all the surrounding areas in Shiwangandu and others.

Shiwangandu Mini Hydro Power Station which will supply 1mega watts of electricity took 2 years to be constructed.

  1. @Nostradamus hi. Any road sofas (furniture) on this road? Men at work as we begin to see the opening up of the country by the man of action!

  2. Why is Zambia only enchanted with roads?I’m yet to hear GRZ launch or rollout of IT infrastructure in zambia like has been the norm in Kenya and Rwanda.

  3. The construction of the road is a good idea; reliable means of transport yada yada yada. But I am skeptical of the logic of building a ‘mini hydro power station’ for the following reasons:
Construction of the road is obviously to spur development which will mean growth in population.
The will suffice but with the eventual population growth, the power supply will become insufficient ,evidence by the frequent instances of load shading in towns like Lusaka. It would be more insightful, therefore, to build a power station whose output will be sufficient enough to supply power for the eventual growth in consumption.Chinsali is near lake Bangweulu which can be used as a source for a larger hydro-station to supply that region of Zambia. Zambezi & Kafue rivers can be harnessed as well.

  4. @Bizzywizzy bakalamba you are behind. RB had an urban township road project called Fast track Formula 1. MCS has the Link Zambia 8000. This is where it is desired that 8000km of road will be done in 4 years, to open up countrywide interconnectivity. Boss, currently we have the hub and spoke type of road system. From Mongu I have to go to Lusaka (hub), then connect to Solwezi. We can have a direct road from Mongu to Solwezi…

    • The roads in Western Province like Senanga-Sesheke and Mongu-Kalabo were started by RB in the aftermath of the Mongu shootings. It is actually very sad that it had to take the death of people for the Zambian government to build roads in Western Province. The people of Western Province should build a shrine to the martyrs who sacrificed themselves so that roads could be built for them.

    • Goncalves, you sound like a crying baby. complaints all the time. Why matyrs? are you sure that is why RB started that road? my take is that these are planned well in advance. RDA last month produced a table of all roads that are supposed to be worked on under link-zambia 8000.

  5. There are economic and social benefits to have having these roads. Viz; speedy movement of goods and services saving on time and energy. Good for business as we are talking efficience. For the villages along those new stretches, it means easy transport, exposure or accessibility and tourism. It means business to passersby: food, lodges, articrafts etc. We don’t have to pass through and congest Lusaka, which city we have overwhelmed and is failing to cope. Hey, and access to new districts. DECENTRALISATION!

  6. Sorry, Mr. Voodoo, Chinsali is VERY far from Lake Bangweulu. The nearest water body is Chambeshi River…just a point of correction, sir!

    • The reason I mention lake Bangweulu is becuase it’s a largeer source of water which is the source of hydro power. That said, in order to build a power plant capable of supplying power to the entire region of Northern province and perhaps Chipata in the east is makes it ideal for construction of a large hydro plant like Kariba. I did look at the map  and saw Chambeshi river but therein lies my point; it’s a river which is much smaller source of water than the hydro plant.

  7. Mumfwafye Abakali bakali.GO GO GO Mr President We are behind you. Forget about what this young men are saying.Bali Dabwa they never expected that you lead this country in prosperity. Show them.

  8. This is what we need to see – the practice of starting projects in an election year to hoodwink voters has failed (as we noticed with the dust-raising Formula 1 projects)… we must see continuous development and maintenance. That way our people will start debating more intelligently and not on things that should be matters of course.

  9. Why not a Kaoma thru Mongu to Shangombo road? We have neglected the western province and now its still more milk to the president’s tribesmen. After getting most money for schools, most senior govt positions and now this? This is just tribal.

    • Tekanya. You guys cry a lot! University at Namushakende, stadium in Mongu and most of your comments were negative towards PF, MCS and govt. What do you want?

  10. But P1 should have been Chama to Nakonde because every one is now doing business with Nakonde/TZ. We need to provide a good road for beutiful women of Chipata to go and do business in Nakonde like every one else fro CB and LSK

    • Lol. The Beautiful women of Chipata in Nakonde to do business. What kind of business needs beautiful women?

  11. PF is on course, prophets of doom and enclave leaders should know that PF will deliver to the people come 2016. that nonsense of launching projects 1 month before elections is long gone. The PF will let the projects speak for themselves rather than flooding villages and compounds with bill boards and tujili jili. The PF will transform this country and set it on a path of high economic growth, thereby creating a more prosperous nation. Viva Sata, Viva PF

  12. OUR WORKING PRESIDENT AND HIS TEAM. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR. PLEASE, KEEP INFORMING US ON THESE DEVELOPMENTS COMMENCEMENT AND FINISH TIMES. SELENI TUBOMBEKO.

    • Allow me to simplify it for you. A national grid implies a ‘interconnected supply’ in this case of electric power, which we do have , albeit an inefficient one. My suggestion still makes it possible to connect to the existing grid, however I make note of scalability. If we are indeed interested in expanding access to hydro power, does it not make sense to build bigger instead of smaller plants all over the place that will likely incur more running costs than building bigger plants capable of getting supply to more people. The current one wont be able to supply a region grater than te Eastern region. The idea is to consider population growth and plan smartly and not just build for the sake of it.

  13. #5 CAN YOU AGAIN REVISIT YOUR GEOGRAPHY? YOUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ZAMBIA IS VERY POOR. CHINSALI IS VERY FAR FROM LAKE BANGWEULU. NEXT TIME YOU GONNA ASK WHY THE ROAD APPEARS TO BE RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE. BUT B4 YOU DO JUST KNOW THAT THAT IS MUCHINGA ESCARPMENT REGION AND THEREFORE VERY MOUNTAINOUS.

    • Lusaka is very far from lake Kariba, there doesn’t seem be a problem getting supply there. Or in Kabwe, or CB.  That fact alone weakens your argument. You raise concerns regarding the landscape- very well- regarding that, I have never visited the area. Unless you’re a clairvoyant, there’s no possible way you can make the assumption as to what I will say regarding the cost of road construction. In your opinion, my knowledge of Zambia is poor, that’s arguable. I will say this though, if in your mind, the idea of constructing several small hydro dams is financially and strategically sound thats cute. When Kariba was constructed, it accounted for population, this one merely skirts the issue and is a stop gap measure.

  14. ATI MUKAIPULA BA MMD NABA UPND MU 2016? MUBEPELE FYE. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT- DEVELOPMENT, COMMENCEMENT AND FINISH TIME OF PROJECTS, PROJECTS THAT ARE NOT TRIGGERED BY ELECTION TIME, ABOVE ALL- FULFILLING THE CAMPAIGN PROMISES.

    • Every Zambian, literally, wants development. However, for a country with limited finances and a core of skilled labour that can assume roles in every aspect of development, it begs to question the method and execution of some projects and use of money. Building infrastructure must by all means be done with foresight to account for , future population, running costs, self sustainability job creation, opening areas to new trade, and so forth. Lets take for instance the order to construct a  new stadium; everyone loves soccer. The cost of the project, in the billions, the benefit, minimal compared to the need for say a proper hospital in the area. Surely, there ought to be thought behind the planning.

  15. #14 TAMWAKWATA AMANO. ARE YOU NOT THE PEOPLE WHO OBJECTING TO DISTRICT AND PROVINCE CREATION? YOU ARE SIMPLY DELAYING DEVELOPMENT WHEN YOU ADAMANTLY OBJECT TO DEVOLUTION. EVEN THE SO CALLED EDUCATED MILUPI COMPLAINED ABOUT DISTRICT-FORMATION IN WESTERN PROVINCE. WHAT A SHAME. ZAMBIA IS NOW BECOMING BETTER WITH SATA IN THE DRIVING SEAT.

  16. @22. Peter. Stop talking about stuff you do not understand. The creation of more Provinces and Districts is not the definition of Devolution. If indeed your hero Michael has implemented Devolution, can you please tell us what new statutory powers and/or any financial , administrative autonomy that he has transferred to the Districts or Provinces? And by the way Milupi was right to question whether Sata consults his cabinet when he creates these new Districts. These new Districts are not budgeted for. The previous Districts he created first have also not been funded. All Milupi was asking for was method and sanity in the way these Districts are being created because they have to be funded! You don’t announce stuff just to get some cheap political mileage.

    • Golncalves you are also behind my friend. The earlier districts to be announced have been budgeted for under the 2013 national budget. Keep crying while we work. They announce a university for Western province at Namushakende and stadium in Mongu but yopu still complaIN. what do you want?

    • There’s nothing in the yellow book concerning expenditure on Mulobezi, Chikankata and Zimba for example. Do you guys have a secret vault or budget?

  17. Is this 8000 Kilometres Link Zambia Project part funded by the Chinese gov’t..why so many Chinese companies getting the big contracts.

  18. The issue of investment in roads and why Chinese companies are getting the big contracts is based on the deal the Chinese government is striking allover with African countries. China desperately needs raw materials to fuel her robust economy and many African countries need to rebuild their infrastructure so China makes deals with African countries to build infrastructure in exchange for raw materials. In Zambia’s case development of roads, sports facilities, dams and the like are bartered for Copper and Iron Ore.
