Business in Ndola came to a stand still this morning as residents protested over the shooting of a Zambian by a Somalian businessman yesterday. The Central Business District was deserted and people in Ndeke and Masala townships were breaking into shops belonging to Somalians. Residents of Somalian origin have gone into hiding for fear of beaing lynched by irate Ndola

A Somalian based in Ndola shot dead his worker for demanding a two month salary amounting to K400,000
Holland Kabaso, 30, was shot dead around 11:30 hours at Catchpol Flats on Kopa Road near the town centre.
Omar Mohammed Hashi, also aged 30, and a business executive, has been charged with murder.

Copperbelt police chief Mary Tembo confirmed yesterday that Mr Kabaso was shot in the head and died instantly.

Ms Tembo said Hashi was arrested in Kansenshi area as he attempted to flee in a taxi and police recovered a 7.55 calibre VZOR pistol and four rounds of ammunition. An eyewitness said Hashi had driven into the premises in his BMW vehicle and asked Mr Kabaso to fetch his passport from the house.Mr Kabaso collected the passport and gave it to Hashi as he enquired about his salary but the Somali got upset and shot Mr Kabaso in both legs and the head.

In panic, Hashi drove off but later abandoned his vehicle in Kansenshi to book a taxi to Sakania border after offering to pay K2 million. But the taxi driver got suspicious and instead drove Hashi to a military Provost in Kansenshi residential area after noticing that the passenger was armed.

  1. I don`t want to sound biased but i think some of these foreigners deserves to be ill-treated.There  is no way they can continue killing our people on impulse.First it were the Chinese shooting and Killing our people. Now it is Somalians. We deserve better.

    • Mo taim you are spot on and so is the first reply to your comment. No one has a right to shoot at a person who is not threatening the other’s life…foreigner or not. We have to watch how we put across our worries…The people of Ndola have no right to riot, it is just their everyday economic frustrations coming to life and this was a push to far for them, and a chance to steal…period…just like South Africans did with their ‘foreigners’…all things being equal, sad for young man (shot three times…really??) who lost his life and am happy for the quick thinking of the cab driver but no excuse for rioting and generalizations.

  2. Perhaps we should remember what RB said after the Chinese shooting — don’t get mad at the Somolians, Zambians are shot by many different people. Tongue in cheek.

  3. koma uyu chikala, he killed someone for 400000 but offered to pay 2m to a taxi driver…what a fo0l. they should have lynched him. let him go to prison for a long time and tell the inmates what he did so that they can screw him day in day night………………

  4. I HAVE SAID WE NEED TO FORM AN ORGANIZATION , INDEPENDENT, THAT WILL DEAL
WITH SUCH PEOPLE. ONCE THEY KNOW WHAT IS IN STORE FOR THEM THEY WILL BE CAREFUL

  5. And police you are fools who dont think when doing thing. They were just firing teargas every where even were people were running for safety this brought more confusion than normalising the situation in a shortest time. And i remember now thats y former inspector general once said policemen are the dulliest people in employment.

  6. It only in Zambia where people are shot for asking for what belong to them and the perpetrators go scot free. This case after 2yrs you hear that there is no suffcient evidence. The whole system is rubbish. Why failing to K400,000.00 and then pay K2,000,000=00.Nosense

  7. cum’on Zambians, we deserve beta than this! we are said to be gud heartd pipo, but luk at the reward we get…this is unacceptable! let pipo not tek our gudness for granted!

    • No stats, but here are two US reviews:(scroll down)To hazrad a guess, I think most of Die Antwoord’s audience will probably just find it somewhere, er, non-commercial. They’re that kind of band, appealing to the internet age in many respects.

  8. Al-Shabab on our door steps: The problem we have in Zambia is poor foresight and poor resolution of problems. We will keep fire fighting all the times and we look mediocre.
    1: we have always seen Alshabab on the door step in Ndola; their kids going to their faith schools, favouritism, and organised crime;
2: They own shops, businesses and you can see their growing financial muscle being abused at corruption, extortion and technical pilfering.
3: Result: They feel invincible; and to show you their power – we kill you!! Hey; so is this when you are waking up guys to this issue?

  9. Fellow citizens some of these Somalians are connected to terrorist groups like the al-shaabab milia men. and the pirates terrorizing the gulf of eden. When they collect those huge ransoms they clean these moneys thru setting up of some front companies which operate as filling stations and transporters.
We should be very vigilant as citizens and protect our country from these foreign and heartless jihadist who do not have any wantom regards for human rights.
    Bravo taxi driver u r a hero

  10. I wonder why us zambians get to be hook up by a foreigner. That son of a stupid somalain deserves to be delt with.Becouse of corruption,he will be released. Our counntry is too corrupt stating from the head to the most poorest. But I believe one day zambians will be awake.

  11. Even poor Somalians who come to Zambia as refugees have the audacity to shoot at will! The Zambian people have to send a strong message to these foreigners, this tendency has got out of hand, the Chinese have been shooting at will and now the dogs from Somalia. NO no this is too much, do we really need these pathetic terrorists in our country? We just need to kick the Somalians out of the country, they are criminals who deserve no mercy! I’m sure they can enjoy shooting each other in Somalia! Someone remind these people that they are refugees and need to behave as they wish!

  12. Zambians always go the extra mile to serve alliens. Somalians have been ill treating Zambians for years. That is what you get for being a slave to your somali master…!

  13. I blame immigration and labour office indirect. How do you still allow people to get 200 pin salary. Some of these aliens do not even have papers but you allow it os that you can get free groceries and transport. Transfer them to somewhere rural where they will appreciate being in the ‘town’.

  14. **==Too bad for kabaso and family i blame our immigration how do these guys enter this country and the problem with us we so gullble that we do not see why foreigners come here to be rich.Look how stupid we are look who owns our emrald mines and how much tax have they contributed?

  15. I feel sad for when people get mistreated for a compensation, especially salary. Even if Kabaso was violent towards the slim Somalian, at-least he could have just broke him 1 leg and then call for help.
See now, all Somalians will leave Ndola.

  16. “In panic, Hashi drove off but later abandoned his vehicle in Kansenshi to book a taxi to Sakania border after offering to pay K2 million. But the taxi driver got suspicious and instead drove Hashi to a military Provost in Kansenshi residential area after noticing that the passenger was armed”

This taxi driver should be thanked for his role. He’s a true hero.

Noti ifi fi kapokola fyesu nga fyachilanda ti, tatukweta tilansipoti. Epulogulamu iyi!

  17. It is time as Zambians we stood up, Somalians come from a warlord state. We are Christians, but cock your nines, 45s, riffles and mpembela nsokeles. The day for being friendly Zambians has officially come to an end.

  18. ISLAM is evil, I don’t care what you moderate and dum Zambians think it’s time we forgot our political affiliations and stand up for Zambia.

  19. This is a tragedy committed by one person not by whole community of Somalis. Somali community has been part of Zambians for a long time. The people of Zambia should calm down and react with reason. The brutal actions of one individual should not be held the Somalis accountable. Second, The Zambian people should not forget those who stood by them when they were fighting for INDEPENDENCE!

  20. Number 33 the ones that stood with us for independence are long gone, the new Somalis have some serious Al-kaeda issues. Weed out the terrorists from among you then.

  21. The many foreigners that are in Zambia are attracted by conduceve (is it weak) laws that enable them do what Zambians themselves can not do. As foreigners are allowed to buy Zambian land when Zambians are denied due to immoral perception of greed for money. The entire area along Great North Road to Kabwe and beyond is mostly owened by Somalis. These have a religious belief that any non believer to their faith is fit to die. Omar just practiced what he believes and practices. Victim is Zambian due to weak laws and leaders prides in them. When a new govt comes into power that position will be reversed. One Zambian soul is lost needlessly.

  22. Ndola residents, job well done for protesting. This sends a clear message to the decision makers that when people complain, something must be done to correct the situation. As for the Taxi Driver, I say “Congratulations and keep up the good work”. Back to the Ndola residents, if for sure you are happy with what the Taxi Driver did, set up a fund raiser for Holland Kabaso and have the Taxi Driver hand over the fund to the family of Holland. My condolences go to Holland’s family on the loss they have suffered. May his soul rest in peace. Let’s put pressure on the immigration department to see to it that they screen ALL Somalis in the country and immediately deport those without proper papers. There should be no exception. One Zambia One Nation.

  23. If this case goes unpursued without the utmost punishment it deserves then the judicial system is but just a huge joke!! We can not rise to kill another man to pay up for the lost but we must confide and be protected by the same justice we have put in place!! Or should others be above the law as history aligns the events??!!!

  24. Zambians are too sleep and unpatriotic. l always say they are plastics. l even wonder where such a hero came from. U have allowed if ma muslism to grow in our country and that ‘s a wake up call. That’s just on the ice beg.

  25. Zambia , a country of plastic like human beings. When i have travelled out i fear a fellow Zambian more than foreigners. full Juda Esariots especially de so called educated ones. 4 instance is it an educated that mans our boarders? HYPOCRITES!

  26. Netherlands or is Holland was one of those rare honest bembas, who decided to earn his living.

Chaipa Netherlands mwe, ankhaleko kaboyi ku mayadi, wamupaya mu wemba pali 400 pin.

  27. That’s why this country needs a more stronger President who can’t torelate demagogues like hh and Sekwila nd Laz with deir Oasis watever. Zambia must b respected by o . Not ifya kuchensafye ati Zedians are peacefull fyakontola nemikosh like Zombis

  28. I don’t think in SA that murderor would have done that. Alas Zedians when they see a foreigner ninshi fyapena. lt is not poverty bupuba with weak minds that are ready to sell the country at anytime. Zambians die 4 yo country. lt is not about Sata.

  29. From 2day onwards lets start screening all Somalis without fear or favour. All thoz found wanting should b deported. And the other step the powers that be should take is 2 bring honest and new pipo at the immigration.

  30. What do you expect from people who fight every day in their country? We are tolerant in Zambia that’s why even hopeless chaps like Somalians can take advantage to start killing poor innocent Zambians! Let’s hope he will not just be acquitted after bribing some people. Let the law take it’s course. Congrats to that vigilant driver

  31. why does this nation called zambia respects foreign rejects so much? These mulamus, sisters, brothers, uncles of late osama bin laden (somalians) shud ne made to pay heavyly for hollands life. Any police officer or politician that ll be bribed to sweep this isue under the carpet must meet same fate as this filthy al shaabab murderer

  32. Such barbaric xenophobic behaviour is  uncalled for and some of posts on here are frankly disgusting and in bad taste…the man who shot his Zambian worker was apprehended and the law is will deal with him; those people have no justifiable reason to loot and attack every Somali national on the street. You are only a Christian nation when it suits you…trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view and demand that they respect yours.

  33. I hate these Somalians, during the time of Zamtan transportation company, they where really silly drivers who didn’t want anyone over take their slow moving truck. And that’s how they killed my uncle near Twapia  in Ndola in 1980 as my uncle was overtaking, he served towards my uncles VW and hes lost control., died on the sport.

    • It’s not true, we are not criminals nor do we threat our Zambia brothers and sisters harshly. I believe that most of Somali people in Zambia deal with their workers in respect and good manner. I am very disgusted with the action the Zambians took towards the Somali People in Ndola, despite the stupidity of what one Somali individual person done and the horrific crime he is committed,  Mr Ngulutu, please be careful what you say

  34. its very tragedy wht hapend in zanbia however
Why most of zanbian act stuidly you guys need
To educate your ppl. 90 percent of zanbian
Never go any other counry & they dont now
Anything but hate. Dont for get these
you called forenger are smart people no matter
Wht u said to them they dont need ugly ppl like
You u need to go back 60

  35. Not being Xenophobic but the Zambian Government has to control entry of some nationalities in to Zambia. Indians, Somalians, Pakistanis will bring no Good but problems?? Have you ever seen a native African with Indian nationality? See what’s happening in Kenya? Watch out Zambians and let us control these people.
Let him be hanged or Killed slowly by amputating his Body parts to let his fellow somalians learn from it.

  36. AND YOU EVEN WANT DUAL CITIZENSHIP IN ZAMBIA? LET THERE BE DUAL CITIZENSHIP AND SEE HOW MANY FOREIGNERS SWAMP ZAMBIA AND HOW MANY ZAMBIANS WILL BE SHOT IN A SIMILAR MANNER.

    • Man, that watch Imbwa is useless. Dont even waste your time to go there. They are a bunch of bitter, frustrated and hating people. They behave as if they are no Zambians..Shaaaa.

  37. Immigration department should swing into action and invade Chaisa, Matero & parts of Emmasdale deport the Somalis( 90% are in Zambia illegally).Ministry of labour check those block yards Zambians are physically whipped and poorly remunerated.

  38. i cant believe the xenophobic and fascist people on this forum. With this kind of ignorant views, you will just fall from one problem to another. Not once has any one inquire or talked about the victims family. All they can see is a ‘Foreigner’ what ever that term is. If the same person was killed by a Mr Banda, none of these people who commented would bat an eye lid or even pay any attention.

  39. I am very sad and upset for what happen in Zambia specially the meaningless and horrible death to the poor Zambia worker and my condolences to his family, relatives, friends and anyone who knew the deceased. I am British born Somali origin who has been working in Zambia for the last 4 years as an investor. I have invested more than 1 million dollars in Zambia and my business still exists and my company directly employs over 25 Zambian workers.
It’s one of the Islamic laws or pillars and to pay workers ASAP and I believe that as good Muslim that you have to pay your worker just before the month ends. This is always been my procedure and is the procedure of most of the Somalis I have known which is either invested in Zambia or around world.

  40. Most of the Somali investors are either been living in Zambia long time (over 60 years) or they are from Europe or North America. Most of us (over 99% of the Somali investors) brought their initial investment which is 100 million of dollars with them to Zambia and did not make this fortune in Zambia. Due to civil war in Somalia for last 21 years made Zambia to become the chosen spot to invest in Africa.
It’s not true, we are not criminals nor do we threat our Zambia brothers and sisters harshly. I believe that most of Somali people in Zambia deal with their workers in respect and good manner. I am very disgusted with the action the Zambians took towards the Somali People in Ndola, despite the stupidity of what one Somali individual person done and the horrific crime he is committed.

  41. On my personal knowledge I have been working/employing Zambians for the past 4 years, I rate them number in African in terms of education and attitude towards work ethic.  I can’t believe this civilized people can take this kind of actions it’s unbelievable and very impressing towards the Zambian nations.
I believe that the crime one person commuted can’t be punished to other good Somali citizens, it not right and not acceptable. Despite our origin, most of us are British, America and Canadian citizens and our wright, lives and fortune/assets is protected by one of the world super powers nations.

  42. First of all, how did we end up with such a big population of Somalians????? How did they come to Zambia? I don’t care what people say, ther resality is Somalians are a problem even in their own country which they can’t get organised for decades. Somalia is the only failed state on earth…they go round spreading their twisted minds with their warped interpretation of the Koran. Look at the problems Kenya is in right now —- it’s all about Somalians. If they want to be liked they should change, otherwise very soon they will not be welcomed into any country. They are terrible human beings, no wonder they can’t even run their own country and they think that life is all about guns and killing each other. The looters in Ndola have taught Somalis a lesson – next time they will think first.
