President Michael Sata has responded to the statement issued by the OASIS Forum yesterday accusing the PF Government of trying to reverse the hard won democratic gains Zambia has achieved. In a statement released to the media by his Press man George Chellah, Mr Sata said that the PF Government was determined to build a deeply united, democratic and totally transformed country.

The president challenged the forum to pin-point the specific violations or ‘hard-won democratic gains’ the Government was attempting to reverse.

President Sata said that it would been more helpful if the Oasis Forum recognised that the central aim of national building lay in constructive engagement of specific sectors of governance.

“It’s only fair that if there are other broader governance issues they want to raise they should engage the Minister of Justice. Merely issuing statements will not solve our country’s problems. It might win them kudos but it won’t take them and the country very far,” the President said.

“As leaders we need to encourage our citizens that our nation’s survival and growth is anchored on active engagement and participation on several matters concerning our country. Therefore, we wish to advise our colleagues in the Oasis Forum and other stakeholders to learn to engage and not play to the gallery.”

President Sata said that the PF administration is resolute to establishing a close working relationship with various stakeholders for the benefit of the country.

“We are a democratic Government that fully understands its limitations as enshrined in our Republican Constitution. Furthermore, this Government is serious about delivering development to our people through economic growth, job creation and combating corruption and crime among others,”

“We are aware that this will only be achieved if we work with all stakeholders who are serious about meaningful dialogue that translates into beneficial results for our people. No wonder, since getting into Government, I have made it my preoccupation as Head of State to engage the public as widely as possible including the Church.”

The President advised the Oasis Forum against declaring disputes before engaging the Government conclusively.

    • Just shows how shallow you are mr Bwalya.A sensible and mature human being could have had atleast given a valid point to argue your point home, but you chose the insult way.It is people like you who make me wonder where our country is heading to.Looks like there is a shortage of rational beings.Grow up dude

    • Zebige, never mind the cheap pop-corn Octopus paul Bwalya. Madness will always be there for some people with scatter brains-Schizophrenia. He doesnt know what he is saying

  1. Oh please, do us a favour and just shut up! Democracy and Sata’s government? Is this a joke? The Presidency is beyond your station! Leave it to people who are capable………we are tired of your never ending political campaign. When are you going to address real issues like the food, fuel, water shortages that the country is experiencing? This is what you were elected for not the constant electioneering! Typical clueless African leader who doesnt know the purpose of high political office.

    • Goncalves i wish we had hundreds and hundreds of people like you, truly to the point this man just need to….. i have no kind words for him,God help us i really feel for young Zambians what does the future holds for them.

  2. The people of Zambia didn’t elect George Chellah why can’t yourself call for a press conference and face the media….

    • He wouldn’t want to make a fool of himself failing to answer questions from journalists. It may be possible if state house procures a prompter.

  3. Apparently they have failed to sell their vision to the masses and have instead taken on an alarmist approach. My heart is bleeding

  4. Does this Govt reflect on what it is saying in relation to what it’s doing or does it continue to believe that Zambians are that gullible and will not follow the trail of lies. Surely this statement is another “attack is the best form of defence”. It is Healines news on ZWD that Kabimba has threatened arrests on YALI, Mumba n HH are facing frivolous charges in court, Kabimba at the ACC, deportations without recourse to due process. Sekani and Chella’s utterances and the “blame it on the opposition” culture and one says we are championing democracy and encourage active engagement! The issues raised by OASIS are of deep concern to many and simply issuing “media spinned statements” isn’t good enough…

  5. God Help Us.
    Ecclesiastes 10:5 says,
[ The Ironies of Life ] There is another evil I have seen under the sun. Kings and rulers make a grave mistake

  6. Sata please respond to peoples’ cry about mealie meal shortages! Stop politiking! People dont eat the meaningless and constant statements from Roy Welensky’s mansion!

  7. Yeah, go on, bury you head in the sand. We dont need these cheap and childish statements written by chellah on behalf of sata. Please chellah grow up and stop these childish replies to serious concerns from the public.

  8. Typical of so-called ‘Zambian’ bloggers: epithets, epithets, all the way. Not even a modicum of decent language, under the sun!

  9. Gone are the days when we had articulative bloggers on this site like mark world,ba Maureen and Nine Chale. The bunch we have now is just full of garbage, insults and compromised reasoning.

  10. The public order act is not democratic, fighting corruption is perfect but Justice Minister’s behavior going to ACC with tens of supporters hasn’t gone down well, if there is nothing to hide why not allow himself to be questioned? He is a lawyer, he knows when entrenchment is intended…issues currently raised in the country could easily have been what we remember Sata fighting against…i still have confidence in PF…but i am just human and having seen the full extent of misuse in MMD, i already see a pattern developing with PF…distancing yourselves from stakeholders, saying this but meaning that…if this behavior is allowed to grow, the people will turn against its government…the stone that the builders rejected…HH maybe?? Just like Sata was never popular at one time????!

    • Dojo, I think you better stay and specialize in commenting on football, politics are not for you. Why you condemn yourself “… am just a human bla bla”
But when I see your soccer commentary, I respect the way you watch the game.

  11. The president challenged the forum to pin-point the specific violations or ‘hard-won democratic gains’ the Government was attempting to reverse:
    1. Wynter Kabimba intimidation of the ACC & resultant Petrol shortages
    2. Public order act applied to opposition only
    3. Misuse of taxpayer money-K1.5 billion to first lady
    4. Misuse of taxpayer money-K1.4 billion President retirement house
    5. Deportations of Rajan Mathani’s enemies
    6. Judicial Tribunal instigated by Zambian Airways shareholders
    7. New constitution being drafted by a few individuals to allow Gay and Lesbian ri

  12. World Bank Executive Director for the Africa Group 1 Constituency Denny Kalyalya has called on Zambians to propel the country to higher levels of development by taking full advantage of the immense goodwill from the international community.

Dr. Kalyalya has thanked the Zambian Government for unreservedly supporting his candidature and described his resultant appointment as a humbling experience.

And Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda has described Dr. Kalyalya – the newly appointed World Bank Executive Director for the Africa Group 1 Constituency – as a humble patriot who is profoundly schooled and through whom Zambian professional talent will be viewed positively by the International Community.

“We have unfettered joy in seeing you rise to a very high office in the World Bank

  13. # 12 Karry those were days. Today’s generation of bloggers on LT have scared away some of us.We just read without contributing because of fear of being insulted for expressing opinions.

    • I see now reason to fear insults;there will always be ones whose sole aim is to discourage proper discourse. It is obviously annoying but being an online engagement of every aspect of governance, we shouldn’t be scared away. We can’t all agree. We can’t all be level headed but all of us have the right to speak our mind. At least that’s how I feel about it the extent of my involvement. I won’t argue with naysayers like [Blessings] or [Mushota] so I choose to ignore their retorts and skewed ethic. I just hope more of us,regardless of whether you agree with me on issues or not,  keeps up the conversation. We need to dialogue without remorse, or fear of verbal taunts.

    • I get your point bro.It is only that insults changes the equilibrium of discussion.True we all can`t agree on the same thing and that shouldn`t be an excuse to hurl insults at another blogger.

    • They will always be fanatics that only think they are always right. But running away by not contributing just embolden such individuals. If you love Zambia the way most of us do, there’s nothing wrong in taking a few unpalatables from the munshololwas. Our quest to make sure the government and opposition respect the reason they are their, is much bigger than the insults we get from fanatics.

    • Constructive criticism is the norm of democracy. They will always be fanatics that only think they are always right. But running away by not contributing just embolden such individuals. If you love Zambia the way most of us do, there’s nothing wrong in taking a few unpalatables from the munshololwas. Our quest to make sure the government and opposition respect the reason they are their, is much bigger than the insults we get from fanatics.

  14. I don’t like articles posted by George Chella,
Yes #12 gone are the days.
But those days there was democracy, that’s why dogs are becoming popular.

  15. It can be hard to please people who hate or despise you, very difficult indeed. If some one van wish you death, what good can you do to please such a person. Some people hate Sata so much that if they had means they would do anything to him, even if, even when he has personally done anything to them, apart from the fact that he won democratic elections. Some are so bitter, agitative, confrontational and have chosen not to see any good things he does. But what if it were them? Don’t forget its same name music under KK, FTJC, LPM and LBB. Haters will ever be there, and genuine opposition will be there too. If he becomes heavy handed same unrealistic people will cry the loudest! Every which way, you need to be bold and rule the nation.

  16. This opposition, they have delayed and further delay the finishing of constitution as if they will exhaulst all human endavouers! Its become so costly! Egypt, SA, Kenya etc have done quick! How fast do we think?

  17. Who is George Chellar? Hold a pressconference your self Mr President and anounce major issuies the country is going thro using chellar it may not help.

  18. I see no reason to fear insults;there will always be ones whose sole aim is to discourage proper discourse. It is obviously annoying to have to deal with but being an online engagement in every aspect of governance (that affects us), we shouldn’t be scared away. We can’t all agree. We can’t all be level headed but all of us have the right to speak our mind. At least that’s how I feel about the extent of my involvement. I won’t argue with naysayers like [Blessings] or [Mushota] so I choose to ignore their retorts and skewed ethic. I just hope more of us,regardless of whether you agree with me on issues or not,  keep up the conversation. We need to dialogue without remorse, or fear of verbal taunts. 19. The opposition is doing this hoping to get some emotional sympathy from people which they think will translate into votes. What a bunch of losers.

  20. Ba Sata, issues are there in the article: Wynter’s conduct at ACC required you to reprimand him; the arrest of Nevers Mumba along with some of his MPs on the Copperbelt; Your statement to ACC to seek you permission before investigating your Ministers & MPs; you sound like Sakeni there my man. You have not engaged with the public in close to the 2 years you’ve been President, surely you don’t need a reminder on that; Army worms are terrorising fields and putting us in danger of starvation, sky rocketing Mealie meal prices in the face of consecutive bumper harvests.

  21. Hown can our President Sata claim to be democratic when he is a very willing student of Dr Kaunda and Mr Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe on the matter of how to destroy opposition parties and creating a one party state? It is fact that President Sata is systematically liquidating opposition parties. Especially the major political parties. He can’t fool all of us.

Charles Milupi, Nawakwi and all young leaders are a big let down for democracy of the future. Recycled leaders are increasing in every aspect of Zambian leadership. Shame!!

  22. # 24 Voodoo….I get your point bro.It is only that insults changes the equilibrium of discussion.True we all can`t agree on the same thing and that shouldn`t be an excuse to hurl insults at another blogger. Some bloggers are a put off.

  23. Well said president George Chellah. You should have been president instead of that puppet. Why can’t he speak to the people directly. Has he been mimed to avoid embarrassment?

  24. Isn’t there a site under the sun where one can blog without being inundated with un-mentionable insults on a daily basis? Those of us that grew up in environments where insults were an exception rather than the rule find some Zambian sites, including this one, sites intolerable.

  25. This man has always been a traitor, he worked for the British colonialists as a policeman instead of fighting for independence. Now he is the colonialist.

The other problem is that all the PF top brass are weed smokers so they can’t make sound decisions. If u look at this so called reaction, it is full of nothing other than affirming that the man is intoxicated by bear, drugs and womanising.

Where are the Catholics who supported this man so much? Let them say something this time. Are catholic Ten Commandments different from those in the bible? The man is everything bad and nothing good, yet ruling by catholic Ten Commandments. Challah is just a useless boy Sata thinks is wise let them wait for flames of voter reaction and see

  26. Sata just shut the fack up! We are tired of your tricks with your minions! Imwe mukachula the day you will be kicked out of power, you are creating too big webs for yourselves. It is really saddening to have so called leaders who think they know it all. You have embarrassed too long too much Satan iwe!

  27. Sad readings from State House – fighting the Oasis Forum mainly influenced and organised by Catholics is bad omen – its the begining of bad things to come in PF – as other bloggers have said, “Stop politiking, provide fuel, provide mealimeal, people need medicine and not the borrowed language – PF desist from fighting LAZ and Oasis Forum – you are only digging your own grave – people listen more to these two bodies than they to hh and mumba – the post also has great respect for LAZ and Oasis forum.

  28. Interesting response!! How many times have we seen the President either kneeling in front of or kissing the hand of one of the bishops of the catholic church. That shows you his level of respect for bishops. On the other hand, Oasis Forum includes Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) made up of all catholic bishops and now he is telling them to stop playing to the gallery.Waoh..!!

  29. Democracy must start with u before u take it somewhere. Is mmd democratic?ls upnd democratic? Are these bloggers insulting others democratic? Oasis and Laz are not being sincere .Hypocrites!

  30. Today`s world is a tough one. But it`s even tougher when a country puts retards to run government in such a challenging world. Its gonna be a very long, long road for Zambia. I hope, and i hope, Zambians have learnt a lesson.

  31. Firstly,i must welcome myself back to LT,its been a minute.I must state that i am rather disappointed by these swift responses from state house to any issue seen critical to the government.Lastly,i would say the oasis forum must not be used by some selfish opposition parties to channel their grief.Opposition does not mean making governing impossible for the party in power,it means correcting wrongs on behalf of the people.Unfortunately, even the biggest democratic nation is going through the same pattern.

  32. Some of these bloggers like Narrant or  Karry or Nine Chale are the same bloggers who use fake names in social media in facebook  political groups as they are afraid of risking their “careers”. Please do not blog if you are a coward; just stick to telegrams, faxes, post cards and PTC.

    • I am an academician for your own information and leads a life style that you can only dream of.Just crossed my mind to check out LT after a long absence my young brother. As for news i am okay with my online hardcopy version of the post newspaper .I guess i am too learned for your level.

    • Kekeke, and what good is your education if its only felt by you and yours? We don’t care about your life style. It doesn’t put food in our bellies.

    • @Destroy….your government has benefited from it.One of the ministries has actually been using a model i designed for three years now.I wont tell what that is am afraid. You will never go wrong with education.Try it…it might help to remove your cynisism.

  33. #39Uncle Peoples: There’s a new development: people can now be sued for what they say on the blogs. For sizable chunks of money. Beware, you could be the first, don’t say you were not warned, wherever your domicile!

  34. @Narrant: You continue to be timid as I said before you stick to fax machines and telegrams its far much safer for you: you are the reason we are still led by our grandfathers today.

  35. EDUCATED MEN AND WOMEN ARE THE MOST IRRATIONAL AND USELESS PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA. THEY SIMPLY FAIL TO THINK TO REASON. PUBLICITY IN ZAMBIA HAS BEEN TAKEN TO ANOTHER LEVEL. EVERY ONE WANTS TO BE WRITTEN ABOUT IN THE MEDIA AND MOSTLY FOR STUUPID REASONING.

    • when I was about age 11 my dad asked me how I would define education. My answer was “someone who has Phd and is a physician. Then he asked me what I learned person was, and I came up blank. I asked him WTF does  learned mean – not in those words of course. He explained it as a person whose education goes beyond academics someone whose thinks outside the box and can see both sides of the story and is not easily swayed. Today I think ‘educated’ and ‘learned’ are just semantics but I think some people become so rigid as the pursue degrees – the operative here being some -. Learned people are much like Einstein or Steve Jobs, to name the famous ones. Those are who we need. We have some here on LT. Others are mindless drones with a degree, timid and tepid.

  36. In Tanzania they say “nyani haoni kundule’ meaning a monkey never notices his own rough, scratched butt but always sees that of his neighbour. Thus he’ll always think nothing wrong with his butt.Sata is thinking like those monkeys and his parameters on democracy must have a very low bar.Even Museveni says he has democracy. If these two clowns were to set their own exam about democracy they would pass with flying colours.

  37. #41.uncle peoples. You assume too much. It’s because Iam adventurous and not timid that Iam able to leave and work outside Zambia.

  38. Sata please just admit that you using your friend, former Director General of Zambia Intelligence Chungu who you are using to cause confusion in opposition parties and leaders.

All the Zambians and other people you are deporting mostly are being recommended by Director General of Zambia Intelligence Chungu and Finance Bank Owner Mahatani. They in one way or the other were hurt by these innocent people.

Sata you are a petty simple man who is not fit to be a president in Zambia let alone as a village headman in Mpika.

Your friend Chungu has the history and experience of causing confusion in UNIP as an opposition during Chiluba’s tenure and when you, Sata was a closer friend to Chungu. Chungu gave you (Sata) a Vehicle which Chungu stole from Special Branch in Zambia

  39. Sata you will be prosecuted together with Chungu after your term because Chungu does not know how to follow the law. He is a law breaker and a pure criminal.

  40. History repeats itself! After we the Zambian people vote you out next, all the innocent people you have deported will come back to Zambia and all their businesses you have grabbed from them will be given back to them.

Chungu and Mahtani will answer for their misdeeds again.

    • Shaka OZ, you have bitterness like HH. I voted for Sata after alot of deep through throwing meditation. If this country must go forward we need some toughness. Its not about dressing vitenges to trees or dancing kuyabila during campaign. You dont run a govt by hearing every nonsense that is uttered by haters. Get some personal education out of life and stop being dipper crying and chicco buscuit or jiggies citizens. Innuendos wont take us anywhere

  41. Perhaps President Sata should tell the nation how many letters he wrote to Presidents Mwanawasa and Banda’s Minister of Justice when he was in opposition.

  42. Oasis forum are free to say their opinion. atleast thats what you would expect in a democratic country.

If Ukwa had a problem with their statement, it would have been better to adress his concerns but NOT telling them that ‘they will achieve nothing unless they talk to him’. Why is Ukwa so arrogant , people cant even talk unless they speak to him?

  43. Some people are complaining about insults on this site. But those insults are always in a particular language, no prizes for guessing, whose people support a particular party comprising mostly kaponyas.
