Minister of Sport and Youth Chishimba Kambwili has called on the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate him on allegations that he is giving Youth Development Funds (YDF) to his girlfriends and relatives.
Speaking in Mongu when he called on Western Province Minister in Mongu today, Mr. Kambwili said he was disturbed by media reports that he was abusing funds meant for youths.
He said the allegation were not true.
The Minister explained that applications for youth empowerment were done at provincial level for the sake of transparency and accountability.
Mr. Kambwili said his office has constituted provincial technical committees to work on applications for youth not based on political patrons but on the viability of the applications.
He added that media reports about him have brought shame on his family who heard it on radio hence the need for the ACC Director to take it up and clear the matter.
And Mr. Kambwili held a private meeting with the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) to brief them on his mission in the area.
After the meeting, Mr. Kambwili told reporters that the BRE has welcomed the establishment of new districts and the planned construction of a university and stadium in the province.
He said the BRE was happy with President Michael Sata’s development ideas but wanted the projects to be done quickly.
He described the relationship between government and the BRE as cordial adding that the meeting was also fruitful.
The Minister is in Western province to handover cheques to successful applicants of the Youth Development Fund and to look for land where to build an ultramodern stadium.
The construction of the stadium is expected to commence soon after plans have been done.
