Mayuka’s inactivity Concerns Zambia bench

Zambia assistant coach Partice Beaumelle says striker Emmanuel Mayuka’s inactivity at English Premiership side Southampton is a double-edged sword.

Mayuka last Premiership game for Southampton was on November 5 in a 2-0 away defeat to West Brom.

“It is difficult for one player when he is on the bench but we will see,” Beaumelle said.

Beaumelle led Zambia to Tanzania on Wednesday in the absence of Herve Renard who is away in Ghana at 2012 CAF awards gala but the latter is expected to join the team on Friday on the eve of the friendly against the Taifa Stars in Dar-es-Salaam.

“Hopefully we will get Mayuka as soon as possible to prepare for the Africa Cup,” Beaumelle said.

“There are two possibilities sometimes when you are not playing you can be fresh and show that you very motivated and show that you can do a very good job.

“Sometimes when you stay on the bench you can miss the feeling on the ground.

“But I know Mayuka he is very happy when he is on duty with the Chipolopolo and I look forward to see him with us.”

Mayuka, who won the 2012 Africa Cup golden boot with three goals, joined Southampton this season from Swiss side Young Boys and has yet to score a goal in six Premiership games since moving to England in the summer.

  1. This should be a challenge to Mayuka and not a problem…dig under the wall young man and show them what they are missing at Southampton when you play for Zed in South Africa!

  2. I don’t like to comment at young people’s careers, because usually they don’t know what they are doing until they reach 27 years old, like Felix Katongo, now he can start making best decisions.

  3. Mayuka needs to push his game up. Coming from the bench, you’re expected to do some magic in order to win a permanent place. Mayuka doesn’t seem to do that. I watch the Premier League very often and see players like Lukaku come on as substitutes and perform better than Mayuka but they’ll still not be starters the next game. The other example is what Modibo Maïga from Mali is able to do for West Ham and still……

  4. ……can’t start the next game. There some players who are far much skilled than Mayuka but stay on the bench for a very long time without a game – Arshavin & Rosicky @ Arsenal e.g. Even our own great Kalu had to warm the bench for Romario until he fled to Mexico. Mayuka has to show that he has potential to outshine Lambert and Puncheon, otherwise we’re seeing another Mbesuma in the making!

  5. I still do not understand his motivation to join the Saints. Mayuka was doing fine at Young Boys and testing Champions League football. He could be playing in the lower division next season

    • Agree 200 percent. English soccer is too overrated by all of us in Britain’s former colonial empire. Its better to play in Switzerland in the Champions League than join small little clubs like Southampton. Next year Southampton will be in Coca Cola whatever chamnpionship

  6. And his friends Sunzu wants to join Readings instead of Arsenal as if he cannot see that Readings are at the bottom of the league. Please we need good advisers for these boys. Not bunka like Kalu.

  7. Zambians are too talkative!! Nothing wrong with warming the bench in a competitive league. That is why you spoil people’s careers by talking too much. There is a lot of time for Mayuka to prove himself and I am sure his employers know that. Shut up!! If I was Mayuka, I would not pay attention to all these losers flapping their mouths :-?

  8. i also dont understand why he chose saints over youngboys. a team which plays champions league football. young boys is far better than southamptom>>> mayuka is not gonna taste any action soon as the coach has shown interest in signing another striker come the january transfer window. so how does mayuka interpret that???

  9. Go back to Swizerland Mayuka, EPL wakukanga boi… Sunzu will do it. Imwe even if Reading will be demoted Arsenal would have monitored him closely by then….
