Youth and Sport Minister Chishimba Kambwili escaped death in a road traffic accident after his official motor vehicle overturned on the outskirts of Mpika District.

ZANIS reports that that Mr. Kambwili’s official vehicle overturned after his driver Moses Daka failed to negotiate a corner on the outskirts of Mpika District on his way to Kasama District where he was expected to hand over cheques to some youth groups in the district.

Mr. Kambwili, who was accompanied by his three daughters, is reportedly to have sustained some minor injuries while his official vehicle has been damaged extensively.

The Minister and his three daughters are currently receiving medical attention at Chilonga Mission Hospital in Mpika District.

Mr. Kambwili is on the tour of Northern and Muchinga Provinces to handover cheques to some deserving youth groups under the revised Youth Development Fund (YDF) programme.

The Minister had just come back from Southern Province on a similar programme that is aimed at economically empowering youths.

  1. Thank heavens you are fine Mr. Kambwili.
We know your enemies want to eliminate you because of your honesty and hard work. The Kabimba camp is just too evil.

    • You are the one with a dark heart. I don’t like kabimba but to think like you just have is troubling. Wishing the Minister and his daughters a quick recovery.

    • Number 2, You are the one with a dark heart. I don’t like kabimba but to think like you just have is troubling. Wishing the Minister and his daughters a quick recovery.

    • This has nothing to do with kabimba but the bad state of our roads. Our roads are so pathetic, it’s a nightmare to drive on them. As if that is not enough, road signs and warnings are non-existent.  In Zambia, roads are among dealy weapons, they are the equivalent of American guns.
Thank you God no life was lost

  2. Why immediately assume that someone is trying to kill the man? RTA’s happen every single day and the speeds at which these guy drive it was simply a matter of time before one of the government officials got involved in an accident.

Yes these guys are evil, if Kambwili had been left at the Labour ministry then I would have suspected foul play, not now bachepa sana amaguys aba bambi.

  3. The English of Zambian journalists is very bad. What does it mean ”  motor vehicle overturned 1000 kilometers in Mpika” . Anyway may I wish the minister a quick recovery and the lords protection in this difficult time.

  4. 1000 km before Mpika should be somewhere in Kalomo. Where exactly did the accident happen? And the man should not be travelling around with his daughters. Isn’t he entitled to an official family holiday?

  5. Itz good that he and his doughters sustained minor injuries. Wynter is very evil. Get well soon Hon. And what about the driver? Is he fine?

  6. Why go with children on official duties far far away from home:-? I suppose they are beta off with mama at home

  7. on official business …going to hand off ma cheques to deserving youth groups..buti futi with daughters in the vehicle mhmmm lack of discipline bane anyway..heres wishing the hardworking hon.kambwilli and the entourage a speedy recovery

  8. Get well soon Toadface. Once you’ve recovered from shock, I expect to see you in my Civics class for PF Presidents and Ministers. By the way Toadface, a lot of Zambians are wondering why you are using a Government vehicle during the weekend? You may claim that you were on ‘government business delivering cheques’! I will come and explain to you clearly and fully in the Civics class that as a politician and Cabinet Minister this is not in your remit! Anyways see you soon….in class!

    • permanent Secretaries, Ministers, district commissioners, etc are exempt from the rule that govt vehicle must be parked during weekends….. and i believe the vehicle is personal to holder and he gets the vehicle when he leaves office…. lucky buggers!!!

  9. Journalism in Zambia is pathetic our claimed learned journalists cant write good report, so sad at levels of education we have in Zambia. Anyway I wish Kambwili quick recovery and his daughters, he is a very hard working Minister PF has and he deserves support. Kabimba and his counterpart oppositions should slow down with their witch craft.

  10. How come Youth Development Funds Cheques just go to one direction of the country? Anyway quick recovery to Kambwili so that he brings cheques here also.

    • Follow the minister’s activities iwe kalulu. Kambwili was in Western province for the same business not too long a go. And the poorly written report here says he was not in that area earlier. Dull boy?

  11. I was in Kasama yesterday with the Provincial Youth officer when he was inviting people for the handover ceremony with consitant communication from Mr. Mulonda. The mood was very good for the people. Its too bad and very sad that it happened that way. However, what were his three daughters doing in that team? That is the problem I have. People should learn to differentiate between official duty and a family outing. I’m disappointed with him for taking his three daughters along.

  12. No. 4 KOLWE: Also for a journalist to say, “failed to negotiate a corner” leaves me wondering. Is it a corner or a curve?

  13. You are one in a thousand. Why dont we have Government Flight anymore. Honestly you cannot expect a minister to be criss crossing Zambia like those tamanga drivers who drive imported vehicles. Awe mwe

  14. 1,000km is abit too much!! You are reffering 1000km from where?? Do you know that from Lusaka to Nakonde is roughly 900km?? Check your stastical facts again.

    • I was beginning to wonder about the same because from Mpika going up is only a couple of hundred kilometers from Daresalaam. Going south is yet just shy of getting to chirundu. The reporter’s compass has malfunctioned here.

  15. THANKS GOD JEHOVAH NOTHING VERY SERIOUS HAPPENED TO HIM AND HIS DAUGHTERS. WE NEED MINISTERS OF THE LIKES OF KAMBWILI. HE’S HARD WORKING.

THERE ARE VERY FEW DRIVERS IN ZAMBIA WHO CAN REALLY PASS THEIR DRIVING TESTS IN SOME LANDS. IT WOULDN’T SURPRISING TO LEARN THAT THE DRIVER WAS DRINK-DRIVING.

  16. Does he need to criss cross the country to handover cheques?Im sure there has to be an easy way of doing this than this PF publicity stance.

  17. Does he need to criss cross the country to handover tax payers cheques?Im sure there has to be an easy way of doing this than this PF publicity stance.

  18. WHY ON EARTH DOES HE HAVE TO TREK THE COUNTRY JUST TO HAND OVER CHEQUES? WHAT IS THE POINT OF HAVING PROVINCIAL HEADS/REP’S? WASTE OF RESOURCES

  19. Why is the Minister the one going round distributing Cheques? Why is the Minister traveling with the familiy on OFFICIAL business? Wishing him a quick recoveryu so that he can answer these questions!

  20. Many times Government drivers are quite careless in the way they drive vehicles. Over speeding is there desire and many of them like drink driving, one for the road! They don’t mind about care of vehicles, with the mentality that if it breaks down another one will be allocated. Road accidents happen but are surely caused due to human failures, of the drivers in most instances. Too bad this one but thanks God the victims survived. I wish them quick recovery.

  21. ine ichi lempapusha icha kwebati the whole lot of kamwili moving around na ma cheque..im not buying it…mu lenjeba ati ba youfi taba kwata ama account where same said cheques can be deposited?!elo ba Lusaka times …can u be seen to be serious bane-this kind of reporting kwena cha mu sebanya-i expect such from tumfweko…or are u one and the same?

  22. Thank GOD that everyone only sustained minor injuries. Please do not fire the Driver as accidents do occur and its not time to talk evil or point at one another but time to thank Gods total protection.

    • Maybe god caused the accident prevented death so that he could get kudos from numbskulls like you. To thank him, he should have prevented the accident from happening in the first place!

  23. Until the author edits this story, it remains unknown where exactly the accident happened because “1000 km from Mpika” can be anywhere. But of course it did not happen in Northern, Muchinga, Central, Copperbelt, no in Lusaka Province!

  24. Too bad Hon Kambwili. Thank God you are well. It’s a pitty the kid were also in a duty vehicle which might require to beat deadlines and meet certain appointments. My advise it that in future the kids are kept away from such risks. Let work be work, and family time be family time. May God continue to protect you and bless you.

  25. perhaps he decided to travel with his daughters on instruction from his wife who might be accusing him of malingering with other peoples’ daughters locally known as “mahule” or prostitutes in foreign language

  26. Chi Winter Kabimba is crazy. Why is he destroying PF.please leave Kambwili,GBM and Lubinda alone .Basata batusebanya saana. We da Zambians people who want hardworking MPs go rise against ba Sata.If PF was founded by pure love from da people why do u want to destroy it so quickly?some of us were not even sleeping jst to make sure PF wins. Now U come and start chessing people who are loved. Why why why Ba Sata kanshi?.Bushe tamuleufwa aci chi Winter will destroy our loved party?Winter has no respect even 4 his Father therefore he is not a blessed chap coz he doesn’t respect the parent. Please spare us from such nonsense.Wish Mr.Kambwili quick recovery. We love U

  27. Thank God Mr Kambwili and your daughters that you survived the Accident coz God and us people still need you. We will seek God to give us powers to break the Act of the devil. You are so hard working and devoted man to your duties. You truely have the heart for the people no weapon formed against you shall prosper until you achieve the needs of the people. This is truly God because you have all come out with minor injuries but the vehicle extensively damaged. We break every demonic bondage Sir.

    Kind Regards

  28. may i say that ,thank you to our dear God for serving Mr kambwili our minister that shows that God loves you so much.i wish to echo my comment,am sure for the vehicle to over turn then their was alot of negligence in the manner the driver was driving, its good that non died but i think the drive needs to be change coz it not just driving but its about responsibity when you are driving.and realize who are you carrying

  29. This is one of the few lone voices of wisdom left in PF. We pray for God’s blessings to facilitate Mr. Kambwili, his family,.Driver and other accompanying support staff a fast and full recovery.

  30. I do not really exactly know where the 1000 km could be between Mpika and Kasama because what I know is that Kasama is well less than 500km from Mpika. So guys tell the truth could it be 100km or what. All the same thank God the man is fine. Just worried about the girls. Why involve the guys in his duties. Someone should have told Kabimba that there we’re girls in the vehicle!

  31. Its a sad thing to hear, but my worry is why as a minister houldling money himself in form of cheques sleeping with them why? Does all ministers does that? Nowonder justice miniter is not happy with the friendy who goes out. Why are u not using the banks, are there no networks in the banks or what? This is the reason why u PF closed the opposition month to sleep, travel, with money.Tax payers money

  32. Still trying to figure out: “overturned some 1000km in Mpika” – Did the car roll-over for 1000km?

Or as you said: 1000km away from Mpika on his way to Kasama, and then rushed to Chilonga Mission? Even more puzzling?

    Maybe its Harry Potter.

  33. For your infor,Kambwili s wife and family live in the UK,wife is a nurse and left way back. The daughters could have been with him on holiday. This is festive period and most VIPs are on holiday, just goes to show how hard working the PF govt is that even when they are supposed to be resting, because the country was devastated they continue to work.He is on working holiday.

  34. 35. This has nothing to do with kabimba but the bad state of our roads. Our roads are so pathetic, it’s a nightmare to drive on them. As if that is not enough, road signs and warnings are non-existent.  In Zambia, roads are among dealy weapons, they are the equivalent of American guns.
Thank you God toad face’s life has been spared

  36. Wish him and the girls a quick recovery! However my question is what were his daughters doing in the GRZ vehicle if he on official duty?

  37. The journalis meant overturning 1000times, between the mpika to kasama stretch, the car managed to finish its rolling just before kasama.

  38. walishuka boyi, stop coercing your driver to drive longer wen they tell u they are tired…grz ministers pliz stop making us drive fast and longer because u r late….

  39. The Minister who became the paymaster! Couldn’t some one in in the Ministry hand out the cheques? Does he not have anything better to do in his office, unless allowances are the motivation for zungulila Zambia?

  40. We need to start building motorways in Zambia. The current road system will not cope with the increasing demands for development. Unless we embark on a major overhall of the rail system linking all major provinces, we will continue to recieve these horrifying reports of Accidents. Your don’t negotiate bends on motorways because they are designed for speeds in excess of 100km/hour.
