Zambia Police probe Koffi Olomide for allegedly assaulting a journalist

[1]
Congolese musician Kofi Olomide

THE Zambia police service has instituted investigations into Congolese rhumba musician Koffi Olomide alleged assault of a freelance journalist on Friday.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kajenla confirmed in Lusaka yesterday that police were on the ground to investigate the matter before they could make a move.

Olomide is alleged to have assaulted photojournalist Jean Ndayisenga commonly known as Mandela for allegedly kicking him in the face as he tried to take photographs of the musician after a live performance at Pamodzi hotel.

Ndayisenga reported Koffi for assault at Kabwata police station but the case has been transferred to Lusaka Central police.

But Ms Kanjela yesterday said in an interview that police has started probing the matter.

Koffi arrived in the country on Wednesday for two performances in Lusaka before moving to Kitwe for another show at Moba hotel today.

This man is a known pervert and rapist in Paris. Why does Zambia continue to allow scam like this bleach skinned Congolese to enter the country?

The problem with Zambian mentality is that anything foreign is better. Lwenu

Recently, Congolese burnt a Zambian truck driver to death, and now Koffi Olomide is alleged to have assaulted a journalist at Pamodzi hotel. Anyway, Zambians are docile.

#29 Comment By Kibinda waba Kabwa On December 31, 2012 @ 1:10 pm

True, but remember that there are people who migrated from Luba-Lunda who understand the language. And there are those who have learnt French and understand what these guys sing. I have to say; I have an insatiable love for rhumba, and its the only music i listen to because its real african music; so one mans meat is …..

17.2: Typical. Are you the benchmark for one to be multi-lingual? If you dont hear what they say, then dont assume everyone does not. I personnaly do. In fact I have plenty friends from Congo who can even inteprete anything i dont understand. My foot!

What kind of people are we?
Don’t we have enough local music to listen and dance to the we have to bring criminals into the country? Who still listens to rhumba in Zambia anyway?

The backwardness us Zambians show especially in dealing with foreigners is disgusting. This Koffi is a known sex thug who should not be allowed to perform in this country at the expense of our own musicians. Most Congolese generally have criminal genes. I dont trust them at all.

#38 Comment By The Jackal On December 31, 2012 @ 11:22 am

Kick them for they are useless and will not take you anywhere. It is a pity how us Zambians get persecuted by foreigners in our own country. This issue with Koffi is nothing compared to what is happening in Kamwala shopping area. People ignore evils happening and want to pursue Koffi. Zambians are so disorganized and an be treated in any way one wishes, if they take you to police just offer them money and you are off the hook!

#41 Comment By UK Zambian On December 31, 2012 @ 2:50 pm

Koffi used to come to Zambia even before Sata became president and the MPs used to patronise dancing clubs. So don’t be petty mate.

#42 Comment By Mukame On December 31, 2012 @ 11:50 am

At one time this man was being pursued by Zambia Police as a result of a warrant issued by Interpol. What happened to the arrest warrant? Koffi and others must understand that journalists are only doing their work. As irritating as journalists may be, violence against them is acceptable. We should be proud of the fact that journalists can freely ply their trade in our country, unlike other countries where they arrest and murder journalists. Remember how exercised we all were when Chansa Kabwela of The Post was arrested by RB’s government for exposing the state of maternity services at the UTH?

#45 Comment By Peter On December 31, 2012 @ 12:17 pm

#1 YOU ARE SPOT-ON ON ANY OTHER SENTIMENTS. BUT YOU ARE WRONG ON “…ANYTHING FOREIGN…”. CONGOLESE ARE WORLD CLASS ARTISTS. THEY ARE HIGHLY TALENTED AND VERY INNOVATIVE MUSICIANS. IN FACT IF THIS WORLD WERE FAIR- THEY ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD, SERVE FOR BLUES AND JAZZ MUSICS. ON THE ZAMBIAN SCENE- ZAMBIAN MUSICIANS ARE CRAP. THEY ALWAYS WANT TO COMPLETELY IMITATE THE WEST AND IN A WRONG WAY. HAVING SAID THAT, THERE’S A HANDFUL OF ZAMBIAN MUSICIANS WHO ARE WORLD CLASS SUCH AS UNCLE REX, MUTINTA, ETC. SO, DEAL WITH KOFI’S ASSAULT CASE IN ISOLATION FROM THE CONGOLESE TALENT. OF COURSE HE MUST BE FULLY ANSWERABLE FOR ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING SOME WHO WAS EVEN ON TOUR OF DUTY.

#46 Comment By Kibinda waba Kabwa On December 31, 2012 @ 1:11 pm

Huurayyy!! Thats my Peter!! I couldnt have said it any better!!

#47 Comment By Mr. X On January 1, 2013 @ 4:38 pm

Well they have some talent but not necessarily world class. Why is it that when a Congolese produces a video, they have to do it in Paris and not Congo? Why is it that when a Congolese song is played in a night the majority of those who rush to the dance floor are prostitutes? Why is it that when a Congolese appears on a video they are overdressed and wear jewerly weighing 25kg? Zambian artists aim at passing a message to the audience whilst appropriately dressed and in home grown videos

#48 Comment By ejay lasalasa On January 1, 2013 @ 10:06 pm

Well said zambian music cannot be compared to rhumba. They perform live better than our artistes who just insert a disc and start to sing along. Our friends are so talented hence the jealousy by all those whose private parts itch each time they hear ‘bolingo’..congo music is the best in Africa. Koffi merely kicked that ***** because he wanted to capture naked images when they were changing backstage just to tarnish his already troubled reputation. LONG LIVE LE GRANDE MOPAO MOKONZI. Quadra kora man four kora awards not a joke. Those who don’t appreciate ni ndoshi.

#52 Comment By Kibinda waba Kabwa On December 31, 2012 @ 1:19 pm

@24:Peter is very right; or shall I say i concur with his opinion. If Koffi kicked the guy let him face the law. But to discredit his music because of this one incident is unfair. In the western world, if you check stern’s music you will see that this man has sold out nearly each ulbum that he releases. The closest Zambian artist on the international scene was K’Millian or Salaka Brothers. Ok, call us congolese, and we shall accept because we know our roots are from there. But I cannot stand an imitation of 2Pac, R-Kelly or the like; sang by a Zambian, never. Amayenge cultural ansemble; Sakala brothers, Angela Nyirenda, yes I would buy. or Tswana traditional, Tuku music, yes; but hey thats my taste; and I would have paid to go see all his shows had I been home. Nga wafulwa lobe!!

…I was once told off in 1991 by a Zairean Boarder guard at Kasumba-Lesa Post that; “Munthu wa-Zambi ali navintu vibili, “kukengela elyo nakutumpa”…. Little wonder therefore that we are seen to tolerate these so-called musicians. Indeed like one blogger has correctly observed; why do we take foreign crap as better? I advise ZP not to even issue any statements concerning this issue because anyway they always fail (they only arrest Nervous Mumba & HH). Mark my words. I do not recall any ZP success stories. Its free riding in ZED. I mean think of it in less than 2 years they had an Interpol warrant concerning Koffi nothing happened. They knew he was coming again nobody questioned his case be it current or previous. Libongani etc you should have at least gone to night school to learn at least the survival skills of the job. Its like our fire brigade service it is probably the waste in the world.\:d/
