A 52 – year – old patient who was left unattended to by Management at Mazabuka district hospital for a period of five days has died.

Benson Mwiinga a resident of Chaanga Chaanga area in Mazabuka township died last night in Mazabuka district hospitala and his body is lying in the hospital mortuary.

District Commissioner Eugene Munyama confirmed the death of Mwiinga in an interview with ZANIS this morning.

Mwiinga was admitted to the hospital last week on Thursday but management at the institution decided to abandon and leave Mwiinga who was bed ridden under lock and key in an isolation room within the male ward for five days without rendering any form of medical attention.

He was however found on Monday this week in the isolation ward by Mr Munyama who quickly rushed to the hospital after a relative complained to him at his office that his relative was locked in a room without being given medicine, food and water and was lying on the floor underneath a bed, naked and gasping.

Government has since sent a team of experts from the provincial medical office led by Dr Simon Mutembo to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Late Mwiinga was alleged to have been neglected by Mazabuka district nurses on duty at the time of his admission to the health institution, a situation that has sparked planned protest by district residents.

  1. Oh no!why being so inhuman?why don’t they get employed in the military than going for a career you don’t have a heart for!

  2. I was we had such DCs in the whole country. These medical staff i tend to wonder if they where forced to do there training because the seem to be forced to do there jobs. These experts should be visiting clinics and hospitals randomly and see what is happening. They will be shocked..

  3. Most nurses are cruel and bitter. Hell knows why they behave like that. Maybe they don’t even know what they are angry about. Very few have that calling. Male nurses are much kinder. Shame on the cruel nurses.

  4. I would be very happy to see that these so called “nurses” are fired!!! maybe, maybe, they will learn something from their cruel behaviour.

  5. these pipo are heartless if found wanting they shud be fired with immidiate effect, thumbs up ba DC..its high time nurses change there behaviour towards patients.

  6. The government should be sued for this. These are hospitals run by the government with tax payer money and they should uphold an ethical standing. The family of the victim should seek judicial action against the hospital for negligence.

  7. why not just fire the hospital administration.it can as well be an example to will be offenders.its very in human

  8. if workers are not happy with the conditions of service they should’nt lump their anger onto their customers but take it up with management. This is a very sad story.

  9. Boma ni boma. The man was either a Thonga or UPhiND. The nurses are PF. Job well done. How can you heal an enemy? Wasa did it and MMD is now paying for the mistake. When an enemy is sick, escort them and feign sorrow for two days then celebrate pabwatooooo….

  10. which blood on their hands ba fi colour!! you are forgetting how imwe the tuma bankers treat us! how about imwe ba fi colour from ratsa and passport office. 11. instead worrying about local languages to change in school this goverment has clearly got a lot to sort out. RIP Mwiinga

  12. I don’t get it, why didn’t they wanted to help him?this just doesn’t make sense at all
. Zambian nurses or health care. In Europe will be fired and sent to jail either taken away their job title so they can neve work again as a nurse or doc. Highest level of inhumanity

  13. I just dont get it, why qw he locked up in a room? Was he prisoner? Where were his relatives? Did he suffer from a strange illness? So what if he did? What are hospitals for? unfortunately, there is no proper equipments and medical facilities to use in Zambia, i.e. gloves and aprons etc. I just dont get it. The whole story is half baked.

Please when you write a report in the newspaper/media could you make it detailed if you cant get your story straight in detail, why dont you just leave it.

Can most of you go back and do your Journalism courses in detail. Your Editors, if at all you have any, they too are rubbish.
