United Party for National Development (UPND) members in Southern Province have condemned the appointment of Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba to sit on the newly constituted Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) board.

They have instead appealed to the Minister of Tourism and Arts Sylvia Masebo and President Michael Sata to remove Mr Kabimba from the board to promote accountability, good governance as well as the free flow of information.

Speaking to ZANIS in a telephone interview last evening, UPND Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary Derrick Livune said the UPND members in the province find the decision of Tourism and Arts Minister to include Mr Kabimba on ZAWA board as misplaced.

Mr Livune who is also Katombola Member of Parliament said Mr Kabimba has many roles to play both in the party as well as in government adding that it should have been better if the Tourism Minister had considered including a PF cadre on the board who does not hold any position in government.

He charged that Ms Masebo who is also Chairperson for elections in the PF makes her junior both in the party and in government adding that it would be a big challenge for her to supervise Mr Kabimba by virtue of his positions in government and the ruling party.

Mr Livune stressed that Mr Kabimba will suffocate other board members because of the powers he has both in government and in the party hence making the board not to make progressive decisions.

Meanwhile, UPND party members in the province have expressed regrets over the suspension of Livingstone City Council by Local Government and Housing Minister.

Mr Livune said the UPND feels the decision of Hon Emerine Kabanshi, the Minister of Local Government and Housing to suspend the city council for 90 days may be misunderstood by people as to what she was trying to prove bearing in mind that there is a by election in the period of the suspension and that most of the suspended councillors are from the UPND.

He noted that the matter between the Councilors and the employees should be handled with care especially that there is a looming by election in Livingstone.

Mr Livune has therefore, appealed to the minister to reconsider lifting the suspension of the city council to allow the people of Livingstone continue receiving services normally from the civic authority.

He further charged that Ms Kabanshi should have considered other alternative means of resolving the impulse between the council and the affected employees.

  1. True, which Chona is going to be firm a gainst a man second to the President in the Board? This is total nonsense, as far as Corporate Governance is concerned! And in another article yesterday, I read that that was an appointment for the Ministry – really? Winter Kabimba is the name for that Ministry? Nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. For the very first time i agree with uP N down party.
Iam PF but totally opposed to what MASEBO is trying to do especially in appointing Kabimba to the board. she is now behaving in the same way Dora was behaving. she has to be stoped before things become worse

    • Why do you think the UPND is concerned about this appointment? “Could it be that one of their own is involved in selling zambian wildlife without the knowledge of government and they fear that Kabimba is going to expose that person?” This is just a speculation. I agree with the sentiment that somebody else should have been appointed to the board. Appointing Kabimba to that position is making the guy more powerful than he already is. But as usual, people that hijack parties always tend to be more powerful than the people they found in those parties.

  3. Dick Masebo ‘junior’ is the issue here Mr Livune. Come off the grass and tell the truth about your protest. Being junior in the Party and Government is less a reason than the two ministers sleeping together and producing Dick Masebo ‘junior’ whom they have decided to send to Japan without any qualifications and experience in deplomatic service @ the expence of the taxpayer. It hurts as a taxpayer.

    • you monkey you claim dick is not educated yet you spell the word diplomatic ati “deplomatic” and expense ati “expence”, tekanya………..lekeni abantu ba bombe, 2016 is just around the corner, you will have the chance to vote them out, thats if it will be possible because PF is growing especially in southern

  4. That masebo wud find it hard to control Kabimba is actualy the other way round! Pf dying 4Lstone pity 4them suspending Lstone councilors wont work.

  5. Yes, that is what I also said a few days ago.

Kabimba must not be a member of the ZAWA Board.

Give jobs to other people who are jobless at the minute.

  6. OFCOURSE UPND ARE JUST BEING DIPLOMATIC. THE MAIN ISSUE IS THAT SOMEONE HAS APPOINTED HER BOYFRIEND TO THE BOARD, THIS IS IMMORAL

  7. I am PF, but on this one decision, I strongly feel it should be overturned pronto! Kabimba & Sylvia have a private relationship and her being in charge of ZAWA with Kabimba on the board will not be transparent at all. For once, I agree with the UP & DowN party! However, I am never voting HH because of his sexist statement!

  8. actually This man so called PF power tools should step down. I support you guys I dont belong to any political party but as a citizen I vote.
Please reject your friends appointment remember these things Ndeloleshafye
I support you man who said
“condemned the appointment of Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba to sit on the newly constituted Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) board.”

  9. Zambia is a failed state no wonder ministers can do as they please and there is no control. A typical banana republic.

  10. Now,that is my hubby’s party speaking!!! Ya,mwapusa imwe ba Pa Fwaka!!!

  11. Your time will come,if at all.let your friends govern in the best way they know how.I will concede if somebody tells me were it is written that a minister is not supposed to sit on a board, otherwise we ll be just playing gymnastics with words.
