United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia needs development that will translate in improves lives of people.

Addressing a rally at Kabwata basic school grounds in Kabwata Constituency this afternoon, Mr. Hichilema said his party will not allow the ruling Patriotic front to use hooliganism to deny a better life for the people.

He said the PF government has failed to deliver development to the Zambians, a situation that has prompted them to try by all means to suppress the opposition’s voice.

The UPND leader says Zambians have now realized that the party they voted into power in the 2011 general elections has failed to live up to its promises.

Mr. Hichilema said the current challenges that the country is facing are as a result of failed leadership by the PF government.

Political activist Dante Saunders, ZDDM president Edwin Sakala and other officials were among members of the opposition who attended the rally.

And speaking earlier, UPND vice president Richard Kapita accused Tourism and Arts minister Sylvia Masebo of appointing PF secretary General Wynter Kabimba to the Zambia Wildlife Board (ZAWA) board merely to misapply funds.

Mr. Kapita also bemoaned the violence that erupted between UPND and PF cadres in the morning before the rally.

He said the violence instigated by suspected PF cadres was unfortunate as clearly showed how determined the PF is to silence the opposition.

Some UPND cadres sustained injuries following the violence that ensued and when contacted for a comment, Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa expressed ignorance about the development.

    • You know! I was also wondering ah aha – is that all UPND said at the rally? Why are we so unlucky with leadership in Zambia? Maybe I should pay attention to Chipimo, I liked his analysis of the situation in response to the PF criticism.

    • Lightning
I also ask if they said anything about what they would do to improve our lives. It’s no use for the UPND to be castigating political opponents if they are not telling the masses what they intend to do IF they assumed power.

  1. congratulation for a successful rally zambia forward for better zambia fellow zambian lets continue to preach and remind one another of the freedom

  2. Tell the people what you are going to do and dont cheat that PF came over to cause violence. You are liar you just organised some youths to potray their are confusion. You have an urgent need to start campaigning in livingstone and mpongwe and you stage a rally in kabwata without any elections coming. You thought lubinda would be expelled?UPND you never cease to amaze me- last you went round campaining in your strong holds instead of investing alot of time and resources in arear where your popularity weak or non existent.Take from PF they never held rallies any how’ but partnered with the media for wider audience and not lusaka townships where you already have pockets of support. Mind you town folks dont need to be reminded, but independent decisions which makes campaigns in these areas…

    • You don’t need a binoculars to see PF Failures! HH has a right to hold a rally anywhere in Zambia and is in no hurry to hold it in Livingstone or Mpongwe. When the right time comes, he will surely hold a rally in those two places.

    • I was there and alot was said.however, the media chooses what to write. My bro or sissy what ever u are, watch the space. If you really mean to be honest of the realities, the mood in the country is not good

    • The dishonest is your advise to UPND is loud and clear. We can see through your actual intensions my dear. We forgive you from the bottom of our hearts.May God bless you.

  3. & where was this? was tis at the rally? LT get serious with your reporting. Meanwhile, HH Zambia loves & needs you than ever before. Your are the true son of our Zambia soils & very capable transforming Zambia once elected as president. Go HH go Upnd!

  4. H.H make smart campaings. You know what i mean.Consult us in PF if you want to win in 2032.Otherwise my party will carry the day once more

  5. UpNdown!! All that noise and yu end up with a thud!!
Just use the private radio stations to get wider audience.
Mpongwe and kwa Living bye elections will be a test if people have lost faith in PF or indeed in UPND.

  6. Is it LT’s poor reporting, or there was nothing of substance which was said at the Rally? Surely, there must have been something of importance said, otherwise why was there such a fuss to hold the rally???

Someone please give us infor about the rally

    One Zed One Nation!

  7. UPND SHOULD NOT MAKE FAKE ACCUSATIONS THAT PF CADRES WERE SENT OUT TO DISTURB THEIR TODAYS RALLY IN KABWATA BY THE GOVT. THERE CLAIM IS UTTERLY BASELESS. RALLIES OR NO RALLIES BY THE OPPOSITIONS WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE BECAUSE PF WILL BE IN POWER EVEN AFTER 2016 ELECTIONS. UPND AND M.M.D HAS NOTHING TO OFFER TO ZAMBIANS. H.H. AND NEVERS WILL NEVER ENTER THE PLOT ONE AS PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT SATA IS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. UNDER UPND OR M.M.D ZAMBIA CAN BECOME ANOTHER MALI OR SOMALIA IN CENTRAL AFRICA WHICH ZAMBIANS WILL NEVER ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN.. ZAMBIANS JUST BE PATIENT AS GOOD TIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER JUST GIVE A LITTLE MORE TIME . JUST MARK MY WORDSTHE PF GOVT WILL SURELY DELIVER THEIR ELECTION PROMISES SOON..

  8. If all what is written above were the only items for holding the rally, then there was no need for it. The unnecessary rallies just heighten tensions. They are counter productive. The message from the opposition above leaves much to be desired, but just rabble rousing. You need more than that. Check with Chipimo Jnr and learn a big lesson from there. Cool headed, no agitation, confrontation or malice. I wish you well, good recovery from your 2011 defeat.

    • INTERESTING SO CHIPIMO WAS NOT DEFEATED MORE THAN HH IN 2011. ITS CALLED SENSELESS SUPPORTING OF A TRIBESMAN OR TRIBESMEN!!

    • Damn, some of you people are really thickheaded. You can’t even understand some plain and simple advice @Floyd Chitalu! Where is “tribalism” in what Floyd has said?

My goodness, trying to see tribalism in everything has not and will never work for you guys in UPND. Get off of this TRIBAL INTRAVINANCE DRIP you seem to have ‘purposely’ hooked yourselves to. It is not helping your cause at all!

The best favor you can do to HH is telling him the truth. His political maturity leaves a lot to be desired and UPND political fortunes will keep dwindling until UPND stops ignoring the “elephant in the room”; which is your fascination with TRIBAL POLITICS and HH’s political immaturity!

    • cont….

Look, Elias Chipimo Jnr is now attracting so much attention not because of his tribe or that sort of nonsense. It is because of his approach to politics which is non-confrontational, mature, and inclusive. His approach to political opposition is solutions oriented and a breath of fresh air. Yet you guys in UPND are still stack in the same old tactics which Sata has successfully used before—it will never work for UPND!

If Chipimo’s recent popularity is entirely based on tribal grounds, why isn’t Nevers Mumba enjoying the same kind of good political notoriety since both hails from cousin tribes in the North? Isn’t it amazing that seemingly intelligent people can conveniently ignore glaring facts such this and straight away jump to stup!d conclusions such as tribalism?

    • cont….

This is the more reason why people think that UPND is a tribal party because of people like you “tribal f0@ls” on here—and not because of people like Floyd Chitalu. People have moved on, and it is about time you folks in UPND realized this fact and change!

  9. So this is de msg hakainde has bn itching 2 give zambians, ma rubbish. The ruling pf has bn vindicated 4 denying this dimwit and his defunct upnd a permit.there’s no opposition in zed

  10. UpNdown!! All that noise before the rally and yu end up with a thud!!
Just use the private radio stations to get wider audience.
Mpongwe and kwa Living bye elections will be a test if people have lost faith in PF or indeed in UPND.

  11. HH tell da people what your plans are to develop zambia instead of just condemning pf!Chalikubaba! We know you have no plan,no manifesto,no direction, nothing!!

    • ITS PF IN POWER TO TELL THE COUNTRY WHICH DIRECTION YOU ARE DRIVING THE COUNTRY NOT HH. HE IS AN OPPOSITION LEADER. YOU WANT TO KNOW UPND PACKAGE FOR ZAMBIA AND THEN IMPLEMENT IT. NO, PLEASE GO TO SCHOOL. NO CUT AND PASTE. WE WILL REVIEW OURS AT THE RIGHT TIME. WE INVESTED IN EDUCATION AND NOT STONE THROWING…LOL

    • @Maxwell, lucky you only use your right hand, Us parents don’t wish to compare our wise under 5 children to a person like Sata.
My 2 under5 children are dancing now, and just make me happy.

  12. This is reporting in brief, but the main issue should be to give praise were it is due, the main objective was to hold the rally regardless there off, the message is , your rights are being trampled on do something about it, that’s it!

  13. Miss opportunity! Same complaints with nothing of substance to tell the people. This was a chance to present their new plans and explain them to the people because the old plans have failed to convince the people. People like Kapita are just taking the UPND backwards, he makes wrong comments at the wrong time. This only proves that they were not prepared for this rally which they have been crying for.

    • Ba @TRUTH PAINS, and how is Sata’s “wrong or right” statements going to help UPND?!

Waiting for Sata/PF to make mistakes and hope that that will win UPND ponits is really a very lame strategy!!!!!!!

  14. HH is a useless opposition leader I have ever seen. He talks baseless issues. Instead of focussing on issue based campaign, he is busy misleading people. This shows only how stagnant he is becoming in his political journey. If he wants to win in 2016, he should start going to provinces were he is terminally ill. If he can boost his immunne system in provinces like Northern, Luapula, Eastern and Copperbelt then he can become a president. The more trivial campaigns of baseless issues, the more he is gonna continue to lose his immune system and finally UPND will be a defunct party like UNIP. I prognosticate PF ruling for the next 15 years or more. Sata’s strategy was good, but HH lacks the strategy to woo the masses of Zambian people. All he can do is to exhibit his annhilations

    • LISTEN TO SATA’S NEPHEW JUDGING BETWEEN SATA AND HH. YOU LIKE IT OR NOT SATA NEVER WENT TO SCHOOL AND WILL NEVER REACH HH’S LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE, WEALTH OR WISDOM. SATA IS WHAT OTHERS CALL JOHN FLY BY THE NIGHT…NIGHT SCHOOL GRADUATES WITH INCOMPLETE BUSINESS WITH MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. SPEAKING FAST TO HIDE THEIR IGNORANCE. MAN YOUR SATA IS NOT KNOWN TO HAVE GONE TO SCHOOL ANY WHERE AND SO IS RULLING FROM A GENERAL KNOWLEDGE POINT OF VIEW.

    • well, your under 5 will never reach Satas level my friend, given a choice between Sata and HH i still w’d go for Sata, you are really hating…..all these reponses, i think you are kapita himself kekekeke pwapwapwapwa, wait until 2052 thats when HH will be president.

    • solanki patel… uliko… hahahahah i remember you from livingstone, I see we are both in sweden.. lets connect. CNP SHOULD BE THROWN OUT

  15. Ba Truth Pains, you’re sound so excited and ready to defend HH at all cost. Some of the bloggers here are genuinely being objective but you think they’re attacking your leader. If what has been reported in the article is the main points your leader said, then him too is a CNP because the issues he mentions are common knowledge to every Zambian now. Every one knows PF has not lived up to most of their promises. We need a new direction for the country, UPND doesn’t have to be preemptive but they can start by giving hints if they are to attract attention.

  16. ZP give the go ahead to the United Party Numb headed Dunderheads (UPND) as many rallies as these chaps want; as they will only show us how feeble minded and empty these chaps are!

  17. WHEN IS UPND GOING TO HOLD RALLIES IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY?

THEY ONLY TALK ABOUT KABWATA! KABWATA…
WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL ABOUT KABWATA?

DONT THEY WANT A VOTE FROM CHILUBA’S VILLAGE, MUSANGU?

WHAT ARE THEY SCARED OF? UKU SEBANA…NO KAPONYAS TO ATTEND THEIR RALLIES..

  18. ALA. SO THAT WAS THE RALLY THE UPND HAS BEEN AGITATING ABOUT. IT WAS A POORLY ATTENDED RALLY. IT WAS A FLOP:
    1. VERY LOW TURN OUT CONSIDERING THE SIZE OF KABWATA.
    2. MOSTLY ATTENDED BY UNRULY THUGS.
    3. THE SAME OLD ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED WHICH WE ARE AWARE OF.
    4. NO ALTERNATIVES GIVEN ONLY CONDEMNATIONS AS USUAL.
    5. MARRED WITH VIOLENCE AND BLOOD SHED A USUAL CHARACTERISTIC OF UPND.
THE RALLY MARKS THE END OF UPND.

    • How do you expect peaceful Zambians to attend when PF thugs went to cause violence. So who is violent? PF or UPND? Any reasonable person is able to see. Do not think by intimidating people you are popular/ You are simply instilling fear and the reaction to you intimidation is voting you out. Do not be surprised and shocked as to what will lead to your down fall. It is your violence. The police if they are professional and independent will tell you who has been violent today. Keep on dreaming. that is how UNIP and MMD dreamed.

  19. The issue here is to let people assemble and talk what they want as it has been the case before. It’s up to each one of us to judge whether good or nonsense

  20. Was it really a rally or some public meeting of nearly all apposition followers in Lusaka and those bused in from down South?

  21. PF HAS SPONSORED SOME CADRES TO BLOGG ON LINE.MOST OF THE COMMENTS THAT YOU SEE WHICH TRY TO ARGUE ANY SENSIBLE COMMENT AGAINST PF ARE WRITTEN BY BLOGGERS THAT ARE PAID BY PF.YOU WILL NOTICE THERE IS NO SUBSTANCE IN THEIR ARGUMENTS BECAUSE ALL THEY KNOW IS TO COUNTERACT ANY COMMENT AGAINST THEIR PAY MASTERS

  22. even chiefs and kings are merely choosen, immediately they attract the respect from their subjects, stiff punishment is inficted to any subject found talking ill ,please dont abuse freedom of speech to insult your president at every opportunity, critisize and offer options to govts position on issues of governance, we then might see you as better.

  23. Its great to note that a rally was held even when the PF government takes leave of absence. Let Zambians have their basic right to assemble and express their opinion on the state of affairs. PF govt should equally stop fanning confusion in other parties as they sponsor Kachingwe and Namugala to cause mockery of the laws of Zambia. MMD certificate of registration is with the party and yet PF govt will pretend Kachingwe and Namugala can have meetings in the name of MMD. Where is the govt to check and monitor who is holding meetings without legal documentations. Shame on PF, may be that describes CNP governance.

  24. Every time before Mr Chilufya Sata opens his foul mouth, I wish he would hold on for a minute and THINK of the following about what he is going to say:

    T – Is it TRUE?
    H – Is it HELPFUL?
    I – Is it INSPIRING?
    N – Is it NECESSARY?
    K – Is it KIND?

Otherwise he should honestly learn to just shut up and save us all from this perpetual diet of “ifwabupuba”.

  25. Isn’t it interesting that in the 1990’s rallies were held throughout the country and there was no violence reported. When MMD was in power, the opposition held rallies and no violence was reported. Now PF is in power and the first ever rally by the opposition there is violence. Doesn’t that say a lot????

    • No man your memory is too short. There were plenty of peaceful rallies in 1990 just b4 Chiluba became President. UNIP was in power then.

  26. After all the farce these chaps made about permit one would think they would have a full ground at that basic school I counted 100 chaps on the photo. I’m feel sorry for these shameless noisy chaps!kikikiki

  27. Apparently there was a fight between stoopid UPND supporters and stoopid PF supporters and Ltimes tells us nothing about thism ati kupusa a mtola nkhani!

  28. Those of you who were there, what exactly did the main speakers say?

No one seems to tell us what was said. We know it was a political rally, but what were the issues?

  29. Kayombo don’t express you ignorance,we know how i didn’t you are…HH is a bitter pill that we should all spit out…gone are the days when opposition portrayed bitterness and spoke rubbish about the gvt…in Malaysia there will be elections this year in match but we are not seeing the kind of opposition we have in Zambia.. if HH thinks he has a better formula for development of which i don’t think he has…he should share it for the betterment of mother Zambia…PF is on the right track, its not about performing magic, its about putting things in order, one at a time until we all see the benefit..there is time for development and time for campaigning…advice your HH that elections will be in 2016 so he should leave PF to work…GO PF..seleni tubombeko!!

  30. It seems the ‘Napoleon is always right’ syndrome will be in Zambia forever! It is either you are PF or for the Alternatives.
The PF cadres will never see anything wrong with themselves but everything with the Alternatives.Firstly PF didn’t want the rally to be held and when they agreed Police where withdrawn and cadres were sent to cause confusion.Ask ZNBC,they will tell you!

  31. The question is which Political Party did the cadres come from?. From the bloggers here it is clear that this was a calculated move and your guess is as good as mine as to which Party the cadres came from! Lastly the issue of calling others Tribal…All zambia are tribal but others are more although they can’t see it.

  32. you PF thugs. am sure you are feeling the heat on your swelling assses. the main object of the rally was to demonstrate that freedom of assembly is a right which should be exercised by every Zambian not only those whose asses are aligned to the PF. UPND has proved a point to the PF. freedom of assembly is non negotiable even if you use the brutal PF cadres in police uniforms.

  33. Mr. HH don’t forget that bola ni 90 minutes Mudala. PF government has not yet failed as the part was merely finishing what was left by the former movement for multiparty democracy. Give PF chance to hang itself and if possible you start your campaigns in 2015 otherwise you will exhaust your ammunition for 2016 elections. remember you are fighting a seasonal politicians “don’t kubeba” mudala walapwa goleyagala

  34. United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says Zambia needs development that will translate into improving lives of people……How are you going to go about it? HOW? HOW?

  35. zambia vs nigeria…. zambia did not score in the first half but they scored in the second half. it doesn’t mean that Zambia failed to pull through ………. same applies to PF government we are in the first half. the entire 2014 it will be half time and then the second half will 2015 and 2016 respectively bwaufwa

  36. HH and Kakoma fought tooth and nail to get a police permit for rally, and once it was granted, Hungry Hyena (HH) decides to talk about Dr. Kaseba

    Uluse Imwe !!!
