Government denies firing two senior police officers for allowing UPND rally

Time Posted: January 28, 2013 2:10 pm
Former Executive Chairman of the Task Force on Corruption Max Nkole

Maxwell Nkole

Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Mr. Maxwell Nkole has refuted claims in a news story published by the Zambian Watchdog suggesting that former Commissioners of Police Ms Brenda Muntemba and Mr. Antonneil Mutentwa have been fired for saying yes to the UPND rally which was held on Sunday.

Mr. Nkole said in a statement made available by Ministry of Home Affairs Spokesperson that the story was not only false but also misleading.

He said the truth of the matter is that only Mr. Mutentwa had his contract terminated while Ms Muntemba has been transferred to Cabinet Office.

The Permanent secretary revealed that the contract of Mr. Mutentwa, who was Commissioner in charge of Administration, was terminated to allow him continue running his private security company based on the Copperbelt so as to avoid a possible conflict of interest with his appointment as Commissioner.

He stated that as of Ms Muntemba who was in charge of Operations, her contract with government still stands except that her chore duties will be defined by Cabinet Office.

The two senior officers have since been communicated to through correspondences over this development.

We urge the media to be factual and objective in their reporting unlike basing their reporting on rumours or false information as this is not only unethical but a danger to media practices.

According to The Zambian Watchdog sources at police headquarters said that the two senior police officers had been fired for saying yes to the UPND rally which was held yesterday. The sources said the  two had been against blocking of political rallies by the PF regime.

Thats an admission. You mean you have only just realised that Mutentwa has a security firm? And why is Mutemba moving to cabinet office now? Why the hurry when her duties there have not yet been defined?

These ***** always baffle me. The Watchdog gave us news and that is a point period. Muntemba is a police person what will she be doing at cabinet office and what were the reasons for her transfer? Don’t cheat us you crooks. We are already fed up with you. The downfall of PF will be soon than it was with MMD. The advantage is that your boss is already an old man and nature will soon take its course and we are all praying and fasting for that time.

These are senior Police officers who just about know how security apparatii work in Zambia and many countries. Familiarize yourself with how Dr David Kelly died over the British Iraq (45 minute) sexed up Dossier saga.

Another load of lies from the PF praise singers. Don’t think that Zambians are foolish. Unfortunately your damage control system is so defective that even a five year old can easily punch holes through it. Just look at the press statements from statehouse; so pathetic as if they are written in a classroom – no professionalism at all. So Mr Nkole, keep quiet because we know how you victimise those who think better than you. If one refuses to exhibit the kaponya mentality, you start feeling unconfortable hence the decision to fire them or “redeploying” them. Commissioner Mutentwa is a professional police officer as compared to the rifruffs such as Charity Katanga and Kasosa you have maintained. These are scared little rats who are prepared to kill for the PF, as they have been doing.

Bad timing on the part of the Zambian govt.
First and foremost, what is the difference between terminating someone ‘s services especially shortly after allowing the most hated rivals to hold a political rally in the backyard of the PF regime, and firing the same pair under the above pretence? If there is any difference, then that which is constructed as a difference is very blurred in that the architect of the above game cannot convince the masses that their actions in this regard are honesty.
The above actions are a true mirror of govt. reactions to honesty actions taken by the two senior police officers in their line of duty in serving the Zambian citizens. The PF regime must note that the police is tied to its constitutional obligations which are primarily to serve and protect…

2016 will be bemba vesus non bemba. bemba`s make up about 45% of our total population. The remaining 55% is a good trading ground for the opposition. It`s no use trying to convince a bemba that pf has failed. It`s like trying to persuade a thief that his fellow thief is also a thief, surely who would agree. So please stop fighting with bemba`s on pf failures, use the ballot in 2016, besides our laws do not warranty a 51% vote as longs the majority is in your favour, and so far the majority agree that pf is a failure.full stop.

Its always good to rermain professional even when your bosses tell you to do something wrong which may even be against your conscious. Rather be fired for doing the right thing than suffer in courts and jail when regimes change. We have seen lots of past so called powerful people spending most of their time in courts or jail when there time is up. Do the right things when serving people.

Katete @ #50, must be advised that this story has nothing to do with the Tongas, whom I respect more than ba scavengin Chimbwis and maize-invading ba Kolwe fields. This story is all about the rebased thining of the PF Govt. Former Police Commisioner at State House (Mr. Nkole) in KK’s era has just confirmed that indeed both Commissioners Muntemba and Mutentwa were actually fired for being professional. He is just trying to generate smoky fog to hide PF intensions on non-Bemba govt employees. The cryptic (hidden) features of the selective doctrine of “Donchi Kubeba” is gradually being exposed.

Am not a Politician and I was opposed to the Kabwata rally because of security reasons. UPND deliberately chose Kabwata as a venue for the rally to taunt the resident of Kabwata as well as the Govt. The UPND party is making a political capital out of the case of given Lubinda.
What PF should do is to expeditiously and amicably conclude the case of Lubinda and see if ever UPND will choose Kabwata as a venue any in a near future.
If houses of residents of kabwata were burnt and lives were lost what could Mthentwa and Muntemba have said over such a poor decision?
Its wrong to experiment on matters of Security.

but tuma HH puppies can vomit. each grz has its own way of conducting business, fortunately for pf they ve their own strategy for everything unlike some bitter frowning faced opposition leaders who want copy everything sata did to get into state house. Even the rallies they are crying for, they ve anything to say, its coz sata used to do it so we ll do it. They ve no issues; yesterday they proved that.

Surely we have full of bush products who claim they know to much when they do not know. By the way Brenda Muntemba and Mthentwa can not make a decision on their own they are junior officers. IG and deputy with Lusaka commissioner of police have a upper hand by far.Shallow minded people compare GBM, Kabimba to Mnthentwa who started the security firm on CB coz he is a cop. GBM started his business as a tenager. Inteligency indicates senior cops are involved in copper thefts and Mnthentwa is among them. Mutemba if she is not happy to head cabinet house which is second to state house then she can resign as run a law firm as some bush products said. She wants to be a IG but that can not be the case. upnd IS A VIOLENT POLITICAL PARTY HISTORY IS THERE TO PROVE.

I still dont understand. Mr Mutentwa`s contract was terminated because he is running a security firm? Now it means police officers must not do any other business apart from policing. That is not true I think. There should be something fishing.

Country men and women, the two senior plice officers in question have served zambia very deligently.Mr Mutentwa had a conflict of interest regarding the excutioning of his work as he runs a private security firm on the copperbelt.
As for Ms Mutemba she has been elevated to a higher position at cabinet office.
Fellow citizens the police face a lot of challenges to ensure that peace prevails in zambia, but few people with criminal minds always want to bring chaos and anarchy in the country.

Stop blaming other people for your misfortune in life.

Police have always been there even during the time that Michael Sata was in opposition. When an appointment is made especially senior staff, there is always what is known as security clearance. So the reason that this guy has a security co. should have been known. So that is a lame duck excuse. No. 2 promoting someone is a good thing but under such suspicious circumstances is questionable. We know that this Govt. can promote someone for their own narrow interest or schemes. Please PF we know democracy has eluded you try and focus on governance and ignore some of what your natural ego is telling you. Zambia is too big for your schemes. People vote you to Govern not fighting everyone like that you are ruling at the wrong time- Dictatorship is waning throughout the world even in Arab world.

THE TWO OFFICERS WERE APPOINTED BY THE GRZ. AND THE SAME GRZ HAS THE RIGHT TO DISMISS OR TRANSFER THEM WITHOUT CONSULTING SOME UNKNOWN BLOGGERS WHO HIDE THEIR TRUE IDENTITY ON LT. SO THERE IS NO NEED TO EVEN DEBATE THIS MATTER. AND BY THE WAY THE UPND RALLY WAS A BIG FLOP.

Thanks , I’ve just been looking for info approximately this topic for a long time and yours is the greatest I’ve found out so far. But, what about the bottom line? Are you certain about the source?|What i do not realize is in reality how you’re not really much more well-appreciated than you might be right now. You are very intelligent.
