A 19-year-old brother-in-law of Kafue Member of Parliament, Obvious Mwaliteta, has been found dead along the Lusaka-Livingstone Road in what police believe could be foul play.

Both police and Mr Mwaliteta have identified the deceased as Johane Lyakoka who was found dead between 02: 00 hours and 04:00 hours with deep cuts on his entire body.

Southern Province Commissioner, Charity Katanga, who was also at the scene of the incident, said police suspect foul play judging from the way the body was found without shoes and clothes with deep cuts on his body.

Ms Katanga, however, added that the real cause of death will only be established once police and the health department conduct a post mortem on the body.

Ms Katanga also issued a strong warning to political parties to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner, saying she will do everything possible to curb any crime to make Livingstone a crime and violence-free city.

“I want to warn all political parties that police will not sit idle to watch people commit crime or acts of violence but will do everything possible to maintain the peace and tranquility in Livingstone,” said Ms Katanga.

And Mr Mwaliteta who could not avoid shedding tears, said he suspected foul play as the boy had deep cuts on his body suggesting that a machete could have been used in the act.

Mr Mwaliteta also said the incident could be connected to political violence as the boy spent a night with friends at the PF campaign camp and that the body was found about 100 meters away from the camp.

“I strongly suspect foul play in the death of this boy because he was found just about 100 metres away from our campaign camp in Nottie Broadie,’’ said Mr. Mwaliteta.

Mr Mwaliteta, who is also PF campaign manager for Livingstone by-election, said the boy was not even involved in politics and accused the suspects of trying to frustrate PF campaigns which have gained ground.

He also accused some opposition political parties of hiring youths from Lusaka and other parts of the country to cause violence in Livingstone ahead of the election set for February, 28.

“We are aware that some of our colleagues are using some tactics such as the ‘Mapatizya formula’ but if this is related to this incident then it is very unfortunate,” he said.

He appealed to all political parties to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner and avoid ugly scenes of violence which characterized the last election where about two people lost their lives.

Mr Mwaliteta further said he has left everything in the hands of police to do a thorough investigation into the cause of death of his brother-in-law.

The body of the deceased is lying in the Batoka Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem.

  1. The body found 100 metres from the camp? The boy not even involved in politics? The police if they have common knowledge must pick up some cadres from PF camp to help with investigations. At 19 years you start involving yourself in politics just because your brother in-law is a politician? By the way what kind of campaign help were u rendering to bro in-law all the way from Kafue to L/stone? Hope u did go there to register as a Voter because in 2013 God will not allow mediocre.

  2. Dont write stupid things u dimwits, how du mock pipo who r grievin dont u realise dat de boy cud v bn murdered somewhere else and his body moved 2 smwhere near de camp 2 confuse half wits like u,i implore de police 2 get 2 de bottom of this gruesome murder n bring de culprits 2 buk.m.h.s.r.i.e.p

  3. Political violence from his camp PF, cz it must be his fellow cadres who did that so Mr MP should stop thinking the opposition did that cz from the wat he talked it seems he concluded so. Let him mourn his brother in law not talking about Mapatizya formula or youths being hired.

  4. Even him he was hired from Kafue and he is a youth. Why should the MP accuse other political parties of hiring youths without showing us evidence when it is evedent that his bro in-law was the one who was hired by PF from Kafue to L/stone? God has his own way of exposing evil.

  5. a sad development there, but the culprits are within the vicinity of the camp of pf. from kafue to go and die in livingstone, it leaves much to be desired. whatever is done in the shall be brought to light. there is no mapatizya formula that was used there.instead its the” pf slaughter formula” used in campaign rallies to get blood donations for reasons only known to them.

  6. Ruth Mbandu’s body was found near her parents house, less than 10 metres away, that did not mean the killers came from her home.Mwaliteta’s in law could have been killed from somewhere else and dumped 100 metres from the PF’s camp.If you analyse the same story on ZW,you can easly conclude that they know the killers. If I were an investigator,I can take ZW people as suspects. The motive being that they want to link PF to satanism in order to win elections.UPND cannot win livingstone seat with a clean campaign.

    • PF killed their own. I wish Mwaliteta had stayed in MMD, but that thuggery of Mwaliteta can be frustrate even the youth to pounce on his relative.

  7. The principal players well placed to carry out investigation are the Police, that is if their mindset has not been deformed by the current political schemes. The culture of panga-wielding cadres was conceived prior to the 2011 General Election, by Kabimba when he addressed wild PF cadres at the Freedom Statue in Lusaka. The of the death of Zulu in Rufunsa was accurately reported by the Police as arising from squabbles over money by PF cadres. Govt tried to implicate opposition parties, but their own legal system failed to concorct a formula to implicate innocent people. Recently, armed PF cadres were ordered to disrupt a UPND meeting in Kabwata as Police stood to watch from the fences. The Police can form a pattern. But the PF Govt has induced FEAR in the Police Service.

  8. we don’t know who killed this boy and why for sure and i just hope that the police will soon catch those who carried out this awful murder, however thinking that the boy was killed by the PF camp and using it as basis for making PF the main target of this investigation is silly to say the least. this boy could have been killed from somewhere else then dumped near his camp, this is a very common practice among criminals secondly, this was a 19 year old boy actually he was a man, so to report such an adult persom missing it would require a longer period of time, he could go for a walk, drink, talk with someone and no one would pay so much attention to him as they w’d to a kid. but this doesnt mean that the PF camp is ruled out as suspects!

  9. What was this young man doing in livingstone?the issue of bringing relatives to the chaps in government to come and help the Ukwa party win the by election has been exposed. At least we know now whats happening in the livingstone by election. These stupid thuggery tricks will not end.

  10. cook cum bro in law…if so,then mr mwaliteta is a strange man.honestly cudnt he get his bro inlaw a mo decent job-given his position, even that of a driver or beter stil tke him bk to sku..its shameful in our culture to employ ur bro in law as cook.wat msg were u tryn to put across to ur bapongoshi mr mwaliteta..?

  11. THe point here is , the boy had gone into PF camp camp according to the minister,The boy went intPF camp with freinds, the minister new who the boy was playing the forty night of this fate,Why join political camp, doing what, and the same minister says the boy was not a politician. If you are Good in invetigating such a case, Mr Mwaliteta’s statement is a good one to folow how the boy joined that political camp. So Get the PF Carders for questioning first. After this go the next suspects period. MHSRIP.
