The President is entitled to undergo medical reviews and treatment whenever necessary-Kabimba

Secretary General of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Wynter Kabimba

Secretary General of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Wynter Kabimba

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary general Wynter Kabimba has spoken strongly against MMD and United Party for National Development (UPND) leaders wishing President Sata ill-health instead of concentrating on issues that unite the country.

Mr Kabimba, who is also Minister of Justice, said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that it is sad that opposition leaders have resorted to discussing in the press the health of President Sata instead of offering solutions to the challenges facing the nation such as job creation and poverty reduction.

He said MMD and UPND leaders are exhibiting high levels of political immaturity by wishing President Sata ill instead of praying for him to remain strong so that he continues advancing the country’s development agenda.

“When President Sata was campaigning for the 2011 general elections, did they ever hear him say he is immortal?” Mr Kabimba asked.

“The President is a human being. It is, therefore, disappointing for leaders from MMD and UPND to wish the President death,” he said.

“You need to convince people to win an election and not to be banking on the death of someone else. As PF, we will leave this issue to the Zambian people to judge,” Mr Kabimba said.

Mr Kabimba said: “The UPND, when they came into a pact with the PF in 2008, were hoping that President Sata would die so that their leader [Hakainde Hichilema] could become president of the pact.”

He added: “Mr Sata did not die as they wished after the elections and they should stop thinking that the President will die soon so that they can win presidential elections.”

Mr Kabimba said it is unfortunate the opposition were staking their hopes of assuming office on an assumption that the President may die, saying this is tantamount to holding the wrong end of the campaign stick.

“You need to convince people to win an election and not to be banking on the death of someone else. As PF, we will leave this issue to the Zambian people to judge,” Mr Kabimba said.

He said President Sata is a human being just like any other political leader in the country who is entitled to undergo medical reviews and treatment whenever necessary.
Mr Kabimba has urged Zambians to stop entertaining opposition leaders who wish President Sata ill-health.

He advised all well-meaning Zambians against listening to opposition political leaders who are bent on criticising Mr Sata unconstructively when he is putting in his best to improve people’s living standards.

Mr Kabimba urged the opposition to desist from issuing statements in the media that have potential to divide the nation.

Mr.Kabimba should understand that his Government is the one that fueled speculation about Michael’s whereabouts.President Nevers Mumba was asking your administration to tell the Zambian people where their President was and what he was doing? Is this what you call wishing the President ill health?Next time do not hide vital information to the public involving where President Sata goes.

My feeling is that Michael Chilufya Sata should have been contented to remain as opposition leader. It is well known that while in opposition,he looked energetic and was able to move around in Lusaka while carrying Jerry cans looking for fuel. His persistence and eventual occupation of State House appears to be a curse on himself.Todate,he has not enjoyed his life in State House due to ill health.I wish him quick FULL recovery.

@ Sharma you are fun, that Sata used to walk with jerry cans (fibudiza) looking for fuel. That’s why Kabimba resorted to stealing fuel from transfugura, it was for his boss.

Mr Kabimba, I think you are addressing a different issue here and maybe this explains why you have never won a single case in court as a lawyer, because you don’t sit down to understand the questions.

The question people are asking is to do with the secrecy. The president did disappear . We don’t know whether he went to India or UK. Address the secrecy issue here and not the entitlement rubbish, everybody knows that and appreciates that.

I concur with you.Him and Sakeni are very useless when it comes to answering questions.Sata goes on these medical expeditions on tax payers account. It is important that tax payers know how their money is being waisted.Last time Sakeni was depending Sata for saying it is legal for the ACC to seek permission to investigate a corrupt minister. He started talking about protocols .Are these the types of lawyers we have in Zambia who do not understand a word in English?

President Sata is no longer in opposition, he is the head of state and govt so his movements and whereabouts are of national interest.

We all know that he is not immortal but it’s the govt’s secrecy on his whereabouts that cause people to speculate on so many things including suspected ill-health

We do not wish to have a situation like what happened when the late Mwanawasa suffered a fatal stroke where the then MMD govt spokesman, Shikapwasha announced to the nation that President Mwanawasa was fine and even jogging in the streets of London when not true.

You claim to run an open govt, be open on issue of national interest to avoid proliferation of rumours or else blame yourselves

I do not think Kabimba is right on this (accusing the opposition of wishing Sata ill health). Infact he is saying exactly what the opposition have said “Sata is only human” and therefore susceptible to ill health like everyone is and therefore the call from the opposition is for Govt to remove the secrecy surrounding Sata’s whereabouts and to inform the nation of his health condition so that, in part, people can pray for him. Obviously there are Politics included in the calls from the opposition but unless I misunderstood the statement attributed to Mumba and HH, I think Kabimba is saying the same thing but trying to politicise the calls from the opposition. However, the secrecy is the issue here!

Rewind a few years back when your leader took every opportunity to ravel in the sickness of one Levy Mwanawasa and one Rupiah Banda. It is because of that behaviour that people are curious as to what has befallen him. Mr Kabimba, you party hasn’t made things easy for your leader by witholding information on the Presidents health. His trip and condition has all been shrouded in mystry. Even in your statement, you havent said a thing but condemned opposition and all who have been asking for the truth. How can people pray for someone who they dont know needs their prayers?

I have said this before, even it came to the worst, God forbid, UPND has no capacity of winning a national election in ten provinces and take the Presidency, never, its not possible.

Intsead of wasting time, you needed to be addressing these political short-comings and make yourselves visible in other provinces, but going your Zambia Watch Dog editorial policy, you are doing the opposite, making Party look even more tribal and regional, you are hurting a lot of people in your senseless insults and hate language, how will you go to the same people for votes????

Always such arrogance from PF! And this is our “listening government”? Eish!

Serious, Wynter – pull your head out from wherever you have it stuck …even for a moment… and consider that no one is questioning the President’s “entitlement” to see a doctor (…although some do question why this has to be done OVERSEAS!), but are questioning why this is done in secret.

The President chose to enter public life when he became a politician and his well-being is an obvious public concern! Surely, the Zambian people are “ENTITLED” to some answers without Kabimba’s insults and snide remarks!

Of course, no one said Sata is “immortal”, but PF did insist during campaigning that he is “fit and in good health”. I suppose that was just one more donchi kubeba no one is accountable…

I’m now confused…when did MMD and UPND come out and say they wished for the president’s demise? All they and many other Zambians are asking for is transparency,
the same thing Mr Sata advocated for whilst in opposition. Going as far as lying that someone is in the country when in fact not is very irresponsible. A simple statement saying the president is attending routine medical checks would have avoided this whole circus.

I honestly think it is mad of Kabimba to think that by asking what is wrong with Sata is tantamount to wishing the President ill-health. That Sata’s health is in tatters is apparent for all to see. Instead of quiting on health grounds’ his continued clinging on to power is what is putting the future of this country in peril. His health and advise from doctors for him to work on three days per week when we contracted him for seven days a week is day light robbery, he should quit, pronto! If Kabimba or Zondwe himself are unsure of what’s bothering Zondwe, we can enlist some Sangomas to examine his heart and bollocks. Otherwise uno mwaka kuya bebele Zondwe.

Stop running away from the truth. When the president went to the summit he travelled on the presidential jet but after the summit the jet returned to Zambia without him, extra expenses were incurred for him to fly on commercial and vanish to an unknown destination. This is what really makes Zambians angry. Kabimba you are just a criminal.

No one seems to know who Sata is, politically, that is. What accounts for this man’s political staying power or ultimate destination is anyone’s guess. Everywhere he goes, he is greeted with the salutation of “King Cobra!” The 73-year-old ‘venomous snake’ is second to none among his political peers. Sata is every inch presidential material.

the constitutional provision in 55 above is what the executive is scared of. once they start admitting that the president is sick, questions will arise as to whether he has the capacity to continue as president. This is what MMD failed to do even when the late Mwanawasa had a stroke leading to his death (june to august 2008). What is important to note is that the provision is menat to protect both the president and the country. in this period where the president is not exercising full control, some pipo may be using the president’s mandate to rob the country. then there is the issue of the infighting on who will succeed the president which further limiting the whole group to provide the much needed leadership

I see a lot of irrationality in the arguments of”Kabimba” the blogger . When Obama goes for meetings of OAS (Organisation of American States) meetings in Latin America, he doesent disappear in thin air after the conference. Air force one heads back to Washingtone with full public knowledge. The only time the White House will not give prior information about his travels, is when he is visiting his troops in a combat zone. Even then, the American people and congress will be informed immediately after that operation. Does Kibaki, Zuma and Obama announce their medical visits? Who cares? Do they make unexplained disappearing acts? If they do, there citizens will demand to know! Grow up “Kabimba” the blogger!

We are also alive to the fact that PF senior cadres are viciously josttling for presidency of PF party among themselves. This may explain the mystification surrounding the disappearing of Sata. To serve Zambians from speculation those defending and involved in party president post should hide Mr Sata for keeps, so that the nation can have a direction of what next.

IN USA LIKE SA POLITICS ARE WELL REFINED AND DEFINED. THEY DO NOT MAKE CAPITAL OF HIS HEALTH. IN ZAMBIA SOME OF THE PLUNDERER’S (HH) LIEUTENANTS WERE CLEARLY CELEBRATING WHEN THEY RUMORED AMONGST THEMSELVES THAT SATA WAS DEAD. IN USA OR SA THAT IS TREASONABLE.

First of all, It is certainly NOT treasonable in the US to “celebrate” the President’s ill health as you say. Better is to learn something about FREE SPEECH before spewing your lies all over this site!

Also, if you notice (…yeah right), Mr. Obama’s health IS a public matter. The President goes for an annual health check and the doctors ALWAYS share a summary of the results. Look at how Hillary’s recent hospital stay was handled. The public was informed what was going on, NOT KEPT SECRET. Even in the Royal Family, the public was informed about the nature of Kate’s recent hospital stay. What? Is Mr. Sata better than royalty?

Honestly, your outdated view of an African president’s right to secrecy is not only childish but a threat to modern democracy!

    @SEKELETI

AMBULANCES AND SPECIALIST DOCS FORMED PART OF LEVY’S MOTORCADE AND ENTOURAGE. THEY WERE CONSTANTLY MONITORING HIS BLOOD PRESSURE.

IF IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE THEN WHY HAS THE YOUNG PLUNDER’S LIEUTENANTS MADE THE HEALTH OF SATA SUCH A BIG ISSUE?

THE MOMENT PEOPLE WILL MAKE OBAMA’S HEALTH AN ISSUE, HE WILL DISAPPEAR FROM THE PUBLIC.

PLEASE READ HISTORY ABOUT POST W-II WORLD LEADERS.

KABIMBA. With due respect to you my brother, your arguments are hollow and without substance. If Airforce one or indeed Marine one have provisions for medical facilities, doctors and news reporters, what’s it got to do with Sata disappearing to an unknown destination after AU? Do you really know the South African press? Its one of the fiercest watch dog press in the world that would leave no stone un turned if ever it suspected the South African people are being taken for a ride by the executive, over anything including the health of the President. This includes SABC which is government owned but not government controlled. The Kenyan press is equally vicious. So what is your argument Kabimba?

When I was in my early teens in the 70s and 80s, the years when Zambian professional boxers dominated Africa, when the prowess of boxers like Lottie “Gunduzani” Mwale (ba Jimmy) Chisanda Mutti and Charm “Shuffle” Chiteule, reigned supreme, there was a famous Zambian Boxer by the name of King “blowtop” Mwanza. Unlike the latter boxers I mentioned, “blow top” never lasted 2 rounds without being knocked out flat on the canvass! He was however popular with boxing pundits and the press and was famously coined “the King that never won a crown”, for “blow top” never won a single fight! Its true of Justice minister Kabimba. It is said he’s never won a court case. Neither has he ever won a political case because how come Given and GBM are still in the political arena despite a spirited…

DEAR COUNTRY MEN AND WOMEN, REASONABLE AND UNREASONABLE PF AND OPPOSITION BLOGGERS,…JUST YESTERDAY PRESIDENTIAL MOTORCADES OF LATE PRESIDENT MWANAWASA WERE INCOMPLETE WITHOUT AMBULANCES, DOCTORS, NURSES ETC. THE OPPOSITION THEN LED BY MY PRESIDENT WHINED FOR MONTHS ABOUT THE SPECTER AND COSTS TO THE NATION. BUT GOVERNMENT NEVER RELENTED. THE OPPOSITION NOISE DIED A NATURAL DEATH. WHEN PEOPLE REALIZED THAT LEVY HAD A SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION, SATA WAS QUICK TO APOLOGIZE AND MAKE PEACE WITH LEVY BEFORE HE PASSED ON. SO WHY SHOULD WE CONTINUE WHINING ABOUT SOMETHING WHEN WE KNOW THAT THE LOUDER THE SHOUTING, THE MORE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY WILL ESCALATE THE SO-CALLED ‘SECRET’ VISITATIONS TO DOCS?

    @ MUNA

SORRY MUNA, MY CHARACTER AND FAMILY VALUES DICTATE TO ME NOT TO PEDDLE INSULTS. I AM NOT A PF NOR UPND CADRE . BUT I AM A NUMBER 1 ADMIRER OF THE PRESIDENT.

I COULD, HOWEVER, CHANGE MY SUPPORT TO HH THE MOMENT HE WILL SHARE HIS WISDOM OF HOW HE HAS MANAGED TO ACCUMULATE SO MUCH WEALTH IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. ANDERSON HAD WORKED FOR IT. I WILL EVEN GUARANTEE HIM ONE MP FROM MY CHIEFDOM OTHERWISE I WILL ALWAYS REGARD HIM AS JUST ANOTHER ‘PLUNDERER’ IN WAITING – CHILUBA’S LIEUTENANT.

@ KABIMBA people like you are gullible. How many washed-up charges has HH been given since this govt came into power. If all what you and PF say about plunder even had a 0.00001% truth in it, you think your vengeful president would have let him loose. HH was managing partner of an international audit and consultancy firm, and that is not small job both in terms of position and money. He offered consultancy services to the Zambia Privatisation Agency and was paid for it. the final decisions on privatisation were made by cabinet which the currect president was part of. If there is anyone that has to be held accountable for the failed privatisation process, we must start with those that were in cabinet.
