Rupiah Banda is seeking asylum – Sata

President_SataPresident Michael Sata has accused former Republican President Rupiah Banda of seeking criminal asylum in South Africa.

President Sata has also accused UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and MMD president Nevers Mumba of also seeking criminal asylum in South Africa.He says the only free person among opposition leaders who held a press conference in South Africa is ULP leader Sakwiba Sikota as Mr. Hichilema and his MMD counterpart Nevers Mumba still have their pending charges to answer to.

President Sata says even if Mr. Banda was to seek asylum in a foreign land, government would ensure that he is extradited and have his immunity removed.
He further stated that South African President Jacob Zuma cannot even grant the trio asylum.

The head of State said this at State house this morning when he swore-in UPND Itezhi-tezhi Member of Parliament Greyford Monde as Agriculture deputy Minister.And President Sata has urged newly appointed Agriculture deputy Minister Greyford Monde to prioritize the interests of the citizens.

President Sata says the UPND, being a small and one man centre political party, has failed to develop Itezhi-tezhi.He has since welcomed Mr. Monde to the PF government, urging him not to listen to individuals advising him not to work with the government of the day.

And speaking in an interview with QFM after the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Monde said the main reason he decided to join politics is to serve the people.

When asked about his expulsion from the UPND, Mr. Monde said he is not aware of the step taken by his party adding that he will only state his way forward after he is served with an official expulsion letter.

But I can congratulate him for the statement that he has given that he has accepted the appointment to serve the people, unlike the reason that other dull defectors give like Namulambe and Masumba of bringing development because they will be in government now.     • Its disturbing to hear successive presidents associate developmental projects to a said constituency with an area MP belonging to the ruling party. It should not be the case. True that there is alot of lobbying given the scarcity of resources and its may be easier to be heard when an MP belongs to the ruling party. However, having said that, the government of the day ought to be impartial over development requirements of the people. It is heartless for the government to bypass genuiene need for development just because that constituency is for the opposition.     • The problem with most Christians is that they go to God not to ask for his will to be done but for him to endorse their secret agendas. On one hand they are asking for God to help whilst in the other hand they have the solution to what they are praying for. I do not expect a president to sink so low and waste time discussing things that do not even exist. He is talking like that because he knows others have no liberty to respond to the lies. We have a president who is so trivial and thrives on alarming the country to govern. His strategy is to divert our attention from his failures to these trivial issues. So what if people run away from Zambia? We want him to tell us how PF will work at reducing the price of mealie meal, ensure that our helath centres have adequate staff and drugs, our education system is relevant, etc. Asylum or no asylum is inconsequantial. Let the president be serious for once. He behaves as if he is insane.

This i.d.i.o.t Sata is talking about chasing after HH, Mumba, and Banda – but he turns a blind eye to GBM, Kabimba, Mumembe, and Nchitos. This will haunt him and his family for life. One day he will pay for these actions and may be that will be the day he says bye to mother earth.     Introduction
    The current republican president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma does not review any applications for asylum seekers. According to the South African constitution, Home Affairs officials are charged with the duties of screening applications of all persons seeking asylum in the republic of S. Africa. Zuma does not influence the outcome of asylum applications in that the supreme law of this country limits his powers. Any political intervention in the asylum applications in this country can be countered by the constitutional court’s decision of the land in Johannesburg. It is a process which can to some extent involve the supreme court of appeal in Bloemfontein, if as and when necessary. South Africa is not Zambia. Persecution exists there.

    • PF leadership’s harmfull rhetoric against the opposition for a protracted period is indicative of gross persecutions of the opposition leadership and, the rank and file membership of the opposition. Further, the Zambia Police has constructed an oppressive relationship with the opposition parties and, on one hand the police is seen as the driver of this unwanted relationship and on the other hand the opposition parties are unavoidable victims. When one reflects the addition of the above, the government of the day cannot escape the blame from other countries. The PF regime has created its own paradox, which was originally thought as being beneficial to its architect but it is disadvantageous to PF. Thus we now see Sata lamenting in the media. Nothing good will come out of PF’s rhetoric

Sata, in his myopic view, is using these opposition MPs to fight his battles with the opposition leaders who are reminding the electorate of his failure to fulfill the promises he himself made. After recent events, any sober leader would seek to calm the nation by holding some sort of press conference to address political violence, social instability and rises in staple food prices than peddling unsubstatiated statements. Now, when you listen to them they don’t even know to oppose sensibly; all they do is vent anger anyhow coupled with demonic envy. Be sober guys and stop insulting the presido since insults or name calling will not win you elections. Begin to strategise well and show us what you are made of by defeating PF in 2016 or 2021 (if atall you can) and form govt. At the rate UPND is going I really doubt if that can be actualised.

    • If you think anyone opposing to Sata’s nonsesnse is Tonga, you are mistaken. I am Bemba from Northern province. I also once liked his so called straight talk when freedom of expression seemed scarce in those days, not any more. As leader, the man has lost the plot and stands in shoes way too big for him.

    When you read this statement you will clearly see that the president does not mean well in appointing opposition MP’s.
    How do you say that about a leader of the of the one you are appointing?
    Even the one being appointed, at that statement should immediately turn down the appointment, because he is a product of that background.
    However, it shows that the person appointed does not in any way wish to work with the government while still maintaining his roots with his party.
    This is plain defection.

    This statement alone tells me that RB has already been tried and found guilty albeit through the tabloids which is a shame. When a leader of a nation becomes the judge, the jury and the executioner, you know you are in trouble. Sata as president needs to desist from making such statements. Let the matter be brought before the courts if necessary and let the courts decide whether the man is guilty or not. Cry the beloved Zambia!

  85. I was in town searching for my favourite newspaper – the Daily Nation. I am curious as to why The Post, Zambia Daily Mail and Times of Zambia carried the SAME front-page headline that “RB seeks asylum in South Africa”. This proves that the editorial boards of these PF-sponsored newspaters are controlled from State House or Ministry of Information or Bwingimfumu. I am curious!
