Two young men die from suspected witchcraft after stealing goods

Share

Two youths both of Makalanguzu village in Kazungula district have died from suspected witchcraft while others are now living in fear after they swindled an unknown business woman who went to buy goods from Botswana.

Patrick Machai and the other who has only been identified as Levy both aged between 22 and 30 died mysteriously recently after complaining of lower abdominal pains.

According to sources who did not want to disclose their names, the duo while acting with eight others are suspected to have stolen among other items a plasma television belonging to an unknown business woman who was coming from Botswana where she went to buy her goods. The sources said the woman in question had engaged the late Patrick Machai to be helping her carry her merchandise and take it to customs offices for clearing whenever she could come from Botswana for shopping.

They added that investigations on the ground are that some of the business woman’s goods went missing during her recent trip from Botswana after Machai and his team mates came to help her carry her items but they all denied that they had stolen some of her things.Sources said it was at that point that the woman started complaining and undressed in front of the people who carried her goods. She then told them that they will die one by one and that the last person in the group would get mad.

Meanwhile, Langison Matunga a Kazungula resident disclosed that before the business woman left for Lusaka aboard Mazhandu family bus she paid the young men the money they had worked for according to the agreement and promised them that she would have another trip to Kazungula soon.

Mr. Matunga who is Patriotic Front (PF) District Party Secretary said he was saddened to hear the incidence and said stealing is never a good thing as it can lead to such situations. He said the woman in question should have reported the case to the police station instead of taking the law into her own hands adding that the community should learn something from what had happened so that they can never get involved in similar predicament.

The late Patrick Machai was put to rest on Sunday while the other one named Levy was buried on Friday.

The business woman is suspected to have come from Kawambwa in Luapula Province while others say she is a Congolese national.

  1. Why was postmortem done to find the cause of death ?? I don’t believe in witchcraft, the woman could have said what she said to scare them in-case they are the ones who took her stuff. I feel the dead must have eaten contaminated food

    • Ubwanga bwena ekobwaba bane, why do you want to westernise everything kanshi!! lets call a spade a spade, period. Bali ba pressa abaiche, malibu yakuilombela mukwai…

    • The safest place to steal from is the national treasury or public resources because there is no collective witchcraft.

Proof: no one has bewitched Rupiah Banda

    • You have applied the scripture wrongly!! We have all sinned & one day we will die, its not because of our passed sins that we will die but because its time. In the Bible Death sometimes refers to hell, Life refers to heaven .

The bible says my people parish because of lack of knowledge. If i apply your thinking to this scripture all dull & ignorant people should die mysteriously like the two in the article

  2. “…The business woman is suspected to have come from Kawambwa in Luapula Province…”
hahahahahahahaha! So what are you saying about us “abausi”
NOTE: not abaushi. There is no letter “H” in bemba

  3. They probably died of an intestinal virus. It could spread if not detected fast. Let the a postmortem be conducted. It could also be poison from the other gang members of the swindled their friends. There is no evidence of witchcraft here.

    • Very dull secretary, he is very ignorant about the law! Anyhow about seven people are dying now because they slept with some body’s wife, eeh!

  4. “Sources said it was at that point that the woman started complaining and undressed in front of the people who carried her goods”.

Makes Sad reading. If trully they Stole “MTSRIP” — MAy Their Souls Rest In Pain”

  5. THEY PROBABLY DIED OF AIDS RELATED INFECTIONS!!!!!
AT LEAST THEY DIED AS HAPPY PERSONS HAVING VIEWED THE PUSSSSSY OF THE SAID KAWAMBWA WOMAN FREE OF CHARGE

    • You see!!! African Science has just been demonised, otherwise it can work positively if given a platform for explaination. A western mobil phone was also a whichcraft gadget before the makers were given a platform to expalain what really goes on…. Lets good room to African science to feed int the mainstream knowledge base.

  6. Ignorance (and therefore fear) is directly proportional to knowledge. The higher the knowledge, the lower the ignorance, and vice versa…

  7. Very dull secretary, he is very ignorant about the law! Anyhow about seven people are dying now because they slept with some body’s wife, eeh! Elyo lwanya aba sompa amakala pali ba mukamwine balepwa ukufwa. Ukunyenga kwacila.

  8. Mr. Matunga who is Patriotic Front (PF) District Party Secretary ……….” said the woman in question should have reported the case to the police station instead of taking the law into her own hands…………….”

Dull Seketali, this statement is misplaced. That is the problem with copy paste.

  9. I’m amazed the article reports the witchcraft theory as if it were credible, which it is not. References to witches in the Bible are of no consequence, either, as the Bible also forbids the eating of shellfish and pork. And wearing clothes made of both linen and wool. And men shaving their beards.

Can you see the relevance of invoking the Bible here? No, nor can I.

Zambia is a Christian country. Belief in witchcraft does not fit a twenty-first century Christian society. It just has no place in modern Zambia at all.
