he Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on the Copperbelt has arrested popular local musician “’Dandy Crazy’ for trafficking in Cannabis.

And the commission in Lusaka has arrested a 26 year old Zimbabwean woman for trafficking in ephedrine.

This is contained in a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by DEC Public Relations Officer Samuel Silomba.

Mr Silomba said Dandy Crazy whose real names are Moses Wesley Chibambo 36, residing at house No. 4817 Ndeke village, Kitwe has been arrested for trafficking in 14grammes of cannabis concealed in the pocket of his trousers and also in the compartment of his unregistered Toyota progress.

Mr Silomba also disclosed that Yvonne Chada, 26 of house no. 205 Tamboti Denvil Johannesburg, South Africa has been arrested for trafficking in 10.2kg of ephedrine.

He said the suspect was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on arrival from India en-route to South Africa.

And Mr Silomba has said more than 40 people countrywide have been arrested for trafficking in illegal drugs in the last five (5) days and the suspects will appear in court soon.

In another development, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested two Immigration officers in Kazungula district in Southern province for various corruption offences.

The offences include being in possession of obscene materials, abuse of authority of office, theft, possession of property reasonably suspect to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, and theft by
public servant and fraudulent false accounting.

This is according to a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by ACC Acting Spokesperson Queen Chibwe.

Ms Chibwe said the duo Christine Banda Lukwesa 44, of plot no 1156 Kazungula, an Immigration Assistant and Nasilele Sakubita Namate 35, of house No. DNB 297 Dambwa North an Assistant Registration Officer were arrested on 5th March 2013 and face six charges between them.

She explained that on the first count, Mr Namate being a public officer in the National Registration Citizenship and Passports office with intent to defraud, did make entries on the quadruplicate of receipts purporting to show that some named person had paid cash when in fact not.

She further said on the second count Mr Namate also stole original government receipts valued at K310,000 (KR310), property of the government of the republic of Zambia which came into his possession by virtue of his employment.

Ms Chibwe said the two offences occurred on dates unknown but between 31st May 2007 and 24th May 2009.

She affirmed that on the same dates, Ms Lukwesa failed to account for possession of 26 original government receipts serial numbers reasonably suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

The ACC Public Relations Officer also revealed that on dates unknown but between 2nd June 2008 and 29th January 2009, jointly and while working together with another unknown person, MS Lukwesa did steal general receipt book valued at K2.5 million (KR2500) property of the government of Zambia.

“On another count, Ms Lukwesa also did have in her control or possession property namely two houses at plot No 1151 and Plot No. 1156 in Kazungula, Hino Ranger truck registration number AJB 7426, Toyota Hiace minibus registration Number AJB 7416, Toyota Sprinter registration number AJB 6772 and Toyota Mark II registration number AJB 7413 altogether valued at K437, 941,215 reasonably suspected to have been acquired fraudulently” she said.

Ms Chibwe disclosed that the two suspects appeared in court yesterday and pled not guilty to all their respective charges.

Let’s see whose case will reach judgement earlier: Dandy Crazy or Akapelwa? Because Dandy sand the PF national anthem, I expect the Director of Public Prosecutions to delay the case and in the end enter a nolle prosecu… Meanwhile, I predict that Susiku Akapelwa, for calling sata stupid, will be jailed by tuesday next week. In zambia we have even lost our sense of humour! The air in the country stinks!

THE CASE INVOLVING DEFAMATION OF THE PRESIDENT IS STRAIGHT FORWARD WHILE THE CASES MENTIONED ARE A BIT MORE COMPLICATED AND REQUIRE A LOT OF EVIDENCE, SO, YOU ARE RIGHT TO SAY DEFAMATION CASE WILL BE DEALT WITH SWIFTLY.

I am of ze opinion DEC shud b following serious cases bcoz a simple cost-benefit analysis will attest to ze fact dat it was not worth it pursuing ze singer as far as Luanshya for a mere 14grammes of cannabis, surely wat is the value in relation 2 costs incurred 2 arrest him. 4 yo information in Holland they even hav cafes wer pipo can freely enjoy the stuff. Why all the intimidation over fwaka ya chingoni!

14 grams is nothing. Come on. Let the man go. Trafficking, as if he had huge quantities. Such a small amount calls for a fine of less than 30 US dollars, or a week of community service. Ba DEC, follow the real drug dealers. Follow the heroin trail from Tanzania to Chibolya.

IT MAYBE NOTHING IN QUANTITY BUT THE DAMAGE IT CAN CAUSE IS SERIOUS. WORSE STILL THE AUTHORITY DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH WAS HIDDEN AND FOR HOW LONG HE HAS BEEN DEALING IN THE SAME. SO, THE LAW SHOULD DEAL WITH THESE CHAPS WHO DEFILE SOCIETY WITH SUCH SUBSTANCES IN A VERY FIRM WAY.

Point taken Peter but please dont get me wrong, i do not condone his habit at all. The thing is he has been like this ever since. Why make a big deal of arresting him now.
I say go after the guy who supplies Dandy and Suggest rehab to Dandy = had we such facilities because as others have already rightly pointed out my guess is, that amount was for his own consumption… Am just saying there are bigger fishes out there for DEC to fry.

How do you arrest someone with ganja meant for his consumption and label him as a drug trafficker.I don’t think he is a pusher. What I want to believe is that Dandy is being silenced.I have reliable info that Dandy is about to release a song to apologize to the Zambian people for being part of this Gon’ga government during campaigns as his song was so critical in duping the Zambian populace into voting for this lie riddled boma!My appeal to Dandy is to release this song even behind prison walls.Good luck King Dandy.
