First President Kenneth Kaunda has said Zambians should wholeheartedly adopt the spirit of togetherness in the country.

Dr. Kaunda said the spirit of togetherness was an important gesture which all citizens must forever live to cherish in order to foster economic prosperity in Zambia.

He said this today when journalists drawn from various media organisations and officials from Ministry Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection planted trees at his residence ahead of the World Press Freedom which falls on May 3, every year.

Dr. Kaunda said the tree planting exercise, which is being spearheaded by government, is an important programme because trees support life.

He said today’s tree planting exercise symbolised the growth of the media industry in Zambia.

The former President said the tree planting exercise should continue to be implemented in many parts of the country.

And speaking at the same function, former Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chairperson Henry Kabwe said journalists should reflect on their past achievements as they celebrate this year’s World Press Freedom Day.

  1. Kaunda can no longer give fatherly advice because he has already shown his love for PF. All this is hypocrysy because it is the same Kaunda who has brought divisions in Zambia by aiding the PF recruit members of the opposition political parties. It is a shame for the big man to allow himself to be disgraced by the PF thugs. He has eventually lost even the little respect people had for him. People were willing to forgive him for the oppressive regime he presided over but he was so foolish not to realise that by siding with Sata and the PF, he was opening old wounds. Now we are angry with him again and are very disappointed that he could cheapen himself in the manner he has done. We have not forgotten how vigilantes used to beat us on queues for sugar, soap, mealie meal and other essentials.

  2. “Sata is a good boy”- KK. Mr. President, too little too late. Unfortunately, u aint the right person to talk about this Gospel anymore. Goodnight!

  3. It is really that simple – the spirit of togetherness is all we need. Forget the politicians and for once think about us as Zambians. Do we really to be fighting and insulting each other through tribal lines because our politicians are doing so? Absolutely not. We have lived together peacefully for too long for a few big headed politicians to spoil it.

  4. Kaunda Kenneth, whatever they call you, you damaged your status as father figure when you sided with zambia in exchange for 5 pieces of silver. The only persons who would listen to you are Bembas now. Everyone else has turned their back on you and have realized that indirectly you dis empowered our folks while doing the opposite to your Bemba folks. Can’t you just disappear because we are fed up with your demented brain. Just continue supporting your UKWA because your days are numbered.

  5. Ba Mudala actually when you apply yourself you can give us good advice cos unifying a nation is your forte. You have got more experience at doing that than any living Zambian. However, hunger at times drives you to give wrong advice. Like asking everyone to support PF

    • It is really common sense to support the Govt in power as that is what democracy is all about. The Govt in power has to be given a chance with constructive criticism. Unconstructive criticism from the word go – is just counter productive. KK is talking sense and by the way he is not Bemba. Read your history.

  6. Tongas again. Listen and heed to the advice. Long Life Munkombwe Long life non tribalists Tongas!! My sister is married to a Tonga and they have got 13 children. Should he hate me his mulamu because I`m Bemba? These days we even fear to visit them in Monze, because of this element of tribalism. Wait your days will come it`s God who appoints leaders as it is written in Romans 13:1-7, be strong when we come to criticise you also when you will be in power.

    • So God appointed Idi Amin, Musolin and Hitler who massacred 4 million Jews? Get some education and grow up! That’s warped and bizarre kind of thinking. That’s the problem with you Bembas. Your over sized mouths think louder than your brains.

    • Iam a Lozi and my wife is a bemba from Kwa mununga and we have 16 children the oldest being 30 years old. So its all one Zambia one Nation!!! No tribalism!!!

  7. Shame on you KK. It is now ONE ZAMBIA ONE TRIBE AND THAT TRIBE, “BEMBA” So what nonsense is he trying to tell us. Just wait our time is also coming!

  8. What about that woman u are planning to marry, where is she.? Let her not reap where she did not sow

  9. KK PREACHED LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF. BUT IN PRACTICE HE NEVER ACTUALLY DID SO. THAT IS WHY HUMAN RB REVENGED THOUGH VENGEANCE IS WITH THE LORD.

I AGREE WITH MOST BLOGGERS. KK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOVE MANDELA IN THIS WORLD IF ONLY HE HAD NOT RETURNED TO POLITICS.

EVEN AFTER THIS BIG BLUNDER, KK HAS CONTINUED TO BE PARTISAN INSTEAD OF SPEAKING FOR THE OPPRESSED AND MARGINALIZED.

WHAT A WASTED OLD MAN! ANY WAY, DESPITE ALL THIS I URGE ZAMBIANS TO FORGIVE OUR FATHER OF THE NATION. HE IS NOT GOD, AND ALL OF US MAKE MISTAKES.

THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN TAKE AWAY OUR HISTORY. HE HAS BEEN IGNORED WORLD OVER BUT FOR US ZAMBIANS HE STILL REMAINS OUR GREAT FATHER!!

LONG LIVE KK OUR FATHER OF THE GREAT NATION OF ZAMBIA.

  10. KK CAN U MARRY LOMBE CHIBESAKUNDA,U CAN BE A GOOD COUPLE.I KNOW U STILL HAVE A BIT OF SOME POWER.YO ADVISE IS WRONG BCOZ U,VE SIDED WITH UKWA THE MAN VULTURES,VE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BCOZ OF HIS ILLITERACY AND IS NOW PRESIDING OVER A GOVT SIMILAR TO SHAKA ZULU,S REIGN.U,VE LOST IT NOW AND ZAMBIANS NO LONGER TRUST U.U ADVISED ZAMBIANS NOT TO VOTE 4 UKWA COZ HE WAS NOT PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL NOW WHAT HAS CHANGED THAT.THE MAN IS REALLY JUST AS DESCRIBED HIM.

  11. “He said today’s tree planting exercise symbolised the growth of the media industry in Zambia” . Yes, after his term of 27 years controlled the media and fed the nation stupid propaganga while everything was falling apart!

Hypocrite old man, learn to keep your mouth shut before you make more foolish comments!

You destroyed freedom of the press while in power.

  12. KK is bad for Zambian politics. This old man is a doubled edged sword. Today he tells Zambians that Sata is not presidential material the next day he says he is a good leader. Same mouth sure! He was still bitter with MMD and wanted anything that would take out MMD. I think when he hears that children of former leaders in other countries are leading it pains him but he never mentored even his own kids. Shame. Where are his memoirs? God is watching over Zambia and he will protect it from evil deeds.

  13. Chimutali @ # 10 ask your sister if Tongas are tribal. She will tell you how humble they are. 13 kids is not a joke. Your sister is enjoying fantastic pipe down south baba that is why she has stayed to mother 13 kids.

    • Chimutali is just an illiterate wanna be and most of his friends are Tongas and dies with envy inside for his own poor planning and no ideas to improve himself.

  14. “World Press Freedom Day”? is there anything like that being celebrated in Zambia. The country where journalist have stopped writing to “inform, educate, empower” etc but they now write what their masters, pay masters have tell them to write. Its a shame that they even went to KK house. Instead of giving good guidance to the citizenry of this country KK has now become a moron!

  15. it is difficult to understand kk because what he says is far way from what he does.l wonder his this the same man who walk with nelson mandela and martin luther king.this two people fought for equality than what kk is doing siding with one group(pf).

  16. Even if Zambia had run out of pipo to give advice, I would never get advise from this chi mafonko fonko. This cimonkey brot this misery we going thru.
