Shamenda defends PF’s recruitment of opposition

The Labour and Social Security Minister, Fackson Shamenda who is also Ndola Central Member of Parliament says the Patriotic Front government is an inclusive government which wants to have ministers from all corners of the country.

Speaking when he addressed heads of government departments at Council chamber in Itezhi tezhi district yesterday, Mr Shamenda said there is nothing wrong for people from other parties scramble for government positions.

“There has been a lot of criticisms that we are causing by-elections by poaching opposition members of parliament. That is not true. The appointments are meant to ensure PF government has ministers from all corners of this country,” Mr Shamenda said.

He said that the party has a lot of Legislators whom it can appoint in various government positions but they are looking at inclusiveness.

“There so many good and hard working ministers like Dr Patrick Chikusu who is not being harassed by his party and he has continued working for the people of Zambia,” Mr Shamenda said.

He also said that his party cannot stop opposition members of parliament who want to join PF because they have a right to belong to any party.

Mr Shamenda also defended the appointment of more deputy ministers by his government saying that without them work would be very difficult for cabinet ministers.

“We need deputy ministers because those people help us a lot. We cannot be everywhere every time and deputy ministers help take government presence when cabinet ministers are not able to reach certain places where government presence is required,” he said.

And Acting Senior Agriculture officer, Petronela Lubasi said that government has not been confirming people who have been acting for a long time.

Ms Lubasi said that many people have upgraded their qualifications but have not been elevated or confirmed and have been acting perpetually.

But Mr Shamenda said that government is working out modalities to address those issues adding that public services will now be an enviable place to work in due to continuous PF government’s policy to improve conditions of civil servants.

He said that the government from September will be paying their lowest worker K3,200 and challenged private institutions to match up with the government standard on paying their workers.

Is Shamenda Government spokesman now?

#2 Comment By Chilinga On May 13, 2013 @ 9:48 am

Shamenda should be ashamed of himself. How many FOUNDING and royal PF members are languishing as back backbenchers in Parliament and qualified for appointment as Deputy Ministers who have continued to be ignored in preference for MMD MPs who never campaigned and suffered for PF.

Ni cibombebombe kabili. It means amongst the PF cadre there is no human resource to implement the promises they promised.

The opposition should devise another strategy. That’s why starting threats as a strategy it becomes hard to use other forms of strategy now the option is ‘compromise’ and if it fails that’s the end.

Shamenda should be ashamed. Where on earth does a Govt encourage such an expensive political dispensation? And pretending to be an all inclusive Govt. these old morons should know that we are aspire to be a democracy and induced political prostitution is not democracy. Never, in the history of Politics, have I seen such undignified prostitution from people who are supposed to champion our moral fibre. What a state of shame for what was a beacon nation….
Ati “we are an inclusive Government” and yet you kill your own just to keep others out of parliament.

We keep on borrowing the money to fund by elections ….its heart breaking when you see how our friends have developed..How can you be a patriot in the country with no hope and direction? Thats why a simple statement from the Veep about SA to some Zambians was like insulting a god..We cant stand on our feet..Today even nigerians are managing to colonise us through their movies..We dont have our fundamental beliefs that can show that here is a Zambian….God help us…

“Lies, lies lies; lies for breakfast, lies for lunch & lies for dinner – lies all the time” said former President Dr K D Kaunda – and these remarks are such a befitting description of the PF. If these appointments were genuine and made on merit and in the interest of representivity why don’t these opposition MPs get get full ministerial positions?

Actually, we need a Ministry of By-Elections … And I imagine the incumbent being the busiest minister in the PF cabinet…

#21 Comment By Supernova On May 12, 2013 @ 7:52 pm

They are consolidating the PF numbers in parliament so that they ratify a useless, pf friendly constitution.

#22 Comment By [email protected] On May 12, 2013 @ 7:56 pm

I’m sure PF can make use to ministers regardless of which party the belong to. Does an MP have to resign and join PF to be able to server the country?

This nonsense from the government of the day has to come to an end. We are going backwards VERY quickly, focussing on trivial things such as by-elections and chasing after money that has been chewed. Can we focus on job creation, adding value to the quickly depreciating Kwacha, mending international relations and generally governing the nation.

I look for the day when I can read a headline that reads “PF has actually done something to benefit Zambians – not just themselves”.

My poor country — what have we done. We have no wars, no natural disasters, no enemies – yet we are dangling at the bottom of everything.

Wake up…
