Labour and Social Security Minister Fackson Shamenda says increase in the retirement age from 55 to 65 years will help curb corruption in the country as older people are less likely to engage in any form of corruption.

Speaking to QFM News in an interview, Mr Shamenda adds that government is convinced that the increase in the retirement age will not have any impact on job openings for young people.

He says the PF government will strive to create more job opportunities in the country.

Mr Shamenda has since dismissed assertions that the increase in the retirement age will worsen the unemployment situation in the country.

And Mr Shamenda says Parliament will have the final say on the approved 65 years retirement age.

He explains that the decision to increase the retirement age is still in the consultative stage and that government is currently debating with stakeholders on whether to put the retirement age at sixty or sixty five years.

Mr. Shamenda has since appealed to Zambians not to rush in criticizing the move as it is not yet law.

    • when the old folk retire give them access to funds to setup small holdings let them employ the youth. the young people with degrees and MBA’s should take up the vacant positions.

    • lets have free minds, Mr Shamenda would still be useful on the stands. even Mourinho has a young team at Chelsea now.

  1. you ***** you are old en corrupt wat makes you say old pipo are not corrupt. You should even be cutting yo hair dirty man….we have young graduates in streets and you are plann to bring back yo old corrupt friends back to work. Learn to create space for others. Actually if those old corrupt friends of yours had brains they would have created Der own firms to create jobs for young ones, but due to the fact that dar were corrupt der have achievd nothing. Am assuring you that come 2016 you be voted out.

  2. Who is the major stakeholder in this issue? It is the worker! Ask the worker and he will tell you he wants to retire early. don’t ask irrelevant “stakeholders’.

  3. Mr Shamenda Sir: Have street vendors stopped selling razor blades now? Oh sorry; you chased them away from the streets…

  4. Does he mean that this time around! What an absurd reason, corruption knows no age,how many above 55 years are trotting to court over corruption and abuse of office cases? I think we need minimum qualifications for some positions!

    • the clowns that we hav as representatives cannot make any rational statements. Greedy fools. Even Munkombwe has nothing to offer ths country, but he is holding office. Pisses me off

  5. Awe naimwe ba Shamenda. You have got it all wrong. How old is Liato, RB, Maxwell Mwale etc. Some of these pronouncements are made without thinking. Maybe you lack serious intellect sir. Fili uko tuleya

  6. I won’t be surprised if F&*kson retracts this statement after 7 days…this is the selfsame reason officials should retire; exhibit A F&*kson Shamenda.
    We deserve better than this!!

  7. WHAT A FAKE REASON COMING FROM A MINISTER I THINK THIS GOVERNMENT IS LACKING INTELLECTUALS,HOW CAN HE SAY THE REASON WAS BECAUSE OLD MEN ARE NOT CORRUPT MINISTER YOU RESEARCH BEFORE YOU MAKE PRONOUNCEMENTS YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT DO UNDERSTAND OLD FOLK.

  8. In which sweat shop are these Zambian politicians manufactured? These are intellectually challenged and dirt stinking rascals! Most of them don’t even seem to bath at all!

  9. Says who? Old people are more corrupt because once they retire they have no more income so they will indulge in anything to make a quick buck!

  10. Sometimes it better to keep quiet and let people wonder if you are a F***l or not than speak out and remove all doubts!!!

  11. Fredrick Titus Chiluba- Young?
    Rupia Bwezani Banda- Young?
    Xavier Chungu-Young?
    Austin Liato-Young?
Yes they are all very young people Mr. Minister.

  12. This govt is really full of sick and unreasonable ministers. Are these not the same peoplke who campained with the promise of youth employment? Now these same younths have become corrupt? How old was Mr Sata when he deposited grz money in his personal account and pocketed the interest? Was that not corruption? How many youths are in the courts of law facing corruption charges?

  13. Irony at its best! The nonsense coming from this old guy is astounding. He is a testament to why they should be retired earlier!

    ROFL

  14. Lets take a step back – there might be some truth to what he is saying – analysing this rationally: At about that age, they start losing brain cells, become senile – thus their capacity to corrupt, i presume, is ever reducing – true I guess!! However , i guess this goes in parallel with the ability for useful ideas!!!

  15. Nigger please! Anyone with a brain knows that you are deferring the payment of packages because you’re bankrupt. Don’t try and con us Nigger!

  16. A young director in the name of victor mukonka stole global funds from ministry of health. so maybe it is true the young ones are corrupt.

  17. Blogs, what is Shameenda trying to justify? His age or something? Come guys lets not bit about the bush retire the pipo at 55 pay them off so that they can start on something whilst they still have energy. This Problem finder (PF) is running away from paying huge amounts of retirement benefits. By the way, who would like to work up to that age? Carry out a survey from up-right workers and you will be shocked at the findings you foools. Already we have so many retirees rooming the streets waiting for their packages. In-fact retiring in Zambia is like a night mare. Most of the pipo who have retired end dying without getting heir benefits, Ba Tata wabufi nabanenu please do not increase on the age of retirement twapapata .

  18. I have a problem with turning Labour Leaders into Labour Minister. Successful labour leader are rabble rousers; while Labour ministers should be strategists. The two are not congruent. No wonder we have all this nonsense. Can we please have the right people for this important job.

    • You are spot on Kavundula,it is a great mistake .These guys are usually not high achievers but demanders only without producing .They are very corrupt and power hungry like FTJ and his third term bid.In Australia for example, political parties do not entertain anyone with a Dr title as their leaders because they have proved that they are arrongant, narrow in thinking and have no touch with reality on the ground, just the same way Nevers Mumba is struggling to lead MMD!As for Shamende i think he’s naturally dull ,nothing sensible seem to come out his dirty mouth.

  19. Old man – star by tending to your personal hygiene. You look like you need to be reminded.

Next, consult with your deputy/assistant/whoever-is-paid-to-make-you-look-good because you have just made an ***** of yourself by spouting nonsense that a 2nd grader would know was nonsense.

Third – for fcuk’s sake change your name. Fackson makes you sound even more foolish than you actually are.

  20. Hon Shamenda is correct.Young people are the most corrupt. In most countries nowadays, retirement age is 65 years. You Zambians just argue without carrying out research. Why do you always remain behind ? Use your brains and not based on your small political parties which does not benefit the country.

    • Thank you ben Kangwa ,enjoying the tribalism of the PF in America doing nothing nothing at the embassy apart from blogging on behalf of your evil masters,Ka?

  21. Sir your reasoning is not adding up to reality. Which age group is appearing in courts of law for corruption? Is not the above 60 years? I can support you if you increase it to 60 years, not 65 years sir.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
