The opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) has welcomed the decision by the Patriotic Front (PF) government to reject the request by the Technical Committee Drafting the Country’s Constitution for an extra six months extension in which to complete its work.

The Technical committee’s request for extension of its timeframe to December 31st this year would have implied the provision of a supplementary budget amounting to forty four million Kwacha rebased.

Director of Communication in the Office of the MMD president, Muhabi Lungu has told QFM News that government’s decision to compel the Technical Committee to stick to the June 30th deadline is justified as there is no need to prolong the constitutional making process.

Mr. Lungu who was part of the recently held national constitution conference further notes that recommendation and amendments that were made to the first Draft that the Technical Committee presented were not extensive for it to prolong its work.

He has since advised the Technical Committee to hire more draft persons if having few draft persons is the reason why it wanted to have the deadline moved to December.

    • That statement to refuse the extension of the constitution making process was made by the red lips kawimbe..right!
And still waiting for statements from sakeni, Edgar lungu acting president , maybe from Guy scot also and Sata himself,, then i will compare those statements before i state my opinion,,,
Because with PF you never know the truth!!!

  1. They are not sure when they can finish they will still need some more month when u give them that six month so let them jst finish before 30th of june period, initially it was 90 days

  2. We in MMD believe in supporting where credit is due and that ‘s what democracy of civility is all about. We need progress to the constitution making process. The timescale that was allocated was realistic and no extuating circumstances have occured in the nation to drail the time limit. With all things being equal the process should be completed by 30 june 2013 as per set date.

  3. This is a very broad move taken by justice Minister, this process is long over due and colossal sums of money had been spent both in MMD and PF government on same document. So reason given not to extend this process is very justifiable. Thumps UP kabimba.

  4. These are sign of a failed technical committee! Extension will not make them do the work, they knew what they doing when making the plan and they must stick to the plan and budget. They are now failing us period!

  5. Good MMD, this is how it should be…where credit is due give it . Not always opposing even if a thing PF_GRZ is doing is good.

This technical committee with its people want to reap where they did not sow forever. What is so difficulty writing a 400 paged, 4-spaced with 14-sized Font manual? Let them for the three weeks remaining not sleep but continue writing if at all they were not writing. No extension please.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. IMWE BA POMPWE MU LEIBA FYE MUTATAKUYA. CHAPS YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN LONG ENOUGH TIME TO HANG A JACKET ON. JUST CONCLUDE YOUR JOB AND GIVE US THE CONSTITUTION. TASHIPWA KULOWA.
