Justice Minister, Wynter Kabimba, says he will not support a constitution that is tinted with a foreign image.

Speaking during a meeting with the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) at his office this afternoon, Mr. Kabimba says he is concerned by the statements made by LAZ that government is reluctant to come up with a people’s driven constitution.

Mr. Kabimba, who is also Patriotic Front (PF) General Secretary, says LAZ needs to understand its mandate and boundary when it comes to governing issues, adding that there should be a distinction between LAZ and government.

The Justice Minister says there are some implied innuendos in the statements that LAZ make regarding the constitution making process and has urged them to be realistic in providing checks and balances.

Mr. Kabimba has also revealed that Cabinet has approved the change of name from Judicial Reforms to Legal and Justice Reforms and has since urged LAZ to closely work with government in ensuring that people receive quality justice in the country.

Speaking at the same meeting, LAZ President, James Banda, says his Association remains committed to continue providing quality checks and balances on government.

Mr. Banda says he is not afraid to state that there is a big problem in the judiciary which needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

He has told the Justice Minister that the issue of Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda cannot go without a comment.

Mr. Banda has asked Mr. Kabimba to address the problems that are surrounding the country’s judiciary.

He adds that there is need to constantly dialogue with government on issues that are affecting the judiciary.

Mr. Banda says government should not feel intimidated when LAZ comments on the constitution making process because the association wants to have a clear map on the constitution making process.

  1. When will this nominated MP ever stop talking. Or is it that he doesn’t just Diaharrea resulting full FULL BLOWN AIDS but DIAHARREA of the MOUTH.

No one takes you seriously DULL LAW Student. Just go hang yourself in your village.

  2. Silly stance. Did you allow foreigners to make material contributions to the content of the Constitution or was it Zambians who presented items for OUR new Constitution?

Kabimba, that document you are referring to is not yours alone, but ours together. You and your colleagues in government are only there as facilitators for what we the people of Zambia want.

If the next Constitution will be a PF-driven Constitution, then be assured that you alone will need to abide by what will be in it, and do not expect Zambians to honour it.

  3. kabimba or chibimba should not think that he’s important in zambia.what contribution has this red lipped snake made to zambia’s development?

  4. That’s how it is when the boys suddenly can’t believe they have all the power and public resources in their hands to enjoy with their families and girlfriends

When they are chauffeur navigated through the streets of Havana, Beijing, Khartoum, Ramallah and Harare, its like the World has shrunk right into their palms. ” I will not accept a constitution tinted with a foreign image”.

In his feeble imagination, suddenly all those thousands of Zambians that contributed to the constitution making process become “foreigners” or get controlled by foreign forces. Folks, we are in maningi trouble!

  5. Are there any foreigners on the committee spearheading this process AI kabimba? Please don’t be intimidated bane! LAZ is right on! Mr kabimba don’t be overwhelmed man! Just live up to our expectations period!!! We are the electorate not ghosts! SHAAAAA!!!!!!

  6. Why did you constitute the commission if you not ready to accept the out come. it just the the Salary review commission was constituted and 12 to 20 commissioners went throughout the country, but up to now, nothing.

  7. “I will not accept”….really, kaKabimba??? Who died and made you King?? That power that you are wilding right now was handed on a silver platter to the PF government, who had the courtesy to invite you to share in the gravy pot!! So, normally the power should still belong to the people !!! The constitution must be a people-driven constitution, as in a functioning democracy, NOT a dictatorship, where the top brass hold all powers!!!!! If you are not prepared to accept some of the clauses included during the constitution making process, why have you let this process come this far, only to deny the people of a comprehensive, people-driven constitution?? Instead, you want to give them a PF-driven constitution??? Who the HELL ARE YOU?????

  8. All Zambian politicians are dishonest. Kabimba is just behaving like the late George Kunda – devious, selfish and dishonest.

  9. Kabimba-You’re wearing foreign clothing, you shop at shoprite, ride a foreign car using foreign oil and you’re serving a country curved out by a foreign power.Even the constitution you’re using is a foreign concept so you might as well go back to the village and live a primordial life like you ancestors.

    • Tell this lunatic please,he’s too ahead of himself.hope you are banking some money you are stealing in Cuba ,because when tables change bwana you won’t even access a tablet of ARV!Mark my words ,you’ve gone too far bawishi.

    • If there is one message, I would like delivered on Kabimba’s doorstep, it is this one! Well said my brother….

  10. The reality we feared is here. The lion which entered the kraal in a sheep skin has now taken off the sheep skin.

Zambians must just brace for a one party driven constitution. Forget about parliament saving the current constitution draft as the party in power has the majority. Even our gullible voters will not save this costly draft.
Which foreigners contributed to the content? Our 2011 vote has come to haunt us. Who will save this draft constitution? It is gone. Time 4 their celebration while we mourn the its death and that of democracy. That is what it means to have a weakened opposition.

  11. Democracy came too easily. Those of us who were adults and enlightened during UNIP rule from 1964-1991 know the real difference between a dictatorship and democracy. That is why we were skeptical about the ideological approach of the PF. Had a feeling it was taking us back to those dark days. KK is having the last laugh. His system of governance is back in full throttle.

  12. Mr. Kabimba, is it Constitution for the PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA or for the Government? As the Government of which you are part was put in power by the PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA, it is your DUTY to respect wish of the PEOPLE and NOT impose your failed demagogue wish on the PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA

  13. This was exactly the way GOBBELS the Nazi propagandist behaved. Other peoples’ opinions are inferior to his and dont count. What egos are these// The end is always disaster

  14. For a change this constitution MUST NOT be about the preservation of the party in Government. It seems that is what the PF want it to be. That is the same reason why previous constitutions were found wanting because the Government manipulated the process to favour their own objectives.
