A Non Governmental Organization advocating for Human Rights and Democracy, Zambian Voice has commended the performance of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) from time that Justice Irene Mambilima took over the position of chairperson.

Executive Director Chilufya Tayali has singled out the censuring of the public Media’s biased reporting during elections and the reprimanding senior government officials that violate the electoral code of conduct as some of the notable achievements that commission has scored under Justice Mambilima.

Speaking to Qfm in an interview Mr. Tayali says such a trend that the ECZ is exhibiting in the country should be encouraged and that the civil society in the country will rally behind the ECZ in the quest to ensure there is fairness in the country’s electoral system.

Meanwhile Mr. Tayali has condemned the recent statement that Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba made against the ECZ.

Mr. Kabimba was quoted as saying the ECZ is working with the opposition to undermine government after the ECZ acting public relations manager Sylvia Bwalya released a statement in which she described the allowing of Paramount Chief Mpezeni to speak during a Patriotic Front (PF) campaign rally in Chipata as an abrogation of section 129 of the Republican Constitution.

Mr. Tayali notes that by virtue of being Justice Minister Mr. Kabimba should recognize that ECZ is an independent body that has the mandate to regulate and control the electoral system and that if the ECZ come up with a decision as it did, it is not up to the Justice Minister to start challenging such a decision.

Mr. Tayali further notes that with such a statement that he made in the media to criticize the ECZ, Mr. Kabimba allegedly needs an orientation of how he ought to conduct himself as Justice Minister.

    • Her friend the acting Chief Justice would do well to learn from Justice Ireen Mambilima. These politicians come and go. Your integrity is what will help you. Keep up the good work and give some tips to your friend Justice Lombe Chibesakunda. What she is creting will help her rapidly lose respect and one day when she tries to stand, she will realise even small children will have no respect for her.

  1. Mr tayali ,kabimba is just stupid don’t mind mind about that dull, useless minister.Infact this should worry Sata to have such kind of ministers who can’t even elaborate anything.

    • @Tom the problem Sata if u look at how chiluba weaved his cabinet , Chiluba was smart and knowledgeable , birds of the same feathers bro, if presido is smart like Obama hes gonna chose his cabinet once . reshuffles day in day out that rings bells.

  2. Opposition parties should strategize voter tabulation check, otherwise Pf will by all means try to rig the coming by elections.am sure someone in the op will do us a favor by leaking some information before these elections.pf is now a hungry lion.

  3. Justice Mamblima worthy of a woman president- Very distinguished Justice with a bigger vision of the country, very courageous, educated and of sound mind. We salute her.

  4. How did Kabimba managed to graduate at/from UNZA to become a lawyer?Did he pass the exams at ZIALE or some one wrote the paper for him like his friend at The Past did.

    • Nine Chale you are still there and mr know it all as usual. How old are you ? Retire and leave to us now. And please get back to Zed you will die in German. Take children home old man.

    • PF international cadre Nine Chale, you are stilling blogging ?My foot ,you are useless as Chibesakunda .Just read manni, your pro PF sentiments have exposed you pants down. And where is your friend Kalos 2020, whatever?Shame on you.

  5. Its amazing how when the opposition lose then ECZ is corrupt and when they win Justice Mambilima is dignified. Dont get me wrong, I believe that she is indeed respectable and professional. It was annoying to se Kabimba attack the ECZ, yet he has never complained when PF wins by elections. Anyway, PF leadership has proven to be intellectually inconsistent.

  6. Keep up the good work Justice Mambilima, if only the rest of the heads of departments followed your example.

  7. Hon Kabimba is a well respected and intelligent lawyer. His point of view on T.V was very clear.ECZ should not take sides.During the MMD era,the same ECZ was there and not even once did they voice out on how Presido Sata was being abused on ZNBC almost on a daily basis. What has changed today ? ECZ was supposed to be an office of appeal and not the partisan stance they have taken. They should reflect and change for the better.

    • If Sata was abused in the past by the MMD using ZNBC then PF must learn from that mistake and change things for the better. They were elected on the platform of ending corruption and promoting good governance in general. So they cannot start repeating or delighting in the same vices they condemned. If Kabimba wanted to show anger he should direct it at his won party as they failed to do what they needed to,to win the seats. Let him pick a leaf from Chuumbwe and Edgar Lungu and leave the ECZ alone!

  8. Professional, intelligent, educated and above all very brave you are Justice Mambilima. You bring something different to the table and that’s what we need

  9. The PF are likely to make some changes at the ECZ since they are power drunk and can’t stand the Rule Of Law. ECZ has been lucky so far since PF has been winning but with this threat to power, things are bound to change and you better keep a watchful eye. Even Chief Justice will be an option for Mambilimajust for Sata to keep ECZ under his control.

  10. Is this the same mambilima people wanted out of office ? Now that the opposition wins she’s a darling . Typical Zambian culture , if the opposition is not complaining then it is the government .

  11. Mambilima….mambilima… mambilima. Opposition trounce ruling party and ECZ are heroes. Are they not the same ECZ that rigged elections in this country with the help of shu-shu-shus. where were they when Sata was insulted at political rallies and called gay just days before the 2011 elections? where were they when RB paraded chiefs at rallies in 2011 and 2008. Think Zambians.

  12. I satana am not happy with Justice mambilima, as u know u are better than chibesakunya and winter kamibya. I have lost the next bye erections already and dr kaseba will not attend to me. I propose you report yoself to sata house so we can map the way forward. How can I stay in sata house beyond 2016 without being impeached I mean being embalmed?

  13. Justice Mambilima, you bring hope. Hope of a fair and just society for Zambia. Bless you dear lady!

  14. For some reason, when I look at you ma’am the words “Chief Justice” come to mind.

  15. Kabimba and M’meembe please don’t kill this lady ,twapapata, leave her alone ,you are so desperate for blood, and sooner or later we might start seeing political assassinations and blame it on the opposition through the devil’s killer Judge Ngoma and the militia which you Kamibya personally control ,we are watching you thugs, 24/7!

  16. I would like to congratulate the ECZ and Justice Mambilima for the hard work. Dont be intimidated by anyway as long as you govern by the Zambian Laws. You can even do better as Chief Justice.

  17. Winter is not a lawyer. He is a council worker. I mean, how many cases has he won, whats his truck record in terms of law? Winter is just hallucinating he is drunk with power simply that. he should respect institutions of governance such as ECZ.

  18. She should have nullified the Livingstone by elections then she would have had my full respect, she must be feeling guilty this is why she is trying to do the right thing. I am sure she has come to apoint where she feels if the President wants to fire her, he can go ahead she will just do the right thing. I am happy though she has looked inside herself and looked back at the trend of elections in the country and decided to be professional as she did in 2011 under pressure from the MMD.
