THE Government has called on citizens to join the nation as it celebrates the country’s attainment of 50 years of independence next year.

Government has further implored all public bodies, the private sector as well as individuals from all walks of life to start making preparations on how to brand the country to mark Zambia’s Golden jubilee of independence.

Acting Information and Broadcasting Services Minister, Fackson Shamenda said the Golden Jubilee celebrations would be held under the theme“Commemorating God’s Favour of Zambia’s 50 years of independence for continued peace, unity, democracy and prosperity.”

He said government wishes everyone to make the year of Zambia’s Jubilee truly the year of God’s favour by going an extra mile to do something good for the country and its people.

“I wish to announce that Zambia will this year commence the commemoration activities to mark the country’s Golden Jubilee which falls next year when the country turns 50 and to mark the attainment of this important milestone in the life our beloved country, Zambia, Let’s make Zambia clean and let’s make Zambia proud.” he said.

He said this year’s theme aptly spoke to the nation’s recognition and eternal gratitude to God, the Creator for preserving Zambia as an oasis of peace in a world often beset by civil strife and other calamities, both man-made and natural.

Mr Shamenda said the celebrations re-affirmed the supremacy of God in the affairs of this nation and the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation and dedicated the country to a future of continued peace and unity of its people.

Mr Shamenda said the theme further aspires to encourage the nation to continue to pursue the ideals of democracy and to strive for prosperity.

He said the theme most reminded the nation that the jubilee celebrations would not leave any remarkable memories unless the nation developed and cultivated a strong sense of patriotism and recognized love as the supreme love for one’s country.

  1. What are we celebrating especially in this age of PF misrule? FYI Singapore is 50yrs too but they have a huge GDP,excellent healthcare, world class infrastructure and jobs worth celebrating.

    • Ba Enka mulekwatako insoni how can PF be blamed for the 50 yrs? Which opposite direction are you talking about? If you have nothing to blog keep your small nzelu within your clan of bena Mbwa, just barking at anything passing. Zambians lets congratulate ourselves for the 50 years of serenity. We have a lot challenges indeed but country does not. We have homeless and starving people even in America and China.

    • Enka……,Zambia turns 50years old next year, PF has been in power for less than 2years, you mean to tell me that in those 47 years and half Zambia was a supper power economically, socially, in short all was rosy until Ba Sata and his crew show cased?
Whats wrong with us black people? are we demented or its just me? maybe i have been in slumber, please someone wake me up and give me all the developmental 411 Zambia enjoyed that has been demolished by PF in less than 3years!
Am sorry i cant even believe you right now, i actually have no words, let me end here before i get all worked up, i think you are suffering from amnesia or something.

    • Enka actually has a point. When you inherit something,no matter how good or bad, you are supposed to make it bloom or better. The argument that those who were there before never made zed a superpower should not be an excuse for mediocrity.

    • @wow:At the moment its not about how long it takes, its what direction you’re heading and at this time PF is taking zambia reverse instead of forward.Do you build a hse before you lay a firm foundation?

    • Enka stop just stop, which developed country came back after a crisis, not even Europe after the great depression, oooooooohhhh, stop Enka, you will make me see through you, wow just wow! can you even go on bragging about this issue, please N grow some huge B*****lls and shut up!

    • @ Cindy: you must be blind or willfully ignorant.Germany was destroyed and came back stringer,Japan same case and Rwanda went ot hell and back and its now putting Zambia to shame.

    • Mzambia, it took europe 50years to fully come back from the great depression,am lucky to have met the people who went through it, who walked miles and miles of kilometres for days in search of food, i have friends with grand parents who made it after six days just eating leaves, dont tell me am blind i forgot to mention that it didnt take Europe 3yrs to come back cos i was furious with your pals unrealistic and ilogical comments.

  2. We need a full presidential address from HMCS. He should take this opportunity to speak to the citizens of Zambia with a open heart. Non of that political rhetoric and cheap and unnecessary jokes.

  3. You mean we should celebrate when your carders are busy terrorising and beating up people who do not support you, for the first time in Zambia’s democratic history we has seen that people cant freely express themselves, Such celebrations should be put on hold until we see democracy and freedom comes back to our beloved country

  4. I hope these PF characters know the implications of The year of Jubilee.I pray they seek from the genuine Men of God to educate them on the Spiritual and practical meaning of The Year of Jubilee.Because looking at the PF governance record in relation to the what what happens in the Year of Jubilee,PF will lose grip on mishandling the governance issues. And Indeed ZAMBIA SHALL BE SAVED.Thank God for Dr Nevers Mumba to have seen the Salvation of Zambia afar off.

  5. …Imwee just prepare yourselves and celebrate. You wasted 27 years with KK, 20 years with Chabala Kafupi etc., and today you are calling ba KK as the father of that Nation? Like it or hate it, you have to accept the celebrations because you have no choice, Zambia is your home and country and you have nowhere else to go, home is home.

Whether you like/dislike Michael Sata(na), you are stuck with him till 2016. Learn to accept and appreciate what is around you and that, you have never before have had a WAR within. Try and travel to other countries (in your case, CONGO DR) where there has been turmoil, massacres and RAPE! That’s when you will appreciate that even that thief ‘ALA BEE” was/is better. As the Bembas would say; ‘some ***** called on BEES and what happened? Shamububa….

  6. What exactly are we celebrating? The deterioration of the country at the hands of the PF, children having classes under trees after 50 years, people with no food on the table, government officials running to South Africa (whom that delinquent Guy Scot called backward) for medical treatment and ignoring the needs of the local hospitals or thousands of unemployed youth? Instead of wasting money on your celebrations, address the above. At the end of the day this is a PF celebration and not for the country.

  7. I think people have their right to view this celebration however they feel, yes it’s understood considering the circumstances which is 100% normal, but lets take this opportunity to tell our leaders what we want to see happen, this should be a platform set to get get their ear, give them a mirror of what’s going on, what has actually transpired in the last 50years, this is a chance to make them see where they have been going wrong.
People we should know how to use some of these functions, celebrating of certain things does not necessarily mean a “celebration”, it brings an opportunity to confront ourselves with reality. Take advantage of this day, maybe just maybe someone will give an eye and ear all because of the mood on such a day.

  8. I pray and hope i will be there next year because am also turning 50 , it will also remind me of when we did the match past in 1974 when i was clad in a military uniform and only 10 years old .. I thank God for the years because i have lost alot of friends along the way. Those that we marched with from Mumuni , ST Mary’s , Lusaka Boys and Chisengelumbwe Primary school’s when i was at Burma Primary School and are reading my thread wish you a Golden Jubilee in advance .( maybe your father or mother was there please wish them the best)
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  9. We celebrate absence of war (peace), absence of colonial rule (though Guy Scott is ther now), absence of forced labour with shambok etc…the theme is misplaced. KK’s time,so many killings, dictatorship (the theme doesnt apply), Chiluba’s time,so much theft (democracy by word), Mwanawasa’s time, fixing th predecessor’s wrong doings (had a vision of democracy though he had bad eggs arround him), RB’s time, protecting his presidency, lack of priorities (media fights wth the opposition-PF), Sata’s time, nominations nd firings, lack of consistency nd focus, fear of his own shadow (party is more important than government)….am a proud zambian,i’l celebrate the absence of colonial rule.the rest doesnt add upto 50yrs.

    • Hahaha, you’re unbelieveably deluded to celebrate mediocrity. Its like celebrating being #8 out of 10 and tellin yourself that “at least i wasn’t last.

  10. “Celebrations would be held under the theme, Commemorating God’s Favour of Zambia’s 50 years of independence for celebrations would be held under the theme“Commemorating God’s Favour of Zambia’s 50 years of independence for continued peace, unity, democracy and prosperity.”

i dont see any continued peace, unity, democracy and prosperity in Zambia, i guess this only applies to ministers. This are bad for a common man Mr. Shamenda.

  11. thanking god who allowed the europeans to colonise you and turn most of you into slaves?lets just work toward the betterment of our country & its people than comforting poor people using supersitition

  12. Too many on this blogg are brain washed like finished linen such that what ever they read from the internet such as ZDW IS REAL. Some have been over seas for decades and have never stepped their feet on Zambia’s soil.
Go and see what is happening rather read and be brain washed like the media in the develop world which reports on nagative things about Africa, disease, povert, crime, under develop and the list is endless when the might USA her own citizen can not afford meals, pay bills and so for. Change will not come by yap yap yap yap but by working together whether we disagree or agree on our politcal idealogy or concepts. Zambia is ours and where ever we are is just a second home. We Bembas say ‘shilunga no kubwela.’

  13. I know a couple who had a lavish wedding. the marriage itself is a disaster and both are desperately unhappy, but they still celebrated their 10th anniversary with a huge party – to which they invited everyone, most of whom were aware of the state of the marriage.

  14. pipo lets jst thank god that we wil reach 50yrs wit piece in our lovvly mother land unlik other countries eg egypt, syria, iraq etc.
