His Eminence, Cardinal Mazombwe passed away in Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital at around 17.40 hours Zambian time.

Cardinal Mazombwe was born on 24 Sep 1931 at Katete in the Eastern Province of Zambia.He was ordained a Catholic priest on 4 September 1960 and become Bishop of Chipata Diocese on 7 Feb 1971. Between 1996 and 2006, he was the Archbishop of Lusaka until his retirement in 2006.

On 30 November 2010 the then Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI created the Emeritus Archbishop of Lusaka, Medardo Joseph Mazombwe, as Zambia’s first indigenous Cardinal, at a public consistory held in St. Peter’s Basilica, at the Vatican.

Cardinal Mazombwe has held several senior positions in the local and regional Church, such as Zambia Episcopal President (1972 – 1975; 1988 – 1990 and 1999 – 2002); and as Chairman of the regional conferences of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (A.M.E.C.E.A.) 1. my condolences hes was a great man we as Solis will miss him alot he always came to bless our ceremony every year who will bless this years ceremony?MHSRIP

  2. No person can be Holy only God the creator of Heaven and Earth. The pope is not holy but just flesh and blood like any one else.

    • Those of us that are born of Him, are holy because He is holy

      Leviticus 20:26 Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy;
      1 Peter 1:15,16 but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.”
      John 10:34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
      Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you;

    • The Holiness that the scriptures talk about are in relation to God for man. Not the way the pope is treated as holy father as if he is almost God if not God. Read the catholic journals and you will understand what I am talking about. I ask that you ask God to give you understanding and revelation of Psalm 82:6

  3. MHSRIP! A great man he was & a true servant of the Lord. I’m just skeptical about burying him at the Cathedral. I think the church should look for an alternative place and leave the cathedral grounds exclusively for worship and prayers & not make it a burial site. As a devoted catholic, I believe the church will set an inappropriate precedence to bury the Cardinal at Pope square.

    • It is not a bad precedence. It is a universal Catholic tradition that Bishops be and are burried @ the foot of their Sea. In this case it is the Cathedral. The Cathedral is the host of the Bishop’s authority. The official seat of leadership is there. The “Cathedra”, where the Bishop speaks as the shepherd and leader of the local Church “diocese.” That’s why even Popes as Bishop of Rome are burried under St. Peters square. However, may the soul of this humble servant of God His eminence Late Cardinal Mazombwe rest in God’s eternal rest.

    • This idea of burying at the cathedral or in any church is the most magnificent idea, we all came from God I do not see why we should not be buried in the temple of the Lord. At least during catholic funerals I wish I were catholic, they bury their dead in a grand manner…..imagine me lying at rest eternally in the seat of the most holy, heavenly, father Himself……why is everybody not buried in the church or at least around the church? Catholics are leading us on this one, why don’t we follow suit, after all we all come from the catholic church historically!!!

  4. Let this good, humble archishop be buried at the Memorial park. I don’t understand why the Catholic Church likes to bury their archbishops and bishops at the church. No wonder the Catholic Church is a spiritually dead church with most of its members being demon possessed.

    • This is why the catholics are far much ahead of all of us stupid pentecostals, and why the anglicans and all traditional churches try to imitate catholics and us pentecostals remain behind thinking that once u die u are useless but thrown away in the bush, and therefore r afraid to die, especially to die poor. I think catholics are honoring their dead by burying them in the Lord’s temple.

  5. Are you guy’s comments being moderated every second like mine? I suspect someone at LT has beef with me for being honest in my coments, for the past 4days they moderate even just typing, RIP………
    LT get off my wagon let me express my freedom freely wats up with you?

  6. these are the true worshipers of idols, pentes are the worst shouting as if the god they worship is deaf. i don’t know what to do, the world is crazy.

    • @ Mr. Update u r just evil, too lazy to commit yourself to worship thus looking for excuses to remain away from church……do not condemn yourself for your evil-deeds coz no sin is bigger than God’s love, just humble yourself and visit the Lord’s temple…God is one the rest is politics. Just go and mourn the esteemed man of God….I am not catholic but I believe the cardinal was a true servant of God, church and our country.
