President Michael Sata’s message of condolences

President Michael Sata this evening viewed the body of late Cardinal Merdardo Mazombwe at the cathedral of the child Jesus.

The president who arrived at the Cathedral of the child Jesus was accompanied by Commerce Minister Emmanuel Chenda and Education Minister John Phiri.

Immediately after viewing the body, Mr. Sata went to sign the book of condolences at 17:35 hrs.

In his message of condolences the president said he was mourning Cardinal Medardo Mazombwe and that may his soul rest in peace.

The late Cardinal retired archbishop of Lusaka and a longtime campaigner for foreign-debt reduction, died on Thursday last week. He was 81.

In a telegram to the people of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, Pope Francis praised the late cardinal’s “unfailing commitment to the spread of the Gospel in Africa and his tireless efforts on behalf of the poor.”

A statement from the archdiocese said, “Cardinal Mazombwe’s optimism and courage in the face of cancer inspired many that visited him in the last 12 months. Even as he grew weak, Cardinal Mazombwe never gave up his passion for the affairs of the church and the nation.”

Pope Benedict XVI had named him to the College of Cardinals in 2010, four years after the archbishop retired as head of the archdiocese.

The Zambian prelate rose to international prominence in the late 1990s as a vocal advocate for the world’s poor countries, particularly those unable to provide for their citizens because they were making massive payments on debt to First World banks

    • Tell him to use his `nice` handwritting to make those fighting to stop.

And to tell you the truth he copied that handwritting from FTJ.

    • He didn’t write that, it is chella who wrote it. I know how the man writes . I worked with him in local government before.

    • Normal people do not indicate their positions in society when they sign a book of condolences. That is a very disgusting thing to do ! You mourn a fellow human being because that’s what humans do irrespective of their status!

    • Nice handwriting for sure but the words:- We mourn with Cardinal Medardo.

The Cardinal is dead, how do you mourn WITH him futi?

    • @Goncalves: True, that just goes to show the lack of morals, etiquette and humility in MCS by even writing Presido….in a condolences register!

@Nubian Princess: That’s the first thing that caught my keen eye, the “WITH”…lol

    • God is on my side, that the supporter of M.C wabwino Sata are the ones spotting catastrophic events in “his own writing” Sata.
These 2 people need fired tomorrow:
      – Man in-charge of presidential affairs, he was supposed to prepare Sata with what and how to write. And a pen to use not a BIC!!!!
      – George Chella’, to let tell unforgivable horrific mistakes by President get hold of by other people, including me. George was supposed to read that immediately before taking pen from M.C Sata. He should have read it, correct it and turn page for the poor-uneducated-president.MHSRIP.
      Nalamichusha its your fought.

    • How does Sata mourn with Medando who is dead anyway.I thought he was morning the passing on of Cardinal Medando and therefore May His Soul Rest In Peace.

    • aleisa, aleisa aleisa! Sata nje nje nje, NO mau

He cant write properly, the man has problems, the people who made him collapse are afraid his soul, its time to pay ..lelo lelo lelo lelo

    • iwe..
      niba atea aba.
he just forgot to include ‘family’ at the end of that sentence.
why pick on small mistakes that are irrelevant.

    • @Mature 2.2 :small mistakes count alot especially in western societies. You can’t write like that and land a job as a columnist in western papers or keep african time if you want to be taken seriously. For and african small stuff don’t count but to a westerner its being detail oriented.

    • How can one mourn with the deceased….????? Only if that person is in the same place with the deceased!!!!!! Its more like the dead mourning the dead…Ha ha ha ha

    • How do you know what to write when you’re mourning? Okay, don’t say FTJ didn’t warn you when he told Mr. Sata “I saved you as they wanted to pass a vote of no confidence in you having failed to write minutes of NEC several times as the language you used was more Taiwanese than English. All minutes sounded more Taiwanese than the official language of English putting punctuations such as comma and full stop only where you stopped to breathe”.

  1. The handwriting is all over the map ..didn’t they used to teach people in old Welenshiki days when to use small letters and capital letters. Looks like the man mixed them all up. Maybe there is some truth to a Grade 2 story after all. he should have enrolled in a writing night school at least since he has always had presidential ambitions

    • aleisa, aleisa aleisa! Sata nje nje nje, NO mau

He cant write properly, the man has problems, the people who made him collapse are afraid his soul, its time to pay ..lelo lelo lelo lelo

    • The man signed twice kwati ni pa cheque!!
He forgot to write his official title “Chief Mourner”. Since he only appears at funerals & that Mukwa table of his (ichilapilo), where he feels “godish” by making people swear before him

    • Too much English football. Why can`t you talk about Musole Sakulanda or Ndobe Sakeni`s transfer from Zesco united to Nkana for example ? Lets support our local teams and not Madrid.

    • Too much English football. Why can`t you talk about Musole Sakulanda or Ndobo Sakeni`s transfer from Zesco united to Nkana for example ? Lets support our local teams and not Madrid.

    • i cant believe the level of thinking mr. update. zebige mwandi tell him. why is he always thinking of white mans football leabing or should i say forgetting iyaku myesu. support local team.

  2. I can reproduce this signature, no problem. Maybe I can issue some constructive directives by mail…….

  3. Who cares aboutu a Welesnky hand writing. There is job insecurity and fear in the civil service because the rulling party is at war. Thats the issue now not handwritin. Why should we only see a president at funerals and swear in ceremony . Let him address us. We have burning issues

    • He just got the name Merdardo wrong, ooh and forgot the word family for the sentence to make sense but all in all it’s good job for his humble education.

    • The late cardinal’s name is spelt Medardo and not Merdado or Merdardo (as you seem to suggest). Check how it’s printed at the bottom of the visitors’ page.

By the way, why did the president use capital letters for soul, rest and peace?

  4. Sata needs to go back to school to learn proper writing without capital letters between a sentence or grammatical errors that change the meaning of what is being communicated.

    • Even u, u dnt knw how to write. How could u write ‘between a sentence’. Go back and check in grade 8 text book when to use the word ‘between.’

  5. Busy handwriting letters instead of sorting out the in-fighting in his party…in all honesty if you can’t sort out your own domestic issues how on earth can you sort out the more important national issues.

  6. hahahahahahaha! We mourn “with” Merdado? How can you with a dead person bosses? we normally morn with the family of the or departed soul. umusebanya!

  7. I just read 4 times of M.C Sata’s message; It just makes my heart bleed. I foresee suicides, because people wouldn’t want to witness such a catastrophic mistake. This is so painful to Guy Scott.

  8. Why can’t Sata write anything other than his title? Something like “MCS,the kind guy” or “your bro” .Writing “president” just shows where his values are as positions come and go but the type of person who we are lasts and makes a better impression.

  9. The man is the President, even a sneeze, a snarl or a yawn would make head lines in western societies. After all that’s where we copied the democracy from, albeit we are doing a bad job about it.

Even Mpezeni is doing so badly in his “kingship”. Is there anything we can do well?

    • busy fearing,if he advises he loses his job. they are all useless, the people that surround michael sata. they cant even say anything to the president kuyopa ati bazabaonelamo when they are fired for having an opinion.

  10. Fools we are morning and you bring fibola amalyashi ya bupuba you are very stupid and heartless.rest in peace cardinal mazombwe will mis u. If the president made a mistake in writing its common error in English.why laugh English in foreign language mwebantu

    • Foreign language yakuti? He has been speaking English for most of his life. Nakunkalako ku Mangalande bana nkalako so why should he be unable to write a simple sentence to convey the correct meaning? How many times in his life has he had to convey condolences to the departed for him to make such a blunder and you expect him to develop the country?
