Kabimba threatens to close Zambia Daily Mail

Embattled Justice Minister and Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has threatened to close the Zambia Daily Mail.

Mr Kabimba who is under mounting pressure from PF members to step down as PF Chief Executive officer is said to have turned the heat he is under on the newspaper’s editorial staff.

Information and Broadcasting services Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba told Qfm New in an exclusive interview that the level of harassment by Mr. Kabimba on the Daily Mail staff is unacceptable and should be condemned by all well meaning Zambians.

Mr. Mwamba said that he is saddened by Mr. Kabimba’s conduct which has gone to the extent of phoning him and individual reporters threatening them with dismissals over the stories they have been writing about him.

Mr. Mwamba stated that if Mr Kabimba has any complaint with him or the individual journalists he is threatening to dismiss at the Zambia Daily Mail he should go to the ministry of information and lodge a complaint.

The Permanent Secretary added that Mr. Kabimba should allow the ministry of information to operate professionally.

PF cadres accuse Mr Kabimba of being arrogant, promoting divisions, and losing touch with the party lower ranks.

    • How does a Party cadre close a govt institution? Daily mail has been in existence sine KK times. We used to buy this paper at Cold storage Board of Zambia.

  16. No MR KABIMBA MUST BE SUPPORTED HERE. You can’t have the indiscipline that is going on in government right now. The Zambia Daily Mail is being used in a fight they don’t know about and the new Managing Editor for ZDM should be very careful not to get involved in the internal politics – otherwise he will be left alone and suffer alone. The Vice-President has already said that it is not useful for the government newspapers to continue publishing damaging stories of ministers fighting each other…but the ZDM seems to have continued to do so. Why? Kabimba deserves to be treated fairly whatever wrongs he has done: DON’T do things to him and then blackmail him when he reacts. Kabimba is right, he has to fight his corner!

    • I equally agree with you. The story which appeared in the Daily Mail is GBM camp propaganda and Mwamba wants to call that professional? Kabimba has his own mistakes but this level of humiliation whereby even a mere PS Mwamba could answer him like this is too much. It appears Mwamba is becoming big headed. There is too much indiscipline in PF such that even kids are barking at their superiors.

      I pray that Sata keeps Kabimba and make some reshuffles so that we see what these evil plotters achieve. But Kabimba should learn lessons from this experience and make some changes in his life. Otherwise i sense a very strong spirit in him and can make a very strong President in the long run. Even Sata was like this no wonder he has confidence in Kabimba.

  17. Come on guys, read this carefully. It is not Kabimba who has said he would close the Zambia Daily Mail. This is just an allegation against him by another Mwamba. Choose carefully what to believe.

    • I agree with you on this point. Additionally, Emmanuel Mwamba and Geofrey Bwalya Mwamba may be related in a way, hence GBM’s fight is EM’s fight as well, GBM’s Enemy is EM’s enemy also, GBM’s intentions are equally EM’s, GBM’s region si EM’s region and finally the two share interests at very great levels.
      They lift and carry each other as brother’s ‘keepers’ because of having common enemy (Wynter) and common interest (Wynter’s down fall) and GBM’s ascendance to power.

    • Kabimba will not be fired. Mark these words. As for Lubinda, he is wasting his time. He is not bouncing back into PF. Nothing erodes confidence as treachery (leaking information to the enemy). Some PF members wanted to save Lubinda but it was too much on his part. Even evidence of his treachery was there. All the vacancies have been passing him and they will keep passing him. Lubinda wanted to frustrate the government he was serving. As for Kabimba, he has his own mistakes but he is stronger in character than Lubinda though his words don’t woo many masses. Aaron was good at words but weaker in character than Moses. No wonder Moses still became leader. Good Leadership is based on character. Not sweet talking.

    Mmembe, where do you run to now? ? For what we now know, neither you or Kabimba can blackmail Sata. You really have a lot to loose and end up serving time in jail.

    NOBODY IN PF will escape jail when the time comes. NOBODY is totally innocent. We know everything that has been going on. Even Sata himself is not innocent. Nobody in PF is clean enough to start pointing fingers at Kabimba. They should all listen to the wise words from Vice-President Guy Scott, otherwise 2016 kuya bebele. All Kabimba has been doing is fighting back. The whole gang from Luapula and Northern province went for his throat and when he started questioning why it is only Ministers from that region who were fighting him, the same gang turns around accusing him of mentioning tribalism in PF. Now the gang has moved to using Zambia Daily Mail instead of cadres, and the same gang still expects Kabimba not to fight back??? No! Kabimba is right!!!

  26. At the end of the day, all it comes down to is it depends on which side you support. I’m non-partisan myself who has been analysing these events unfold, and there is no doubt that Kabimba is being treated unfairly. If arrogance was a crime, GBM would have been the first one to be expelled from PF. So there is even no point in arguing about it because some people naturally will never support Kabimba whatever he does, as long as he is not from Northern province—- and that is not surprising anyway. But 2016 is coming. Some of us, despite supporting PF at the beginning, are tired of the nonsense and want a mature intelligent party with an active leader to come into power. Zambia deserves better than this stone-age child-play.

    • Kabimba and Mmembe started it all last year when they accused and told lies about GBM that he was contemplating to form a political party.They almost had Sata believe them where he Sata even queried GBM in Livingstone the new political party formation.

    • When I go to buy news paper automatically I buy post,but daily is making a lot more sense lately,the impartial and futbal reporting is proof of freedom of the press,mabimba please stay away from daily mail..sort out your issues with PF.

    If you have followed my blogs going back to 2009, you will notice that I have never been a PF Supporter. I have always expressed an independent view, critised RB and HH when they have made mistakes.

    That said, I agree with you. Most of these guys making noise against Kabimba have skeletons. This is the reason why Sata wants to make sure that whoever takes over must protect his interest and the family at large. So he sees that in GBM, judging by the current political landscape. Sata knows if he steps down, he will be hunted with endless corruption charges

    Kabimba has brought this on himself by failing to analyze political landscapes Why? He has allowed Mmembe to think for him. Mmembe is only doing this to protect his business empire. He knows he has nowhere to run to.

    • What maked you think MuMmembe is NOT CORRUPT? Mmembe saw among the guys in PF and wanted to use Wynter (whose a retard), so you continue seeing him as a clean guy, when in fact his not.

      One thing you need to understand is that the current crop of politicians are all from the same cloth. Laughed when someone told me R B was going to be Jailed. BOZA……

      MuMmembe is a VERY CORRUPT FELLOW, and his corruption will not only be exposed soon, but Jailed for it if he doesn’t behave.

  31. Who in this era reads the Zambia Daily Mail (ZDM) anyways? I stopped reading such propaganda cum photo albums many years ago. Daily Mail carried some serious story about a meeting between the SG and the District Commissioners. In this day and age surely there is no DC who could have recorded the SG’s address to them? In the abscence of an audio recording this is just hearsay which obviously is bound to annoy Mr. Kabimba and should be dismissed by all well meaning Zambians. But please do us favor close that ZDM and we shall not miss it. Chiluba and the late Penza promised us that there would be no sacred cows in the privatization excercise but did not privatize this useless piece of toilet paper which is mainly used to wrap goods at Soweto market.

  33. I ‘am against any government of the day controlling the public media because this equals propaganda. Any government of the day should not worry how they should disseminate news about themselves. If you are doing a good job as a government the results will speak for themselves i.e. we shall see the roads and money in our pockets, among others. The Nazis used such propaganda machinery to control ordinary Germans to feel so hapless and led to a rise to dangerous tentacles of nationalism – WWII. Govts do not like enlightened citizens because they can think critically or even after reading the govt propaganda they can evaluate it to see if it true or false. Now you see why the education sector does not get adequate funding so that when its time for voting all you can say is ‘inde bwana’.

  47. One of the reasons why Adolf Hilter lost WWII is because he was fighting a two-front war. You can never win against too many enemies. Kabimba needs serious counseling now. I find it strange to hear him refer to Mwamba as trying to please his pay-masters and cronies! Isn’t Mwamba a civil servant, whose pay-master is the govt to which Kabimba belongs? And who are the cronies he is refering to? Kambwili, GBM and the Bemba tribal clique perhaps?

    Did you just start blogging recently. Where did I say Mmembe is not corrupt. ( I put it that Mmembe is using Kabimba to protect his business empire, ” if ” he Kabimba was to take over from Sata )

    If you have followed through over the past 5 years, you would have noticed that I have called described Mmembe as a “False Prophet “and often exposed his, thieving and corrupt dirty games on LusakaTimes & ZambiaWatchdog, time after time.

    I ask you to search on Google the term: “Fred False Prophet Mmembe” and you will see comments I have made on his corrupt practices.
